On Yakiniku (some sort of Japanese BBQ beef cuisine)
Ever since the little yakiniku talk in "Love Love Aishiteru" (please refer to Tsuyo chan's page for details), it is a well known fact that Tsuyo chan every now and then goes to yakiniku restaurant all alone in the middle of the night cos he loves yakiniku so much but often finds it difficult to find someone to go with him as he usually goes there after work which is often very late at night.
Tsuyoshi: It's better not to go to yakiniku restaurant alone cos it's embarrassing if you bump into someone you know there.
Kouichi: You once bumped into someone there?
Tsuyoshi: Yep, bumped into a very well known celebrity. I said, "Good morning" to him.
Kouichi: (smiling)
Tsuyoshi: I got my meal paid for though...
Kouichi: How many people was he with?
Tsuyoshi: There were three of them. He said, "Having yakiniku all alone? You could have asked your manager or someone to come with you...." It was kind of lonely, but I got my meal paid for.
Kouichi: Ah..
Tsuyoshi: When people see that you are all alone, they feel sorry for you. So going there alone can mean getting treats, e.g. a dish of salad, etc. Next time, can someone please buy me the beef as well...
Kouichi: These are Tsuyoshi's last words.
Tsuyoshi: Last words? I am not dying...
Kouichi: Going for yakiniku and you might get something paid for.
Tsuyoshi: Yes, maybe a bubble gum or two. (laughs)

On their happiest times
Tsuyoshi: Taking a bath, sleeping, playing my guitar
Kouichi: It's great just to be alive.
Tsuyoshi: That's a nice saying. It is probably in the dictionary.
Kouichi: No, it's not in the dictionary..

On weight
Tsuyoshi: (reading out a letter from a listener) "According to Kou chan's profile, his weight was 49kg. So I worked hard on not getting heavier than Kou chan. Then, recently, in Love Love Aishiteru, Kou chan said that his weight was about 54 kg. So I ended up having some green tea ice-cream and that was nice."
Kouichi: But if a girl is shorter than me and is about 50kg in weight, that's pretty heavy.
Tsuyoshi: Now a lot of girls are getting worried now. (smiles)
Kouichi: Yeah, I think so too. (smiles)
Tsuyoshi: Girls always worry about their weight.
Kouichi: I think sometimes they worry too much. If they get too thin, they will look unhealthy. So, it's better to stay healthy.
Tsuyoshi: Yes, that's true.

On accommodation
Tsuyoshi: Talking about accommodation. Kouichi is rather particular. I remember in those days when we lived in the hall of residence of Johnny's, Kouichi always insisted on doing the cleaning of his room by himself.
Kouichi: That's because I hate feeling uncomfortable in my own accommodation. I don't like relying on others to tidy up the room for me. When moving houses, some people rely entirely on the movers; for me, that is a "no, no". Even if I ask someone to help me, I have to be there when they do it. Otherwise, I will feel as though someone has entered my territory.
Tsuyoshi: Um, I understand that.
Kouichi: Tsuyoshi, what type of apartments do you like?
Tsuyoshi: I now want a window in my bathroom. When I take a bath in the afternon, it will be great to have some natural lighting. I usually take very long baths. In terms of rooms, I prefer Western type rooms. The wallpaper used in Japanese style rooms makes me feel depressed. It will be great if that can changed.
Kouichi: Um, I like rooms that don't look lived in. I like rooms that are so tidy that it looks as though nobody lives there.

An unforgettable scene for the Webmaster
This is a scene from a rather old programme called "Soreike Kinki Daihousou". In this programme, Kinki go out with different celebrities to try out new sports or cuisine around Japan. In this episode, Kinki go to the seafood market in Sapporo with a celebrity Umemiya who is rather well-known among the people in Sapporo. Back then Kinki Kids still had not issued their CDs yet. Walking down the market,
Umemiya: (waving to the people at the stores) Hi, this are Kinki Kids.
Old lady at the store: Kinki Kids?
Tsuyoshi: (walking behing Umemiya) Good afternoon
Old lady: Good afternoon
Kouichi: (walking behind Tsuyoshi) Good afternoon
Old lady: Hey, there is such a good-looking guy in this world!? (rubbing Kouichi's face with her hands)
Kouichi: ..... (nodding and smiling shyly, trying very hard to follow Tsuyoshi)
Old lady: Come here! Come here! (grabbing Kouichi by his right arm, drags him into her store)
Kouichi: ........
Tsuyoshi: (turning back and notices that his partner has suddenly disappeared, walks back)
Tsuyoshi: (grabbing Kouichi by his left arm whilst the old lady is holding onto Kouichi's right arm) Excuse me, we cannot get on with our work without my partner.. (drags Kouichi out of the store)
Kouichi: That was close.... (looking relieved)

On sleeping
Tsuyoshi: The sleeping faces of Johnny's talents are surprisingly good-looking. We all sleep in a normal way. Sometimes, people tell me that I sleep with my eyes open. Sano kun (Johnny's Junior) once said, "Hey, you were looking at me!"
Kouichi: I look as though I were angry (when I am asleep).
Tsuyoshi: Yes, you sometimes squeeze your eyebrows together making a few folds between your eyebrows.
Kouichi: Recently, I tried to wake Nagase (Tokio) up. When I did that, I was told, "What!!! Quiet!!!" That was a bit of a shock to me.
Tsuyoshi: (laughing) Really, Naga chan doesn't like getting up. Even when he is pinched on the bottoms, he will still fall asleep again real fast.
Kouichi: I don't like having my sleeping face seen by others.
Tsuyoshi: Yes, that's true. Except being seen by The One In My Life.

On the way they treat other people
(Popolo magazine did a psychology test with them.)
Question: If you are about to move out into a mansion, there are 4 vacant apartments available: immediately on top of, immediately below, to the right of and to the left of the apartment of the manager of the mansion. Which one will you choose?
The mansion symbolises human relationship and this is a test on the way they treat others.
Kouichi: The one immediately above. Analysis: You are very strong-willed and want to be on top of others very often. You want others to follow your way. You have a way in motivating others but you might also have a lot of enemies.
Kouichi: Thought that this would be the analysis. But it's kind of accurate. I do sometimes want others to follow my way, but there are also times when I have been made to follow others.
Tsuyoshi: The one immediately below
Analysis: You feel a bit insecure and keep wondering if someone will look after you. Is it because of your lack of confidence or because there are strong-willed people around you? But the way you suppress yourself and depend on others is also kind of attractive.
Tsuyoshi: Lacking confidence? (smiles) It's accurate. Although when I made my choice, I just thought that the apartment immediately below will cause the least inconvenience to the manager.

On having the word "Kids" in their group name
Tonight's guest is Shonentai, whose name if translated means "a group of young guys".
Kouichi: We are called "Kinki Kids", so it implies that we are kids. That's the same case with "Shonentai". Do you intend to stay as "Shonentai"?
Higashiyama (Shonentai): Yes, we do, forever. Overseas, there are similar cases, such as the "Beach Boys".
Kouichi: In some cases, people just take away the bit that implies "kids" or "youngsters".
Nishikiyo (Shonentai): Hey, if you take away "shonen", we will be just "tai"! (N.B.: "Tai" can also mean a type of fish in Japanese.)
Kouichi: If we take away "kids", we will be just "kinki". That will make all 5 of us fishes... (N.B.: Kinki can also mean a type of fish in Japanese.)
Nishikiyo:.... (shakes hands with Kouichi)
(Love Love Aishiteru Date: forgotten)

On "Kinki Kids"
Trying to explain their name, "Kinki Kids"
Tsuyoshi:Our group name is "Kinki Kids", because we come from the Kinki area. But it is sometimes mistaken as meaning "Kinky kids".
Kouichi: Oh, yes, our name spells like it: "K", "I","K", "I"
Tsuyoshi: Oi, that makes us "Kiki Kids"!!!
Kouichi: .... (looking shy, smiling with his mouth slightly open.)
(Love Love Aishiteru Date: forgotten)

On drinking
Today's guest is Kondo Masahiko and Kinki were not adults yet and were not supposed to drink due to the laws in Japan.
Kondo: You are not supposed to drink beer, right? Have you drunk any beer?
Tsuyoshi and Kouichi: No, no!
Kondo: Really haven't drunk any beer? (hitting lightly on Kouichi's chest who is sitting right next to him)
Kouichi: Um, that's um..... (smiling shyly and meaningfully)
Kondo: Ahaaa (laughs)
Kondo:If, IF, you drink beer and get drunk, how do you look when you are drunk?
Kouichi: If I drink beer, I mean IF! (looking really nervous)
Kouichi: If I drink beer and get drunk, while the people around me will be drunk and getting loud, I will just sit there looking really cool, drinking my beer.
Audience: E????(not believing that's the truth)
Kouichi: (turning to Tsuyoshi right next to him) That's the truth, that's how I will look if I get drunk, right?
Tsuyoshi: ...... (smiling meaningfully)
(Love Love Aishiteru Date: forgotten)

On mayonnaise
Today, Fujisaki Nanako talked about how her boyfriend used to apply mayonnaise on bread and then toast it.
Kouichi: Toasted mayonnaise????
Tsuyoshi: Ah, is it with tuna and mayonnaise?
Nanako: Yes.
Kouichi:Just mayonnaise is ok, but when mayonnaise is cooked, it is disgusting..
Tsuyoshi:What about the mayonnaise on the top of pizza?
Kouichi: That tastes GOOD!!!
Tsuyoshi: I don't understand the idols of nowadays....
(Gyu to Dakishimetai Date unknown)

On Tsuyoshi's dream of becoming a comedian
Shimura Ken (a famous comedian) is the guest of the night and he's Tsuyoshi's favourite comedian.
Tsuyoshi: When I was a kid, I wrote down "comedian" as my dream. I dreamt about meeting Shimura (Ken) san in a skit. But now I meet you (Shimura san) in this format...
Takurou (Yoshida): This format?
Kouichi: Hey, hey, unhappy with being Kinki Kids?
(Love Love Aishiteru 16 May 98)

On Kouichi's hair cologne shampoo
Kouichi: (pointing to Tsuyoshi next to him) In the concert, when I kind of leaned my head towards him, this guy says, "nice smell..."
Tsuyoshi: Yeah, that was a nice smell. Was that a hair cologne shampoo?
Kouichi: Yeah, I finished that bottle already. When you smelled it, you felt like "More?!"
Tsuyoshi: Rather than feeling "More?!", I felt a bit weak on the knees....
(Love Love Aishiteru Sep, 98)

On rumour of homosexuality?!
Talking about Kouichi's interest in baseball, Kouichi's baseball uniform was taken out. He put it on on top of his shirt, but the collar of the uniform and that of the shirt looked a mess. Tsuyoshi got up to help him to tidy it up.
Tsuyoshi: This untidy way of showing your shirt collar... (Got up to help Kouichi)
Kouichi: ....... (Held Tsuyoshi in his arms suddenly)
Tsuyoshi: Hey, don't hold me while I am talking..
Kouichi: I did not know what to say, so...
Tsuyoshi: (whilst buttoning up the uniform for Kouichi) At school, there was this rumour about Tsuyoshi being homosexual cos I don't talk much to girls
Kouichi: (looking at Tsuyoshi with a shy smile) Why are you helping me wear this?
