Welcome to the Chocobo Breeding Page!

Chocobo breeding is a fun, yet complicated part of the game. There are many classes of Chocobos and many areas that you can find some. But how do you know what is the best type of Chocobo? Well, I can help.

AREAS WHERE CHOCOBOS ROAM CLASSES OF CHOCOBOS

1. Chocobo Ranch Area 1. Poor-weak 2. Junon Area 2. Fair-poor 3. Gold Saucer Area 3. Good-average 4. Wutai Area 4. Average-fair 5. Rocket Town 5. Mediocre 6. Icicle Inn 6. Wonderful-Weak 7. Mideel 7. Great-Fair
Remember though, you can only capture Chocobos to race after you get the Highwind! You also have to buy some stables from choco Bill for about 10,000 gil. Ouch!

So you want a gold chocobo huh? Well, I ended up revamping this page because I found a simpler and easier way to get a gold chocobo. Not to mention it will work everytime. Ready for a gold chocobo? Go for it then. Here are the 8 steps to chocobo breeding! Please write to me if you have any questions.

Step One: Before you begin to breed, make sure you have these vital things. You want to have 3 carob nuts and 1 zeio n ut. The carob nuts can be found in the area around the Chocobo Sages's home (in the north you travel on the Highwind, and find a grassy field in the mountains with a house) or to the Bone Village. Walk around until you end up in a fight with a creature that is red and kind of looks like a dinosaur. Use Steal until you get the carob nut. Next, get a zeio nut. This nut is carried by a Goblin-like creature that is in the island with a forest. It is in the northeast area of the first continent. You steal it from him like you did with the carob nuts. Go to the Chocobo Farm and buy at least four stalls, although you really need six to do it properly. WARNING!! You must have a lot of money to do this breeding stuff!

Step Two: When you have bought your stables, go to the continent where the Gold Saucer is located. There are tracks near by. This is where you will catch what is called a walking chocbo. Catch at least three chocobos and send them back to the farm. Go to the farm and talk to the man in charge of the barn. Pick "Moving Chocobos" and see what he says. If he says "Good Chocobo" (aka walking chocobo) keep that one and get rid of the others. If you don't have a "Good Chocobo" keep trying! Check the gender. Now, important! Save your game!

Step Three: Go to the Southern Continent and go to the tracks near Mideel. Here you must again catch three chocobos (or how many you want, but I suggest three) and send them to the farm. Talk to the kid again and if he says that you have a "Great Chocobo" (aka Running Chocobo) make sure it is the opposite gender of the one you got before. If not, try again! Don't give up. When you get the right gender, SAVE YOUR GAME!

Step Four: When you have the right genders, talk to the kid and pick "Mating Chocobos." Select your two chocobos and mate them using the carob nut. Make sure you get either a Green Chocobo or a Blue Chocobo. If not restart your game and try again. You must restart your game because the two chocobos you mated cannot be mated again. If you get the right color, make sure you check the gender and save your game. *HINT* I found that if you before you breed them, you race them at the Gold Saucer until they become a Class B Chocobo, you will breed a Green or Blue Chocobo faster.

Step Five:

Now, you must redo some steps. Redo steps 24 again, although make sure you switch the genders of the walking and running chocobos! If you had a male walking chocobo, you now want a female walking chocobo...etc. SAVE. Then breed them and you should have a different color and gender chocobo. For example--If you had a green male chocobo before, you should have a blue female chocobo. If not restart the game and try again. It will work out! SAVE.

Step Six:

Go to the Chocobo Sage and buy 20 Sylkis Greens from him and feed 10 each to the Green and Blue Chocobos. Go to the Gold Saucer and race them until they are an A Class Chocobo. This again makes it more likely to get the color you want. SAVE when they get to this Class. Now mate the Green and Blue Chocobo using the carob nut. You will get a Black Chocobo. If not start the game again. Check out whether it is male or female. SAVE.

Step Seven:

Go to the Northern Continent to the tracks near Icicle Village. You want to catch the dashing chocobo. Catch as many Chocobos as possible. I recommend three. Go back to the farm and make sure that the kid says it is a "Wonderful Chocobo" (aka Dashing Chocobo)and that it is the opposite sex of your Black Chocobo. SAVE.

Step Eight:

At this point, I must recommend this. To save time, go to the Gold Saucer and race your Black Chocobo and your "Wonderful Chocobo" until they are Class A Chocobos. I say this because when you get to that Class, you're chances of getting a Gold Chocobo on the first shot are excellent! SAVE. Mate the Black and Wonderful Chocobo using a zeio nut and you should get a GOLD CHOCOBO! WARNING--Don't be stupid like I did and mistake the baby for a yello chocobo. It looks yellow, but don't be decieved! Check with the kid or take the Chocobo out and ride it and see if it will cross water. If it does you got 'em! Happy Breeding.

New Info Added

If you are having trouble breeding a chocobo and don't want to write me :0) here is another alternative way to get a Gold Chocobo. Well, Apple Pai has found a way, although you definately have to have a lot of hit points!

apple pai:

You don't need to mate a black and wonderful chocobo to get a gold one......If you defeat Ultimate Weapon in disc 3,go get RedXIII's ultimate weapon, Limited Moon (If you don't have it already) from Buganhogan in Cosmo Canyon. Then head over to the quicksand by the Gold Saucer. You should see a red object sticking out of the sand. Ram it with the Highwind, and a giant monster will pop out. That monster, is the RUBY weapon. After you defeat the RUBY weapon, you should get the Desert Rose. Bring the Desert Rose to the Kalm Travler at Kalm Town. As a reward, he will give you a gold chocobo.

WARNING: THE RUBY WEAPON IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DEFEAT.....I HAVE FOUGHT HIM MANY TIMES, AND I LOST THEM ALL. BE SURE YOU GET YOUR HP ABOVE 5000. THAT ATTACK CAUSES 5000 TO ALL. IT'S USUALLY IT'S FIRST ATTACK SO IT DOESN'T GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO SET UP BARRIAR OR WALL.

I also recommend you going to this page in order to learn how to get a blue or green chocobo. If you have any questions, please write and I will help you out. I am the proud owner of a Gold Chocobo. Happy Breeding. Go to Chocobo Breeding Page!
