Sylia Stingray--
The Enigma of Bubblegum Crisis

"Sylia... Sylia Stingray..."
"How do you know my name..?"
"I know... that you and I are two of a kind..."

    Enigma.  Mystery.  Conundrum.  Riddle.  Puzzle.

At the base of Sylia Stingray is one and all of these things.  Nothing about her is concrete; most is easily debatable by looking into contradictory evidence throughout the series.  Her few moments of showing emotion are clouded by her perplexing nature that is so nearly impossible to decipher that is detracts from what Sylia says.  When she speaks she is given respect by her fellow Knight Sabers.  Sylia displays a wisdom uncommon among women of her youthful age.  She has knowledge far beyond her years, form technical to social to emotional.
Sylia is linked to many incidents that come back to haunt her in her adulthood.  Upon the death of Doctor Katsuhito Stingray, the father of the Cyberdroids and Sylia, Sylia received the mysterious Data Unit containing information about things she had never imagined.  The images of a blood lust and homicide tainted her young mind and she was left with views that humanity was decaying before her eyes.  The state of mankind and, ultimately, the Cyberdroids lay in the hands of a twelve year old girl when only she knew the truth.  A single person could battle Genom.
    Or was that true?
One of the questions that stems from Sylia and her interactions with the Cyberdroids, computers, and Mason/Largo leaves some to believe that Sylia is not human at all, but rather something else entirely.  Was she augmented before her father's death?  Did she have herself changed into something superior to mankind in order to further her already vast abilities?  Was she never a human, but began as another creature, possibly a Cyberdroid?  Or is there even a true answer to this question without bringing in more questions?
The truth, however perverse it may sound, is that Sylia shares many qualities with the Sexaroids from Moonlight Rambler and Red Eyes.  She can show emotions to their fullest extent, although this happens very seldom.  Her intelligence surpasses what they were capable of but another sort of augmentation is not out of the question.  She is beautiful and persuasive in ways that the Sexaroids were, and very stylish.  Her manner was endlessly distant, unlike that of the Sexaroids, but if Sylia were manufactured for a purpose, would emotions not get in the way of her success?
There are also traits that are shared between Sylia and her nemesis, Mason/Largo.  The two men, which were the same, both obsessed over Sylia for many reasons.  From physical attractiveness which Largo is in brief awe of during their last battle, to mental abilities that shame the greatest minds that Genom and other conglomerates have to offer, Sylia has much to offer him.  All of it was what Largo wanted, but her resistance was something that he could not overcome.
The only beings who matched Sylia in manipulative genius were Mason/Largo and Quincy, the Chairman of Genom.  Quincy hardly batted on eye at the appearance of the Knight Sabers, but Mason became intrigued by their presence and developed an obsession with proving that Sylia was the one behind the formidable white armor.  In time, as Mason claimed later to Sylia, this interest became a love, aleit a tragic and unfortunate one that led to his demise at her hands.
Few will deny that Sylia is superhuman is many ways that are difficult to comprehend.  Her prowess on the battlefied is yet another example.  She is all but cavalier in challenging foes which are far larger than herself in more ways than one.  For all the times that she should have died, one must wonder why she did not.
The end result of contemplating Sylia is that no one can claim to know what she is.  Extensive proof might be offered in any direction but it is never hard enough evidence for someone, and the controversy goes on.
