During 3 hours in the middle of August it went from a 2ft tall shrub in a one gallon nursery can, to a 1ft tall pre-bonsai, in a bonsai pot, and survived! The heavy wires are to keep it secure in the pot after I cut off most of the roots. The light wires are to guy-wire down the branches which I first broke to stop it from returning to it's old shape. Next year it will be pruned and shaped. It will spend the winter outside in the Chicago area, sitting in a shallow trench, healed in with leaves.
