Second Chances
By Sailor Jade

Author's Notes:
Thank you Christa-chan (how dare you pay Zeus to hit me with
lightning!), Jess, MCRK, Jinni-chan, and SuGaRpOp07 (who didn't leave their
real name on the e-mail) for all e-mailing me! It feels so good to know that
people like my story! In case everyone didn't notice, the last chapter was
entirely Jedite's point of view. This next one is going to be in Rei's point
of view. In case you want to know time wise, the scouts have just beaten the
Negamoon. One last thing, I'm going to use the American names since I don't
know the Japanese ones by heart. All except Rei, since I know her Japanese
name and I think it looks better. I hope you all like chapter 2!

Disclaimer:
Alright, here goes. I *don't* own Sailor Moon, DIC, or any thing else
that is in connection with Sailor Moon. And since I *don't* own anything of
that kind it's safe to say that if I'm lying may lightning strike me.
        CRACK!
        THUNK!
        "You own Sailor Moon merchandize."
        Darn you Christa-chan!

Chapter 2: Startling Behavior

Rei:
I stared down at the package puzzled. Who could of sent me such a
thing? I considered opening it and figured that I shouldn't bother, it was
probably another senseless gift that Chad had decided to give me. He had
already given me several, ranging from noise activated toys (all of which I
pulled the batteries out of) to bad song lyrics (with music to match). It was
extremely tiring.
"Hey Rei!" Serena shouted in my ear.
Gasping I fell out of the chair I was in feeling my anger rise.
"Serena!" I hissed, "What are you trying to do, make me deaf?!"
Serena total ignored me and grabbed up the package that was on the
table. "What's this?" she asked lightly shaking it, "Is it a present?"
"Yes!" I said sharply, taking it away.
"Is it from Chad?" she asked cheerfully, "Oh it must be from Chad!"
she babbled hearts forming in her eyes, "Then he'll ask you out, and you can
go on a double date with me and Darien. . ."
I instantly blew up. "SERENA! I'M NOT GOING ON A DATE WITH CHAD!"
"What's all the noise about?" Lita asked coming in with the other
scouts in tow.
"Nothing!" I chirped hiding the package behind my back.
"Nothing, except she got a gift from Chad and won't open it!" Serena
laughed yanking the gift away.
"Serena give me that!" I yelled chasing after her.
"Ooooooh! There's a note too!" Serena sighed as even more hearts were
forming in her eyes.
Lita grabbed the note away from Serena.
        "Thanks Lita," I sighed happily.
Lita skimmed over the note. "It's from a secret admirer!" she said
winking.
Serena, no longer interested in the package tossed it to Amy who set
it down on the bed. Serena then clutched onto Lita's arm hoping to get a
glimpse of what it said. Even Mina got into the act clinging to Lita as if
her life depended on it.
        "‘To my beloved'" Lita started.
"Give me that!" I shouted rushing forward.
Lita quickly handed the note to Mina who ran off with Serena in
pursuit. Lita then grabbed me in restraint to stop me from breaking one of
-or all- their necks.
Mina cleared her throat and continued to read. "‘A spirt of fire
inside you resides. . ."
"Which only can be seen in your onyx eyes!'" Serena continued.
"‘Your long dark hair spun of midnight. . .'"
"‘When I look at you I see the light. . .'"
"‘Of your ora, wild and free. . .'"
"‘Above all things you are dearest to me!'"
        "‘-Your Secret Admirer!" Mina finished.
"Ooooooooooooooohhhhhhh! That is sooooo romantic!" Serena sighed.
"Whatever!" I grumbled, breaking free of Lita's grasp. "Now that you
guys read the note, can we start the meeting?" I asked remembering why all of
them where here in the first place.
"Not until you open the present!" Mina cried smiling.
"Fine!" I snapped highly annoyed. "Add another useless gift to the
list," I muttered.
Amy, being the only one who hear that remark, smiled at me kindly.
"At least you know he likes you," she said sympathetically handing me the
package.
"Thanks," I said smiling even though I felt like screaming. I didn't
even like Chad! I didn't like Darien anymore, or anyone else in my school or
Serena's. Even though I almost desperately wanted a boyfriend I couldn't fall
in love or even have a crush on anyone. And to top it off I had about five
secret admirers! I sighed and looked down at the small package in my hand.
For the first time I realized how heavy it was. Not super heavy, but
not light either. It was much too small for Chad's usual gifts of ridiculous
toys so I quickly narrowed down my list. It was one of the other four
admirers or a new one. I hoped it wasn't a new one since I couldn't handle
another wanna-be boyfriend. The package itself was quite pretty, some sort of
soft black material with a red silk ribbon.
"Will ya stop staring at it and just open it!" Serena yelled in my
ear.
        I glared at her.
"Then you should stop screaming in her ear meatball head!" a male
voice said from behind us.
"Darien!" Serena cooed falling into his open arms.
I looked at them jealously. I dearly wished I had someone who's eyes
would light up whenever they saw me and would always welcome me with hug and
a passionate kiss. Taking the distraction to my advantage I carefully pulled
the ribbon off the box and unfolded the material that I realized was velvet.
Making sure that no one was paying me much attention I quickly opened the lid
and without a second thought stuffed a note that was laying on top of the
gift into my pocket thinking it was more embarrassing poetry.
"Ooh! Rei opened her present without me!" Serena cried breaking away
from Darien.
Darien scowled, but his interest perked. "I didn't know it was Rei's
birthday."
"It isn't!" Mina crowed handing him the poetry.
I blushed as Darien read the poetry and smiled. "It sounds like he
really likes you Rei," he teased.
I opened my mouth to give an angry reply but Serena beat me to it.
"Don't tease Rei!" Serena said mocking being angry, "That's my job!"
        "Thanks," I said dryly.
"Well, keep on opening it!" Lita ordered pointing to the package that
reveled only a layer of black tissue paper.
I sighed and pulled the tissue paper off.
        "It's beautiful!" Mina said softly.
I looked down at the now opened gift and gasped at what I saw.
Carefully nestled into the box lay a jade phoenix with bright red eyes. I
gently pulled the small figure out of the box. It was extremely delicate
looking with long billowing feathers and wide graceful wings. The detail on
the little creature was miraculous, you could even see the tiniest downy
feather. The red eyes caught my attention though. They seemed to burn with an
inner fire that matched my own. As they glared out at the world they only
seemed to look kindly on me, as if it knew who I was and it expected me to
know too.
"Who do you think sent it?" Serena asked.
"I don't know," I said picking it up and setting it down on my dresser,
"but it's defiantly not Chad."

*****

The meeting had been over for hours and I had just returned from an
eventful shopping trip when I remembered the note that I had stuffed in my
pocket. Fumbling into my room I switched my light on and dropped the shopping
bags into the middle of the floor. Spreading my homework on the table for
doing later I reached into my pocket and pulled out the now crumpled note.

/Lady Rei,
It would do me mush honor if you would
perhaps meet me by the lake at 9. I shall be
waiting for you.

                        -Y.S.A.\

I frowned at the note, but at the same time felt relieved. It was
quite relieving to know that I had been right to stuff the note in my pocket
with no one noticing or right now Serena would be throwing a fit insisting
that she go with me. I almost felt relieved that Darien had come at that
second or I really would be in trouble.
I glanced at the clock and let out a little gasp. It was already ten
minutes after nine! I was late! Without a second thought I rushed out the
door.
By the time I got to the park it was 9:30, and I was beginning to
wonder it I should have even tried to come, after all, if I did manage to
arrive in time to catch him he might be a little angry or disappointed and
might think that I had better things to do then meet him. I started to have
second thoughts about not telling the other scouts about him, he could be a
weirdo or something!
Running toward the lake I caught a glimpse of gold and ran toward my
newest secret admirer.
