Dousing the Flames

Prologue
The bright moon sailed gracefully overhead, sending its brilliant eternal
incandescence down upon the land, casting shadows of intricate mystery. A soft
breeze sweeps through, whispering tales of broken promises and sweet romance.
It rushes through the water of a nearby lake, causing the liquid to bounce and
rock, breaking the placid calmness of moments before. The pretty blond girl
tilts her head back and gazes deeply into the dark eyes of the young man
standing before her. He bends over and their lips connect, creating a romantic
bond between them, to grow and develop into perhaps, a loving one. Their minds
know only this moment and their hearts beat wildly as they kiss. Therefore,
they are completely unaware of the figure standing, partially hidden behind a
nearby tree, watching them with pangs of sadness in her gentle heart. A single
teardrop falls from her violet eye and shimmers silver upon her cheek for a
moment, before falling soundlessly to the ground below.
The mysterious girl leans heavily against the tree and feels her heart breaking
such as a glass shatters when it falls on the floor. Her midnight hair dances
in the wind and wraps around her beautiful face. She lifts a delicate hand and
calmly pushes the dark strands away. She shuts her eyes from the darkness of
the night and opens them to the darker depths of her soul. There, she watches
again as the lovers kiss, the scene replaying in her mind until she can't take
it anymore and opens her eyes to the kinder darkness of the evening. She holds
her head furiously trying to block the image. She looks back to the couple and
watch as the embrace and walk away together, holding hands to show their love.
She waits until the two are out of sight before she moves.
The enchanting girl stumbled her way out from hiding and stepped into the light
of the full moon. Its everlasting radiance rained down upon her. She lifted
her tear-filled eyes to gaze silently at it for a moment. Then she opened her
mouth and screamed out an enormous cry of anguish and of her shattered love.
Feeling herself letting out some of her pain, she continued to wail, not
realizing that she was glowing a faint red color. A dark cloud passed swiftly
over the moon and the clearing she stood in grew dark. The only light was the
glowing of the beautiful girl, a deep red flame in her world of pain. And she
continued to scream...
And so the story of pain and tortured souls begins to unweave its tangled web...
******
I know this is a very short prologue. But this is how I wanted to begin. A
catching few paragraphs meant to make the reader want to hear more about the
unfortunate, mysterious, girl. Although, from the description, I'm sure you
already know who she is. As the story unfolds you will find out more about her
pain and others as well. As of now, this is it while I finish my first series.
To be continued...
