Lita and I go way back. We went to the same high school until she was
transferred to Crossroads. We fought major wars with each other, both
verbal and physical. Our battles always ended in draws. Somewhere down the
line, a mutual respect developed and turned into extreme fondness for each
other. We decided to pool our talents together and fight for good; nameley
beating up bullies or individuals who threatened anybody. We didn't know it
then, but the most crucial step in our relationship was yet to come.

"Do you want to go for a walk with me?" Lita asked. Lita was the second
most beautiful girl in the world, at least to me. And luckily for me, she
was also my girlfriend.

"Sure. Where do you want to walk to?" I asked.

"Oh, anywhere. Let's just go!" and she pulled my right out the door behind
her. As we were walking along, I noticed somebody following us. I decided
not to tell Lita in case the person wasn't persuing us.

"Um, let's go down here, okay?" This way I could be sure if if that guy was
following us or not. We hid among some boxes and watched for him to pass
by. He didn't.

"Whew. That was a close one." Lita sighed. But I knew there was still
danger around so I motioned to Lita that we should head for home. As we
came out from behind the boxes, there were three guys and one end of the
alley and two at the other end. They were armed with boards and chains and
seemed to be waiting for someone. Finally, the person that was following
us appeared carrying a knife. They circled around us and I thought to
myself, "Gee, we're the two toughest teens in the city, both of whom are
sailor scouts. Why would anybody want to mess with us?" My thoughts were
interupted when I heard their leader threaten us wiht the knife; saying
he'd use it if we didn't give them what they wanted... money and Lita.

"Six against two. Three against one. My kind of odds. You wanna rumble,
pal? Let's do it!" Lita said defiantly. And so, the fight began. I kicked
one guy in the head and turned hime around, just in time for his friend to
punch him in the face. I then used my human sheild as a battering ram
against my two remaining "opponents". Lita was doing fine until the guy
with the knife came up behind her and, before I could stop him, slashed her
in the back. He could have killed her if he wanted to but he didn't. As I
delivered an Insgouri kick to the back of his head, Lita fell on the ground
paralysed by fear and loss of blood. The other gang members collected their
leader, and ran out of the alley. Lita had passed out and I carried her to
the nearest hospital.

The minutes seemed like hours as I waited for any doctor, working on Lita,
to give me some kind of report. In the meantime, I had called the other
Scouts and Darien and let them know what happened. Mina was the first to
arrive, followed by Serena and Darien and then Amy and Raye. I explained
to all of them that I hadn't got a report back from anybody on Lita's
condition. An hour later, after much pacing and sobbing on my part, a
doctor, who I knew was working on Lita's case, came out. We all flocked
around him and asked a million questions, but he simply quieted us and
started to speak.

"You'll be happy to know that her life is no longer in danger. However,
she did sustain a major shock to her system and, right now, she is still
unconcious. You can see her but one at a time." We all agreed that I should
de the first to see her. I went to her room, and went in. She was sitting
upright in bed, held there by a brace. This was to insure that the cut
wouldn't be infected. She was out like a light and her mouth was open just
a little, as if it was kissing something. I cried long and hard. Why
couldn't I have turned around a few seconds sooner? Why did I ever agree to
go on that walk? How could I have been so stupid?

It was about three in the morning whe I woke up to Mina's nudging. Serena
was with her. Lita was still out cold. Mina took me down the hall for
some coffee while Serena watched over Lita. We had gotten half-way down
the hall when I thought I heard Lita's voice.

"She's awake!" I said and ran back back to her room. What I saw was Lita
still out of it. I had only heard her voice in my head. Coffee time.

As Mina and I walked down the hall, we talked about what happened in detail.
I explained to her that it was all my fault; that I should have been there
to protect her. I started crying again and Mina soothed me with her soft
words.

"It wasn't your fault. Lita is a strong girl, you know that. She'll be
awake and back on her feet in no time." I really wanted to believe her,
but at the moment, I couldn't. My mind kept racing as to what I'd do if I
lost her forever, if she never woke up, if she was doomed to spend her life
in a coma stuck in that stupid brace.

After getting coffee for Mina, myself and a pop for Serena, we headed back
to Lita's room. No change. The nurse came in and said it was time to leave.
I asked Mina and Serena to go ahead, that I'd catch up with them. Serena
said I'd better catch up because I was her ride home and giggled. Mina knew
that I wanted some time alone with Lita, concious or not.

"Lita, I know you can hear me. You've gotta snap out of it you know. You
can't just leave me here, not like this. Please wake up." I leaned over
and kissed her full on the lips. Still no reponse. "Damn it aren't you
ever gonna wake up?!" I ran out of the room feeling sad and disgusted.

I caught up with Mina and Serena and we started on our way. Mina had said
that Raye was having a vigil at the temple and wanted to know if I was
planning to attend. I asked if she and Serena were going and she nodded.
I agreed to go with them.

At the temple, we were gathered in Raye's fire pit room. The fire was
burning along with several candles placed around the room. Darien and the
four other girls were sitting around the pit telling stories about old times.
I sat in the corner and listened while staring into the heart of a candle
that Raye gave me. I heard about the time they had met Lita, how Darien
tried to hurt her. He explained that he was under Negaverse influnce at
the time so he had no control over his actions. I heard about Lita's
passion for cooking. She was very good at it and I was lucky to get a free
sample now and then. I couldn't take much more of this reminiscing so I and
told the group that I was leaving. Raye begged me to stay but I said I just
couldn't.

I didn't know where I was going I wasn't going back to the hospital in case
Lita hadn't woke up yet. I kept driving until I realized that the safest
place for me to be was at home. I got home and crawled into bed but I
thought I wouldn't sleep. I kept thinking about the attack. What would
have happened had it been worse. I pictured Lita's funeral. She was placed
in a beautiful green coffin with the sign of Jupiter on it. She was dressed
in her Sailor Scout uniform. The rest of the Scouts wore black but I wore a
green tuxedo in her memory. I realized that I would spend my life alone
wandering the Earth as a lost soul, feeling completely empty inside.
Darien, Chad, Greg and I were the pallbearers as we lowered her into the
ground. It was just as I was about to throw the first handful of dirt on
her, that I woke up screaming.

I checked the clock. 8:55 AM. Good. I thought. I quickly showered, got
dressed and went to the hospital. I met up with the doctor who looked
really distressed.

"I'm not sure how I should say this... forgive me for being blunt but...
She's gone. We lost her last night."

"NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I woke up again. Thank God it was just
a dream within a dream. I checked the clock again. 4:37 PM. The phone
rang.

"H-h-hello?" It was Raye.

"Where have you been? I've been trying to call you all day!" she hissed.

"I've been through hell." I started and explained my weird dream to Raye.

"Hmmmm, very interesting. Well how's this for a cure for those nightmares?
Lita's awake! She woke up about two hours ago!"

I pinched myself. If this was a dream I wasn't going to be very pleased.
I pinched. It hurt! It wasn't a dream! Yes!

"I'm on my way!" I said to Raye as I hung up the phone and ran out the
door; almost breaking it down.

I think I broke every speed law in the books to get to that hospital. As I
ran in I caught sight of the four other Scouts, in regular form, =
Darien and the cats sitting in the waiting room.

"She told the doctor that she wanted to see you first before she saw any of
us." said Amy with perhaps a tiny bit of jealousy in her voice. I ran down
to Lita's room where I had been for seven hours the night before. There she
was; out of the brace and lying down with the the head propped up. We kissed
long and hard and held each other tight.

"Don't you ever do that again; scaring me like that!" I said jokingly. I
asked the doctor to get the the other girls and Darien. I could hear Serena
first. She was crying tears of happiness. Lita and I couldn't keep our
eyes off each other. We explained what happened to the other Scouts in
complete detail. Lita said that as two of the thugs were keeping her busy,
the other came up behind and got her.

"Why didn't you transform?" asked Artemis.

"Silly, because the thugs would have found out who two of the Sailor Scouts
are." Luna said matter-of-factly.

"Besides that," Lita replied "the rats were on us before we had time to
transform." We all laughed at that comment. The doctor came in and told
Lita that she should take it easy for a couple of days so that her back
would heal properly. She was very lucky that it was only a very deep cut.
Had the blade gone any deeper, it would have pierced her heart and killed
her. Serena thought about that and replied "Doctor, I think somebody else
has already pierced her heart" motioning to me. We all laughed again.

"If there isn't any further business, you're free to go, young lady" the
doctor said. We all waited outside for Lita to get dressed. As she came
out, the nurse had provided a wheelchair. I looked at the doctor, who
seemed to know what I was thinking, and then picked up myself.

"I don't think we'll be needing that today!" I said. Lita put her arms
around my neck and smiled. "Your coach awaits, my princess from Jupiter."
It felt good to hold Lita again. When we got back to her place, and the
others had left, we talked about how we missed each other while she was
out. We decided never to be apart then and there. We were going to be
together forever, till the end of time.

"Hell hath no fury, like this couple scorn'd."
