We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt
dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were
loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel
with the foe:
To you from failing
hands we throw
The torch; be
yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith
with us who die
We shall not
sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields."
--John McCrae.
This poem was written by John McCrae, a doctor in the Canadian Armed Forces, in 1915. He died in 1918 while on active duty, but his words remain a symbol of Remembrance Day even now. Remembrance Day, November 11, commemorates the end of WWI and the sacrifices of Canadians who died in WWI, WWII, and the Korean War. For more info, check out these links:
Hmmm...let me apologize again for being so slow to work on this page...I added a few (very few!) links in October, but that was all I had time for, because I'm still in the middle of midterms. Actually, my last one is this Thursday...and then I have a whole two weeks until finals start!! YAY!!! Needless to say, I'm just a wee bit stressed right now. ^_^ But then, that's life, right? At university, anyways!
Oh, yay!! I just realized it's Monday, and that means ANIME NIGHT!! Since the semester started I've been a member of the U of L Japanese Anime & Manga Society (ULJAMS), so I get to watch anime every week (what fun!!). You can check out our club webpage here...or to take a look at pages on some of my new faves, check out the pics below!! Um...October's SJS is in the archive, and bye for now!!
