Wolverine is one of the most popular X-Men and for several good reasons. He's the only really good Canadian superhero, he's got a tragic past and is a nearly unstoppable berzerker in battle. He was a WWII hero who was teamed up temporarily with Captain America. After WWII ended, he was put into an organization that dubbed him Weapon X. He was poked, prodded, and studied in nearly every way. Much of his memories have been altered and his true age is unknown, but it is believed to be in the eighties range, but he has the body of a late twenties athlete. This slow aging process is due to his healing ability. During one of the tests, a metallic substance was bonded to his skeleton, rendering his bones virtually indestructable. He went berzerk and destroyed the lab, killing everyone there. He fled into the Canadian Wilderness and eventually came across Alpha Flight. They gave him a purpose, to use his powers to defend freedom. Unfortunately, he came to realize that certain factions of the government meant to help him also wanted to learn how to replicate his invincible skeleton, so he left Alpha Flight to join the X-Men. When he met Xavier, he had a lot of anger and mistrust, now though, his anger has begun to subside and he has slowly learned to trust. He is jealous of Cyclops because he is also in love with Jean Grey, but has rarely acted upon that jealousy. Time will tell if this beast of a man can truly overcome his vicious nature, but the X-Men, especially Jubilee, remain hopeful that he will.
