Thank you for your vision and your great example
an ongoing Legacy...
Kappa Phi Lambda was founded on March 9, 1995 at Binghamton University by our seven founding mothers.
The need for a sorority which would provide inspiration and education for its surrounding
campus seemed neccessary, and thus, Kappa Phi Lambda was born. These seven women envisioned
themselves laying the cornerstones of what was to become a revolutionary organization. This sorority, which was
to be cultural in nature, would gather women together and teach them to find their own voices. These women,
united by the bonds of sisterhood and vision, strive to educate eachother about their various Asian heritages.
They teach eachother about strength, and learn their true identities in the process. Sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda reach out to the
community through charitable works, and in this way, teach others
about the beauty and complexity of Pan-Asian culture. Kappa Phi Lambda formed to provide
the campus, and on a large scale, the society, with yet another option for learning, and another
outlet for activity.
Three years after these women established Kappa Phi Lambda, the sorority has grown past the boundaries
of Binghamton University. What had been only the brainchild of seven exceptional women, had soon became the
tradition and inspiration of nearly one hundred in only its three year infancy. Relatively young for a Greek organization,
Kappa Phi Lambda has evolved to include SUNY Buffalo, New York University, St. John's University, SUNY Stonybrook
and Syracuse University, and is presently involved in teaching still more potential sisters elsewhere. Our goal as
an institution is to become national, and to spread this vision and share our experiences
with other exceptional women everywhere.
