Chapter Seven: Aftermath

"What?!" Prince Diamond leapt up from his throne, pure
fury seething from every pore. "What do you mean
Sailor Moon's dead?! I gave specific orders for her
not to be harmed!!"

"Calm down," Sapphire said, resisting the urge to roll
his eyes. "No one hurt your precious Moon child, she
killed herself."

"Why?!"

"Because Lady Venus killed Tuxedo Mask. You didn't say
anything about not harming him," Sapphire couldn't
resist adding.

Diamond sat back down, and rubbed the bridge of his
nose, sighing in exhaustion. "Love," he mumbled. "She
kills herself for love. I don't believe this."

"Believe it," Sapphire snapped. "Your sweetie's gone,
brother. It's time to focus on other things, like
possibly, the conquering of this planet?"

Diamond reached over for his wine glass and took a
long swig from it. He wiped his lips and looked back
up at his younger brother. "Tell Wise Man he has my
permission to open the Dark Gate."

"What?!" Sapphire couldn't believe what Diamond was
saying! Surely, he didn't mean it! True, they had
wanted revenge, but not genocide!

"You heard me," Diamond said so softly that Sapphire
had to strain to hear. "There's nothing worth
preserving on this planet anymore. Destroy it. Open
the Dark Gate."

Sapphire bowed, still not believing he was hearing
this. "Yes, brother," he looked back up at Diamond,
hoping. "You do realize you're making a fatal
mistake."

Diamond nodded. "I know. But it's my mistake to make."

Quite some time had passed before Raye dragged herself
away from the Dark Crystal.

The first thing she had done upon her departure was to
de-transform from her Scout uniform into her more
comfortable and comforting temple robes. Usually,
changing into her robes gave her a sense of peace,
made her feel like the Shinto priestess she longed to
become. But not this time. She still felt empty and
alone. She decided to meditate.

Raye sat down infront of the fire, clasping her hands,
bowing her head. But she couldn't concentrate. Serena
and Darien's deaths still replayed in her mind, as did
the feeling that she should've done something,
ANYTHING, other than stand around, being useless. She
could've hit Mina with an ofuda also, instead of
gawking at her sudden appearence like an idiot. Then
all three of the traitors would be frozen and Serena
and Darien would still be alive. If only she had
thought of that at the time.....if only.....

She hadn't. She'd failed. She was just as responsible
for Serena's death as Mina was. She'd killed them. She
felt the tears well back up in her eyes and she did
nothing to stop them.

"Raye?" a voice asked quietly followed by a soft
knock. A shaggy head of hair that could only be Chad's
poked through. "I like made some tea. Ya want it?" He
slid the door open further to reveal a tray with a
teapot and two cups. "Ya seemed upset when ya came
back in. I just thought......" he stopped when he
noticed her crying. "Wow, like, what's wrong?" Chad
came in and sat down beside her, wrapping an arm
around her shoulder.

"Oh, everything....." she sighed and withdrew Serena's
locket.

Chad's eyes widened as he reconized it. "That's the
brooch Serena always wore!" he exclaimed. "Raye,
what's happened?"

"She's dead," Raye whispered, nearly choking on the
words.

"What?!"

"She's dead," Raye repeated. "She killed
herself.....and....." she tried to finish, but she
couldn't. Chad held her to him as she sobbed. When she
had regained control, she turned away from him.
"Chad...there's something you must know......" she
fingered her transformation stick, a small part of her
mind wondering if revealing her secret to an innocent
bystander was wise. But she had to tell someone, now
that the others were gone. "I'm....not what I seem to
be......"

"Whaddaya mean?"

"Well, you see----" Raye was cut off as a phycic flash
hit her.

Her friends.......those "things".........powerful
energy being absorbed......channeled.........at some
sort of gate.......dark energy sweeping the
planet.........destruction, chaos.......the end of the
Earth.........

Raye gasped. "Those morons are trying to destroy the
world!" she exclaimed and held her transformation
stick high. "Mars Star Power!" She didn't have time to
worry about secret identities now.

"Huh?" Chad had been completely lost at the "well, you
see." His eyes widened as he watched Raye's body morph
into pure energy, fire gushing from the stick,
engulfing her in rings of flame. "I don't believe it,"
he whispered, meaning every word. Beautiful, talented,
object of his affection and a Sailor Scout? Was there
nothing this girl didn't have?!

Raye reappeared in a red Sailor outfit with matching
heels, in a pose, infront of some sort of astrological
symbol. She stepped out of her pose, bent down, and
pecked him on the cheek. "I have to stop them," she
said to him. "I may not come back, but I will stop
them!" she was out the door before he could get any
word out. Chad stared after her for a moment, still
not sure what to make of everything. He shrugged and
poured himself some tea.

Sailor Mars approached the Dark Crystal purposely
avoiding looking over to the scene of the earlier
battle.

How do I get in, she wondered to herself. Can I
teleport in, without the others?

Feeling slightly ridiculous, she called out, "Mars
Star Power! Sailor Teleport!" Sailor Mars vanished in
a flash of red light, leaving the outside word behind.
