Biography: Emeraldas, a central character in Leiji Matsumoto's Captain Harlock mythos, is a tragic figure destined to wander eternally though space. She appears in the animated series Endless Orbit SSX and Galaxy Express 999. She also appears in the films Arcadia of My Youth, Galaxy Express 999 and Adieu Galaxy Express 999. She is also the star of her own TV special entitled Eternal Voyager Emeraldas. In her last animated appearance she is seen aiding humanity in its struggle against the Machine Empire.

- Emeraldas' only love is the master engineer Tochiro. She and Tochiro have a child named Mayu. In Matsumoto's story, Tochiro passes away, leaving Emeraldas forever lonley.
- Emeraldas is the sister of Mater, the princess of the Machine Empire in Galaxy Express 999.

- It is not clear but it is likely that Emeraldas' birth place is a planet called La Metal and that her mother is Queen Prometheum, the ruler of the Machine Empire.
- Emeraldas' primary weapon is a combination of a rapier and a blaster which can fire a laser from the tip. She also possesses one of the laser pistols designed by master engineer Tochiro. There are only 4 of these weapons in existance and they are the most powerful handguns in Matsumoto's universe.
- Emeraldas' ship is called the Queen Emeraldas.
- The Queen Emeraldas consists of 2 parts. A large metal superstructure is the larger part of the ship, to which a small, 17th century wooden warship is grafted. The smaller part acts as Emeraldas' command post. It is also the location of the ship's main weapon batteries - lasers which fire broadside from the antique cannon hatches.
