"You mean you want to help some guy who you've never met before because he asked? Jessie that doesn't make any sense." Michael said as he stared at his twin wondering if she had dreamt it all.
"Michael. I owe it to him. He did save me from that gang. If he hadn't I'd probably be in a real fix. Who knows what they had in mind for me? Any way, what he had said about Maken and the Dragons and especially about Prince Ryan seems real. Something in me says that it is real and not some made up story." Jessica said to her twin who had not believed one word of her story. He had said she had dreamt it all. So Jessica had spent the last five hours trying to make her annoying twin understand that what she had seen and heard was not a dream. She had the bump on her head to prove it.
"Jessica what you have said makes no sense. If the Goblin King really was in the park why didn't I see him? You were standing in the middle of a large clearing. If he had left just as I had arrived then wouldn't I have seen him leave?" He asked thinking she would not have an answer to that question.
"Just before you appeared he disappeared."
"How? Into thin air?"
"Yes. It was as if he faded. He became transparent then he wasn't there at all."
"Magic?"
"Yes. I would call it that."
"My sister is crazy. You're crazy you know that?"
"Yes, I do." With that she turned on her heel and left her twin's room. She knew that if she had stayed there any longer she would literally ring her bothersome twin's neck. Michael was always stubborn and hard to convince. Moreover, Jessica knew that the only way to convince her twin that the Goblin King was real, he would have to actually see him for himself.
'Why does he always have to be like this? Why cannot he ever believe a word I say?' Jessica thought to herself as she opened her bedroom door. After hours of arguing with her twin, she was exhausted.
As Jessica slipped off her boots, a white owl perch itself in Jessica's tree. It sat there and watched her as she put her boots in the closet and turned out the lights. She then lay on top of her comforter and closed her eyes.
As Jessica lay there, she knew she needed to repay the Goblin King for saving her life from the gang that had attacked her. She wanted to, with or without her twin's help.
Outside the owl watched Jessica, as she seemed to drift off to sleep. Then a few minutes later she abruptly sat up in bed shocking the owl. 'She must have had a nightmare,' it thought to itself.
Jessica sat up in bed wondering why she felt like she was being watched. She scanned the room trying to find the intruder. She then got out of bed and started to check every corner and behind everything. This behavior puzzled the owl.
'Nothing here. Then why does it still feel like I'm being watched?'
Jessica stood still with her back to the window. She concentrated on where the eyes where coming from. Then she felt them.
'Behind me! Outside the window!' Jessica thought abruptly as she spun around to find a pair of owl eyes watching her.
When Jessica had spun around it had caught the owl off guard and that caused her to trap him in eye contact.
"An owl?" Jessica said allowed as she walked up to the window not taking her eyes off the owls.
'Great how am I to get out of this one? How can one girl trap me like this?' the owl thought as Jessica opened the window.
She leaned on the windowsill and watched the owl that seemed to just sit there. She noticed that the bird was unusually large for a barn owl and very beautiful.
With a smile she asked the owl a question, "Now where are you from? Hmmm? You're the prettiest barn owl that I've ever seen."
The owl cocked its head to one side as if pondering her question. In addition, at her praise of him he puffed out his feathers in agreement. 'I've gotten a little wrapped up in this,' it thought as Jessica's smile broadened at his actions.
Then a knocking at her door distracted Jessica's attention.
"Come in."
"Jessie? I was just wondering . . . uh why is the light off?" Michael asked as he entered Jessica's bedroom.
"I was going to take a nap when I saw an owl outside my window."
"Ya. Anyway I was wondering if you have decided not to help that guy."
Jessica gave her twin a serious look and said, "No I have not changed my mind. He helped me and I intend to repay him."
"Thought so. Well I'm going with you just in case anything happens. I don't want you getting hurt." Michael said as he crossed his arms with a pout on his face.
"I knew you'd help!" she cried as she threw her arms around her twin's neck.
The next day, Jessica was in her bedroom sitting on her window seat looking out the window at the garden below. She was still skeptical about the whole thing concerning the Goblin King, but if he did indeed need her help then she would help him. She owed him that much for saving her life.
At ten to five, both Jessica and Michael left their Aunt and Uncle's house heading to the park to meet with the Goblin King.
"Three to five," Michael said checking his watch. "You did say that he'll be here at five right?"
"Yes. We have three minutes to wait till he gets here," Jessica said to her twin who still didn't believe her.
Just as Michael's watch turned five, a breeze picked up and in front of the twins appeared the Goblin King. He walked up to the twins and smiled saying, "You're on time I see. And you've brought your brother as well. So I take it you've come to a decision."
Nodding her head Jessica said, "Yes we'll help you."
"Then if there is nothing else we can leave," the Goblin King said as he conjured up a crystal ball, which started to glow. Then everything started to spin.
When Jareth had appeared Michael was down right shocked. He had not thought it was possible for a person to appear out of thin air. He started to question his doubts about what Jessica had told him last night. Then when the crystal appeared in the Goblin King's hand Michael just stared at the crystal ball.
When everything finally stopped spinning the twins found themselves in the throne room of the Goblin Castle. The throne room was mostly furnished in gray. A pit in front of the throne was empty of its occupants at the moment, but blankets and small pillows suggested that goblins slept there. Small windows were located around the room, which provided the majority of the light within the throne room.
In one corner was a stair well leading out of the throne room and almost directly across from the stair well was another stair well that lead up. It was cornered off so one could not see what was up there unless one actually walked up the stairs.
The throne it self was large. It was formed in a half circle that curled at the ends in front, something like a pair of mammoth tusks joined at the base which made the back of the throne. Dark gray curtains hung from brass rings were attached to the arms and back of the throne. The curtain hung around the throne like a cloak that draped over the three steps that lead up to the throne itself. Above the throne was the royal crown that served as a nest for a pair of vultures.
Before a word was said, Jason and Shinwa came into the throne room to greet the twins.
"Jessica, Michael this is Jason and Shinwa. Jason, Shinwa this is Jessica and Michael Syrin," Jareth said introducing the four.
"Ah it is good to finally meet you both," Shinwa said as he shook the twins' hands. Jason did like wise.
"Your Majesty! Your Majesty!" a goblin guard cried as he ran on to the throne room, "Your Majesty! Maken is at the gates with his army ready to attack!"
Then came the thunderous roar of Dragons.
