Lyrical Conspiracy
[Or, Why All Songs are About CLAMP Works Until Proven Otherwise]

Lately I keep associating random songs with CLAMP stories. Does anyone else have this problem? I'll be listening to a mix tape, humming along innocently, and suddenly the revelation strikes that MY GOD, THIS SONG IS ABOUT KAMUI!!! [Backstreet Boys, "As Long as You Love Me." He's singing it to Fuuma. ^_^; No, I do not confess to actually having any BSB songs in my possession.] Actually, the X associations seem to be outweighing most others... although TB is a close runner up. [Repeat to self: "Livin' La Vida Loca" has NOTHING to do with Hokuto-chan. Nothing.]

I suppose this sort of dementia is exactly what leads to people writing song and video fics. And there are certain obvious connections, like X and "Forever Love." But what do you do when it goes beyond all reason? I mean, I am positive that not another soul in the world would manage to construe the Dixie Chicks' "If I Fall You're Going Down With Me" as a Subaru/Seishirou song, based mainly on the line "I never felt the earth move, honey, until you shook my tree." [Sakura, you see... ^_^;;;;] And Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" isn't like Sei-chan in the least, unless you're thinking about Nat-san's increasingly besotted version of him in "Sakura and Snow," in which case

And all my instincts, they return
The grand facade so soon will burn
Without a noise, and without my pride
I reach out from the inside...
In your eyes, the light, the heat [your eyes]
I am complete [your eyes]
I see the doorway [your eyes]
Of a thousand churches...

...suddenly seems utterly appropriate. Oh, and it's not only CLAMP. "Snowdrop," by L'arc en Ciel, is a Hisoka and Tsuzuki song. Whenever Hyde-kun sings "Irozuita toritachi no habataki ga--" I see shiki flying into the sky. x_x

I almost wish I were sufficiently inspired to write these notions into fics, and thereby get them out of my system. As it is, I'm stuck forever with Touya and Yuki riding their bikes to the Kome Kome Club's "Kimi ga Iru Dake De." But I suppose worse fates are possible. ^_^;
