About the fic.
I use the English dub names and terms with one exception and that is
that use the original spelling for Rei rather than the English "Raye" (I
think it looks better).
If you do prefer to read the Japanese names then please feel free to
alter the names for your own enjoyment.
I've written this fic so that it could be interpreted as taking place
around the first or second season but it doesn't involve any familiar
villains.
On another note, there is some violence in this part.
Anyway, this is my first fic so please be nice:)
I'll have the other parts typed up when I get back from work and will
post them ASAP:)
Also, feedback would be great:)
Enjoy...

"Parting gift" - Part 1
By Blue-Jackal (Anni Ruecroft)
"All right!, Sailor Moon leapt triumphantly into the air as the ghastly
creature crumbled before her eyes, "Moon dusted!".
"Excellent work girls", Luna congratulated her team as she surveyed the
scene.
It was late and the Sailor Scouts were in a dark, creepy, alley behind
an abandoned building.
Their prey had been a viscous creature that had been intent on stealing
the energy of spectators who had been attending a sporting event at a
nearby stadium.
Needless to say, the creature had failed in its attempt and also in its
attempt to flee from the Sailor scouts who had arrived soon after its
attack began.
"Great work", Artemis chimed in after Luna's congratulations and then
turned his attention to the usually chirpy Sailor Venus, "Are you okay
Venus?".
The blond Sailor Scout examined a small cut on her arm, which she had
received when the creature had momentarily come to close for comfort.
"I'll be fine", she assured everyone with a smile as she removed her
white glove and pressed it against the cut on her right arm to stop the
bleeding.
"It wouldn't have happened if a certain someone had thrown her tiara
faster", Sailor Mars remarked as she examined Venus's wound.
"Hey don't blame me!", Sailor Moon frowned and took a step towards her
raven haired team mate, "I didn't see you use your fire to stop the
creature from reaching Venus!".
Sailor Mars also took a step closer, "That's because I didn't want to
toast her!".
"Funny...", Sailor Moon paused in the dark alley, "That's never stopped
you before".
Before the atmosphere between the two bickering scouts could grow
anymore hostile, Sailor Mercury stepped between the two warring factions
and held up her hands to plead for silence.
"That's better", the short haired girl smiled, "Now, I don't know about
you two but one battle is quite enough for tonight as far as I'm
concerned so lets call it a day, yes?".
Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars finally broke their glares and nodded.
"Good", Mercury smiled and within moments the five girls transformed
back to their everyday appearances.
Where the Sailor scouts had been standing just seconds earlier, now
stood a group of normal teenage girls.
"So what now?", Lita asked, "I'll go back with Mina to her place and
help her see to that cut, and you guys?".
Amy glanced at her watch, "I'd better head home. It's getting late and I
have an advanced science essay to begin".
A hand suddenly grabbed Amy's wrist and the hands owner frantically
checked the time.
"Oh no! Panic alert!", Serena cried making the others jump, "There's a
review of the latest Sailor V game on TV tonight and I didn't set the
VCR!!".
With that thought, Serena grabbed Luna under her arm, took off out of
the alley and bolted down the road as fast as her seemingly rocket
powered feet could carry her.
The others blinked and Rei shook her head with an amused smile.
"I guess I'll head back to the temple", the Shinto priestess concluded.
She wore her priestess robes as she had just finished her temple chores
when she received the call for assistance on her communicator from Luna.
"Meet tomorrow at your place Rei?", Lita checked even though they met
there most days.
"Sure", Rei nodded and the girls parted company at the mouth of the
alley to proceed to their destinations, all completely unaware of the
fate that was about to befall one of their number.
Rei could see the steps to the Cherry Hill temple ahead of her and she
was eager to get to her room soon, flop down on her bed and have a well
deserved nights sleep.
It had been a very tiring day for Rei and she had done her utmost to
remain calm and tranquil on the outside even though she had been at
boiling point on the inside.
Finally she had lost her firm grip and had blown up at Sailor Moon for
not throwing the tiara fast enough in the battle.
She hadn't meant to hurt Serena's feelings, she had just blown her top
at the nearest target which just happened to be poor Serena.
Rei sighed as she walked along the path.
It had all started early in the morning when a coach full of American
tourists had arrived to visit the temple.
Rei didn't have a problem with people visiting the temple if they were
genuinely interested in it but these tourists were the embodiment of the
stereotypical 'tourist type'.
They had swarmed all over the temple like flies buzzing around a dead
animal.
They had taken photos of everything and everyone and had shown
absolutely no respect for the temple or any traditions they might be
trampling all over.
People had begged Rei to do fire readings all day, which had tired her
out after a couple of hours, but her anger began to reach boiling point
when some of the tourists heard that Rei possessed some form of
mysterious powers.
After that, the priestess was subjected to ridiculous and non-stop
questions such as, "Can you predict the winning lottery numbers?" and
"Can you contact the dead?".
Rei felt as if she were on display for these peoples pleasure and it
infuriated her.
There had only been one question asked to Rei all day that paused her
temper momentarily and that had been when the child of a tourist couple
demanded to know where Tokyo's Pokemon shop was.
Rei chuckled quietly as she reached the temple steps and began to
wearily climb her way up to a well earned rest.
"I'll apologise to meatball head tomorrow", she muttered apologetically
out loud.
She felt ashamed for having blamed Serena. She wished that Serena would
learn to use the tiara faster but at that moment Rei's words had come
out completely wrong and full of her pet up anger backed up by her
tiredness.
She was sure her best friend would understand and forgive her when she
explained...and bought her several extra thick milkshakes as
compensation for any stress caused although, knowing Serena, she'd
probably forgotten about it already.
A sound suddenly took Rei's attention and she paused.
Seconds passed and nothing but a cool breeze stirred under the night
sky.
The priestess decided that it must have been a night animal scurrying
along and continued on her way.
As she reached the top of the stone steps, Rei halted once more.
Something didn't feel right. Someone was there.
Before she could investigate, a hard object struck the priestess over
the back of the head causing her to fall to her knees.
The splintering pain shot through Rei's head like lightning and her
vision grew fuzzy and distorted.
"Like that huh? Witch!", a voice growled from a source Rei could not
make out clearly.
A boot then struck her hard in the stomach and the Shinto priestess lay
doubled over on the cold ground as she gasped for breath.
"You won't curse this city anymore!", a different voice angrily
announced as Rei struggled to get to her feet.
"Got some fight in you, huh?", one of the unseen aggressors observed
from the darkness.
As Rei was kicked down again, an object fell to the ground. It was Rei's
communicator.
Weakly, her hand reached for it but the communicator was crushed under a
large boot.
"Who...", was all Rei could whisper hoarsely as she lay beaten at her
attackers feet.
"We're here to stop you", one of them explained in a nasty tone and
booted Rei hard in the face.
"We know that weird stuff has been going on in this city for months
now", the other man said as Rei was struck viscously over the head again
causing her to momentarily black out.
"With these powers you've got, you're the obvious cause of all this,
witch!", the other voice said and Rei vaguely saw something glint in
front of her in the moonlight.
Rei gasped in horror and pain when she felt the blade as it was thrust
into her stomach with great force.
She felt her whole body run hot form the sudden adrenaline surge as the
blade was removed and harshly stabbed into her side.
Rei made an attempt to cry out but no sound came and she weakly dropped
to the ground bleeding badly as her attackers fled the scene.
The dark eyes opened slightly, strands of her black hair having fallen
over her face as she lay face down on the cold ground.
She had no idea how long she had been unconscious, probably just minutes
as she was still alive.
Rei struggled to remain conscious.
"Where is that girl?", a caring, yet clearly worried, voice muttered a
short distance away.
Even in her weakened state, Rei recognised the concerned voice of her
Grandpa.
She tried to respond but could only cough blood from her mouth.
Hearing the sound, the old man moved to the temple steps to face the
worst sight he had ever seen in all his years.
In utter shock, Grandpa Hino rushed to his grand daughters side.
Rei lay before him with a horrific pool of blood around her.
She was deathly pale but her dim eyes were locked onto his as if
pleading for help.
"Rei...", the old man cried.
"Grandpa...", Rei managed to whisper, "...help".
"CHAD!", Grandpa Hino frantically cried out, "Chad! Get help!".
As tears ran freely down his face, Grandpa Hino knelt before his grand
daughter, taking Rei's cold and bloody hand in his own and held it tight
as he waited for help to arrive.
End of chapter 1.
