The Night After - Series - Akane

By Lord Archive

Note: ( ) denotes what Akane is thinking, and is not said.

It is late at night and Akane stood in front of her bedroom window
looking into the night's sky. She was deep in thought over the events of
the past few days.

(Damn it! I was so close to marrying that baka. If only, I hadn't told
him about the Nannichaun. If only, he just stayed with me rather than
going after it. If only, Nabiki hadn't invited so many people. If only,
my rivals accepted defeat.) She cracked her window sill with her bare
hands.

She sighed, (There are just too many 'if only' for the wedding to
actually happen. But it was worth a shot. It certainly surprised Dad,
that when I found out about his plan to get us married, I asked if I
could help.)

Akane flicked a piece of the window sill away. (That trip to China made
me realize two things. First that he loves me, even if he still can't
admit it. He almost admitted it at Jusendo, but Ryoga interrupted. Maybe
if, I had played dead, he would've been able to say it. The second, life
is too short to let his problems sort themselves out, especially at the
rate they're going I'll die of old age first. Nearly dying twice has a
way of putting one's life in perspective.)

She sighed, (At least the baka admitted later he wanted to get married...)

-------

In the Tendo dinning room shortly after Soun has called off the wedding
due to damages to the house and dojo.

The Tendos and Saotomes were recuperating from the day's hectic events,
except for Ranma and Akane, who, of course, were fighting.

"Ranma this is all your fault!" howled Akane for the umpteenth time since
the announcement that the wedding had been called off.

"If you told me about the Nannichuan earlier I would have been in a
better position to stop this mess," bellowed Ranma in reply.

"It was all of your fiancees that crashed the wedding!"

"Like it was my idea to invite them! I had nothing to do with that!"

"You keep stringing them along! You should have given them their walking
papers a long time ago!"

Before Ranma could howl his reply to Akane's last statement, Nabiki
interrupted by commenting, "The way you two are fighting, one would think
you wanted to get married."

"Yeah, so what's your point Nabiki?" Ranma said while glaring at Nabiki,
before he really considering his reply.

Akane blinked. (He wanted to marry me!?)

"Ra-Ra-Ranma, do you really mean it? Did you really want to marry me?"
Akane asked, shocked.

"Do you think I would say that, if I didn't mean it?" Ranma replied,
defensively. He started to look very uncomfortable before he said, "I'm
tired, I'm going to bed." Ranma got up and left.

(He didn't deny it... He really want to marry me.) Akane looked up as he
made his way to his room. "Ranma," she called, meekly.

----------

(Now the problem isn't two reluctant fiancees, but with suitors that
won't let us go. I just hope that they listened to what I told them
yesterday...)

----------

"Tendo Akane, we must be wed," Kuno said before Akane's foot met his
face.

"My young bride," Happosai laughed, while holding onto her wedding dress.

"Let me make this absolutely clear to you. I DON'T LOVE YOU! I don't want
to marry you, ever! Just stay out of my life!" Akane screamed before
sending Kuno into upper Earth orbit. She then pounded Happosai into the
floor. (Honestly, those two will never learn.)

Akane then looked over at Ukyou and Shampoo. They were trying to wake up
a comatose Ranma. "What do you think your doing?"

"Try to wake airen, so Ranma can marry Shampoo," Shampoo replied.

"Oh no. If Ranma marries anyone, it'll be me," Ukyou retorted.

(Control yourself. These two would love a chance to kill you in a 'fair
fight' that you started,) her mind warned herself. Akane screamed angrily,
"Do you honestly think he'll want to marry either of you for what you've
done? You attacked him!"

"Is necessary to stop wedding Ranma no want," Shampoo answered.

"Are you sure he didn't want to marry me? Have you asked him? Did it ever
occur to you he might want to marry me over either of you?" Akane yelled.

"Ranchan doesn't want to marry you. He fights with you all the time, you
hit him for things that aren't his fault, and you never listen!"

"At least I don't live in a fantasy world where he can do no wrong,"
Akane retorted.

Akane then blinked as she noticed Ranma had disappeared. (Ranma, where
are you? Please tell me you didn't...)

"Th-the wedding is called off," Soun cried in sorrow.

(...run away.) The life drained from Akane's face. (No... My wedding...
but, they stopped it... Ranma, why... why couldn't you save our wedding?
WHY DID YOU RUN AWAY?!) She then screamed a bestial yell as she stormed
out of the decimated dojo, with tears in her eyes.

-----------

(Now we just have to come up with a plan that will let us get married
without his fiancees trying to stop. Of course it not going to be easy,
they are the most stubborn group of people I ever met. Now if only...)

Akane's thoughts were interrupted as her gaze of the night sky was
momentarily block by Ranma as he flipped down from the roof. "A-Akane,"
he stuttered as his feet lost hold and he fell off the roof. He
instinctively reached out and grabbed the window ledge. He started to
pull himself up.

"What do you think you're doing?" Akane asked in a voice confused at
being delighted or angry at seeing him.

"It's just that I wanted to see if you're awake. I, ah, wanted to talk to
you about some stuff."

"Start talking."

"Um, Akane, well, er... I... Can I come in first?" Ranma began nervously.

"You're not going to try to do anything perverted? Are you?" She mentally
slapped herself, (What am I saying?! We're supposed to be on our
honeymoon.)

"No... No, all I want to do is talk. Okay?"

(I don't have to make it easy for him, tough.)

"All right, but one false move and you go flying," she said as she helped
him inside.

Once he was inside she asked, "So, what did you want to talk about?"

"I, ah, I just wanted to say, I-I-I'm sorry," he finally said as he sat
down on Akane's bed.

(Just, I'm sorry.)

"Sorry about what?" she asked, disappointed, as she sat down on the other
side of her bed.

"Sorry for hurting you, by stringing along my other fiancees. I should
have told them a while ago that I didn't want to marry them."

"Well, we can fix that situation now. Can't we?" she nervously said.

"Sure... sure we can," he said smiling.

"Are you sorry you didn't marry me yesterday?" She looked at him with a
smile. (Saying no is a false move.)

"Um, y-yes," he replied. He sighed deeply, "Akane, I-I-I'm also sorry
about lying to you yesterday."

"What did you say was a lie?" She stared deeply into his eyes. (He's
going to say it. He's going to say it!)

"Um, when you, well, you know... said that I-I l-lo-love you, and I, um,
denied it," he said as he looked into her large, tear filled eyes.

"D-does that mean y-you l-love me?" she asked nervously.

"Y-y-yes, I-I-I d-do. I-I d-do l-l-lo-love y-you."

Her heart melted. (He said it. The baka actually said he loves me! Not
Shampoo, not Ukyou, ME!)

Akane finally replied, "Ra-Ra-Ranma, you have no idea how long I waited
for you to say that. I-I love you too."

She immediately embraced Ranma, who quickly returned the hug. He broke
the embrace first.

(Why did he stop?) She backed away, confused. (Oh!) She smiled as he
leaned toward her. He kissed her and went into another embrace, one
that neither of them wanted to end anytime soon.

Author's note:
If case you haven't guess this story takes place the night after the end
of the Manga series.

Thanks to Adam M Noonchester for giving me some suggestions.

This is the first draft of this fic. This is the sequel to my first
fan-fic The Night After - Ranma. If I make sequels to this fic, I will do
each from a different character's point of view about the events from the
end of Manga. If I get around to making more sequels, the next one will be
Nabiki's, Ukyou's or Ryoga's reflections of how the Manga ended.

Legal babble: Ranma 1/2 and all characters involved belong to Rumiko
Takahashi, Viz Video, ect... I am just borrowing the characters, I will
give them back. (Well maybe not Ukyou ;)

Please give me C&C or even a MSTing of this story. If you wish to reply
in private mail contact me at archive@mich.com
