Rg Veda (pronounced rig veda) was originally a manga
series created by the talented ladies of Clamp. This was one of their first
professional works and it ran up to ten volumes and two OAVs.
Clamp is also the creator of many other popular works such as X, Tokyo Babylon, Clover, Magic Knight Rayearth, Card Captor Sakura, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland and Wish. Only two Rg Veda OAVs were made, with the story of Rg Veda remaining unfinished at the end of the second OAV. Rg Veda is somewhat loosely based on Hindu myths and legends.
The
Clamp's manga, on the other hand, is set in a magical land called Tenkai. Various god-clans exist and are ruled by an emperor, also called Tentai. Rulers of these clans are called by the name of their clan with the honorific "ou" added. Examples: Ashura-ou, Yasha-ou, Ryu-ou, etc. The story begins with Yasha-ou being summoned by Taishakuten

Of course, Yasha-ou did not kill Kuyo. Instead, he simply listened as she spoke the words of a prophecy that seemed to point the way to the defeat of Taishakuten. Yasha-ou then began to gather the six warriors or "stars"

When they had to leave I promised to join them after I had fullfilled my mother's wish for me to dance at the Rite of Stars. However, I was not able to keep my promise because Taishakuten's men came while I was dancing. When I refused to tell them where Ashura and Yasha had gone...
