On being a "Man"
Knowing one's self, finding what really suits you and working real hard for that thing that suits you is very cool. Understanding one's own self is actually very difficult. Everyone lives their lives differently. But I think there are not so many people who really understand their own lives. People are not affected by what others say or simply carried away by popular trends. If you know how you want to live your life, no matter what others say, you will keep on moving in the direction of what you believe in. I think that is very cool.

On Hanshin Earthquake
There are so many news everyday that I think there are many people who see this earthquake as something from a long time ago. But for me, that's not something that happened to others. In my home (back in Kansai), the TV fell off and plates fell off from the shelves. The next-door neighbour of my neighbour, their baby became burried under the furniture and died. Back then, I heard from my mom that every morning there is this female spirit that gets on the bus to go to work; she always wears yellow clothes. There are a lot of people who have seen this spirit that this has become a well-known story. For someone who lost his/her life all in sudden, he/she might not be able grasp the concept of "death" and it is not strange for these spirits to stay behind. This is a very sad story.

On what he does in his private life
Do you know about the mental age analysis on the internet? You answer various quesitons, and then you find out about your mental age. I am 46 years old! (laughs) And my ageing factor is 77%! That was funny....

On the name for a new star
When asked if a new star is found, what will he name it, Kou chan says:
"Johnny" (laughs) But the stars we see today, they are light released from tens of thousands of years ago. In other words, they have witnessed over tens of thousands of years. That's what makes me think the universe is tremendous.

On life
"Live the most of the present moment", I think that's good. If I try my best now, someone's heart will be attracted and think, "This guy is good" and then his heart will connect with mine. Dream, future.... Rather than beautiful words, what you have under your feet is more important.

On Shunpei and himself
I and Shunpei have completely different views on love and experience in love. Of course, I have had one-way love. But I have never had a one-way love affair like the way Shunpei has always loved just one girl (Sayoko). Also, Shunpei is very much affected by Momoko, but I don't like a relationship in which the girl holds all the leading power.... Being lost between Sayoko and Momoko, for me, I have never had such experience. I am not that popular among girls. This is true. Shunpei, in the drama, has been troubled by love for two years. I think that sort of live is possible. But for me, I have been working in this world (entertainment industry), I can't have love affairs like Shunpei. But for the same reason, I get to do work that average people cannot try out. .. But of course, there is this wish to love like an average person does.

On "Peaceful World"
In the song written by me in the album, "Peaceful World", there is this phrase that often gets asked, "The burning light in innocent eyes, wandering to look for the other self of mine." This "light" was written with the image of gun shot light seen in wars. But what image it should take will be up to the listeners to decide. It's the same with the other phrase "Seeing the light of hope, look for the other real me". When I write the words, I try to write without being confined by images.

On Tsuyoshi
He's special. It's not a feeling of being friends. He is a completely different kind of person from me. He has a very delicate side but yet possesses a strong side. On ideal man
My image of an ideal man is one who does what he likes. I want to live a life like that. In terms of character, he will be a mild person. It's slightly different from being nice to others, I think it's more about being calm. I want to show my lover different facets of the real me. Lover has a different existence from others. So, I will show that person a special me. I want her to show me a special side of her which is only shown to me too. Will I depend on her? I don't think so, probably. When someone special appears, I will go out there to welcome her. Riding on a white horse and say, "Sorry for keeping you waiting". (laughs) If there is really such a guy, you will be attracted? That's that. (laughs)

On time machine
I want to travel in a time machine and travel back to my secondary school days. I want to look at myself back then. I want to watch my own concert among the audience, but I can watch it on video. But I have not much recollection of my school days. Images of work are so much stronger. So I want to watch myself back then at school.

On having his wish granted
When asked, "If you are granted one wish, what will you wish for?":
I will ask for having 2 wishes granted. Hahaha... The more times I wish for this, it will turn to an indefinite number. Then I can always have my wish granted.

On Nagase (Tokio)
I don't have to say everything in details to Nagase and he already understands me. He moves the way he thinks. (smiles) That's what I like about him. I want to be like that too, but somehow I end up suppressing some feelings. I don't have that ability to act completely without defence. So I think Nagase is great. It's totally unrelated, but recently I had a big laugh with him. He thinks that the cream put on top of strawberries is "spice". (laughs)

On telling girls his feelings
For example, if the girl goes not like me, I will try and go out with her and I am confident that then she will come to like me. This sounds a bit narcissistic and I don't like that. (smiles) But I think that if you let someone knows that you really care about someone, that someone will one day turn around for you.

Calm girls are nice. But sometimes getting jealous or making me feel jealous will be a nice excitement. Maybe excitement is something that makes a relationship last. I think love will get happier if there is some excitement.

I inherited a number of things from my parents. For example, the facts that I am a Giant's fan and that I work very hard, I inherited these from my father. Ah, I am also often told that my voice is similar to that of my uncle.

On getting chocolates on Valentine's Day
In primary school, I received piles of chocolates on Valentine's Day. As I entered secondary school and joined this industry, I did not get any chocolates. Of course, I got a lot of chocolates from fans which make me very happy. But I don't get any chocolates from average people around me as they don't see me as a possible lover anymore.

On summer holiday homework
When it came to writing diary, I twisted it around too. I am the type who wait until the very last day and write all of them at once. If I was not sure about the weather, I would just put down "cloudy". If the teacher asked me "Why was it cloudy?", I would answer "it was cloudy for me". Looking back, I was pretty tricky.
