There are two new particularly destructive viruses in town. Happy99 and Melissa have been making waves since they were first detected.

Happy99 is a relatively-easy-to-detect virus. It is in the form of an attachment. When run, it wishes users a happy 1999. Then it proceeds to make the year anything but happy. It infects .com and .exe files and completely destroys them. This after renaming two critical system files.

Melissa is a hidden email virus. It is absolutely undetectable to the common user. It infects especially MS Outlook files, expands .doc files, and, in general, creates a hell of a SNAFU.

Symantec has released updates for Norton Antivirus containing cures for these viruses. Download them for free at http://www.symantec.com.
