Second Chances
By Sailor Jade
Chapter 4:
Author's Notes:
Sorry this chapter took so long to get out and what with homework
and this huge writer's block it's no wonder it took so long to get out. Just
to let everyone know this takes place right after the Negamoon. One last
thing, this chapter is going to be in Rei's point of view with a short break
in of Serena's view. Also chapter's going to be kinda short since I want to
make the next chapter in Jedite's view. Enjoy!
Disclaimer:
I do not own Sailor Moon or any of the other Senshi. I do not own
any of the Negaverse Generals. I do not own the DIC or anything like that.
If I'm lying may lightning strike . . . Christa-chan!
"Aaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!"
I love my job.
"I hate you." THUMP!
Rei:
"Why did it have to rain!?" I muttered quietly to myself. "And me
without my umbrella."
It was raining. Pouring buckets. Raining cats and dogs. Any saying
there is to explain rain, it was raining that way.
I was stuck. Trapped. Under the protecting vinyl cover of the Crown
Video Arcade which for some reason wasn't open today. Not that I could go in
to play any games. I had blown all my money shopping at the mall the day
before.
People rushed by not noticing me. After all I was just another poor
slob who didn't have the IQ enough to remember to bring their umbrella on
the day that it rained the most in probably a decade. Of course if someone
said that about me I would wring their necks, but who's counting.
I wonder what the others are doing?' I thought to myself trying to
pass the time. 'Serena's probably getting screamed at by Luna to do her
homework. No she's probably in detention. Amy's probably studying herself to
the bone because she' only 10 chapters ahead in class. Lita's probably
cooking something yummy. Mina's probably shopping somewhere trying on the
latest fashions while Artemis gets dragged along. After all Mina always has
to model to someone. Darien's doing whatever Darien does. Jedite is probably
staring at me like I'm totally spaced out. Wait a sec. Jedite!'
"Rei? Are you okay?" Jedite was asking when I came back to reality.
"Of course I'm okay!" I nearly shouted wondering why I was so angry
all of a sudden. "Why wouldn't I be!?"
Jedite's face looked blank for a moment. "Um, I don't know why. It's
just I've been expecting you to blow up at me a whole 5 minutes ago and well
when you didn't I thought something might have been wrong or something."
I glared at him. He had been there that long! I felt myself turning
slightly red. "Well now that you know I'm okay why don't you go jump off a
bridge or something."
Before Jedite could say another word I turned by back on him and
pretended to be deeply interested in a Sailor V poster that was hanging on
the wall. Several minutes went by and I had just about assumed that Jedite
had left when. . .
"It's still pouring out. Can I walk you home?" Jedite's voice asked
from close behind me.
I whirled around and found myself inches away from Jedite's face. I
gave him my best 'could un-freeze ice' glare, but he didn't even blink. I
sighed. "Sure, why not."
Jedite wordlessly opened a large black umbrella (which I hadn't
noticed until now (leave it to him to flaunt his powers around needlessly!))
and we stepped into the pouring rain.
After several minutes of silence -neither one of us wanted to say
anything- Jedite must have decided he had enough. "Why do you hate me so
much?" he blurted out. He than looked as if he wanted to hit himself upside
the head for asking that.
"Because you're evil!" I snapped not knowing what else to say.
"I don't think our definitions of evil match."
"You drained energy from innocent people. You nearly killed Sailor
Moon, Sailor Mercury, Tuxedo Mask, and I. You tried to take over our entire
world. And you totally destroyed the Moon Kingdom and the Silver Millennium!
What about that isn't evil!?" I demanded.
Jedite stared ahead and took a deep breath before answering. "I know
I drained all those people, but I didn't take enough to kill them; they were
only knocked out. I know I tried to take over the entire world, I was
promised a lot of power, and well I made a mistake believing Beryl.
Destroying the Silver Millennium was another big mistake. Don't look so
surprised that I'm admitting to all my mistakes. And of course I tried to
kill you and your little friends, I got in trouble when I didn't, in fact I
was nearly killed after our last battle."
He finished the last part very quietly as if bad memories were
surfacing. I decided to take that discomfort and run with it.
"So," I said casually, "what did happen to you after our last
battle?"
Jedite winced. "I was frozen in eternal sleep."
I blinked. "Eternal sleep."
"Yes."
"What is eternal sleep?"
"It's when you freeze a person in some sort of crystal or ice. You
take away all their powers and tap it into the prison so that it
continuously drains you to support the prison. If left in there long enough
you just die."
I nodded. "What's so bad about that? I mean you'rr unconscious until
you die right?"
"No," he said even more quietly. "That's why eternal sleep is such a
punishment. You're conscious until you die. You can't move, talk, hear, or see
until the end. It's basically made to drive you insane."
I gulped. I was walking with a mentally insane man. I began to
wonder if I should make a break for it now or when he tried to do something
crazy.
"Luckily I have a good imagination," Jedite muttered sensing my
discomfort.
"So how did you get out?" I asked starting to feel sorry for him.
"I don't remember," Jedite said, "The last thing I remember is Beryl
leashing the spell out on me than boom, I'm in an apartment with all the
food and money I need for a year plus notes on my new identity and where I
report for work."
"Oh."
We walked on for several more minutes in silence with me feeling
more and more guilty.
"So," Jedite broke in after a while, "has Mercury found out anything
more about that monster we were attacked by?"
"Amy," I corrected, "And no, she only knows that the one we fought
didn't like fire and wants our ‘heart crystals'. Not like we know what a
heart crystal is anyway."
Jedite wrinkled his brow in concentration. "I think a heart crystal
is some sort of crystal that stays in the heart and gives the person energy
or something like that. Don't quote me on that. But I'm sure that if you
took away a person's heart crystal they'd die for sure."
I paled. "So they're worse than you."
Jedite gave me a tired look. "Yes, they're worse than I *was*."
"Whatever."
Bored, I looked around and noticed that we were standing at the foot
of the temple steps. As if on cue the rain stopped pouring and birds stared
singing. The sun began to peek out from behind a cloud.
"Figures," I muttered low under my breath as Jedite folded his
umbrella up and stashed it away somewhere. "Thanks for keeping me dry Jed,"
I said louder surprising myself and him for using a nick name.
"Bye," Jedite said softly. He turned to go than . . . "Hey Rei?"
"What?" I asked.
"Can we get together sometime and talk some more? I sort of liked
talking today, besides I still need to get up to date on everything."
I stared for a moment. "Sure," I said in a voice that wasn't mine,
"How about Friday at 8 at the ice cream parlor?"
"The one by the arcade?"
"Yeah."
"I'll be there."
I nodded and ran up the steps to the temple wondering what the heck
was the matter with me.
Serena:
I couldn't help but stare. First I had seen Jedite walking Rei home
and now they had set up a time to ‘talk'. Of course Friday at 8 was only the
day and hour of Venus but I'm sure Rei didn't think about that when she set
up the date.
I sighed and shook my head. I was sure that someone would fall for
Jedite, but Rei? The one that thought that he was a total idiot and hated
him the most? This was too weird. As I turned and ran down the street to go
and tell Luna I couldn't help but think, 'What the heck is wrong with Rei!'
