NAME: Johnny C.; but is affectionately called "Nny" (pronouced "knee") by his few friends
SERIES: "Johnny The Homicidal Maniac"; an American comic by Jhonen Vasquez- and one of the only U.S. comics that consists of more than half-naked, huge breasted femmes- and testosterone drenched neandrathal (is that spelled right?) superhero men...
SERIES DESCRIPTION: A volatile goth boy delivers extremely slow and excruciatingly
painful justice to the deserving ones who trivially wrong him (looking at him funny or laughing at him is grounds for
household
appliance electrocution under the cavernous floorboards of his house, only to be fed to a blood drinking wall),
all while trying to find out who he is and why he is doing all of the horrible things he is doing. I don't think I'd be too far off in
saying one of his only REAL friends is Todd, the neglected, schizophrenic mistake (his dad 'hasn't smiled once since he was born') of a
neighbor boy- and one of the only aquaintances that hasn't been killed yet, referred to by Johnny as "Squee". Among the IMAGINARY friends is Nail Bunny, the voice of reason. He was fed once and nailed to a wall, and that was three years ago. By now, he is a floating disembodied head. And a Big Boy-type thing encouraging Johnny to be more than a cold, heartless robot. Also, are the two grotesquely painted doughboys,
always encouraging 'Nny to kill himself. However, whether he should do it alone or taking out everyone else in his wake is the eternal question.
INSIGHTS: Johnny is the archtypical Shadow, symbolizing everything we wish we could do, but either
society has pushed itself and its views on, or we just never had the balls to do ourselves. He is not afraid to punish the deserving when any sane
person would go home and cry. As a fellow nonconformist, I know all too well the humiliation of ridicule, and sometimes I would like nothing more than
to hook people up to elaborate torture devices until they slowly waste away, but, alas, my only means of escape is to sink into the
world of Johnny and laugh until I die at others' pain. Nny is everything our negative sides cater to, and if we don't let it, he'll escape and all of the
snotty slackers down at the Kava House will be bathed in blood and cappuchino. And on a last note, I know Johnny's not an anime/manga man, but he's just
too endearing a character to ignore!
RECOMMENDED READING:JTHM: Director's Cut. A very good graphic novel, if you are unaquainted with Johnny. However, it costs twenty bucks (Slave Labor Graphics is ripping us off- most graphic novels are only about fourteen), and it does not have any great Meanwhile thingies in it (although it does have Happy Noodle Boy and Ann Gwish, hee hee hee)-- but it is still good if you can't get the individual comic books, are just getting into it, or have a habit of mangling flimsy thirty page paper books. Also has extra pages of early Johnny skits from Jhonen Vasquez' high school years. DOES THE FUN NEVER END?!?!
LINKS: None up yet, for I haven't found a good JTHM site yet. That's not saying that this simple shrine is a SuperPage or anything like that, but I'm very picky with my links. If anybody knows of one, or has one, just type in the URL and a banner (if you have one), and this page won't suck as bad. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
