Brief Chronology
 
History real-life facts and fantasy details created by Riyoko Ikeda make up the wonderful journey of Berusaiyu no bara.

The following chronolgy takes into consideration both the real dates in French and American history of the late seventeenth century (especially the period from the reign of Louis XV to the French Revolution and its aftermath) and Riyoko Ikeda invented dates. I should also point out that the dates listed below which refer to the animated series may not be exact.

A new king: Louis XV.
 
1754
Birth of André Grandier.

Birth of prince Louis, the king's nephew and heir to the throne of France.

   
1755
Birth of Oscar François de Jarjayes.

Birth of Marie Antoinette, Austrian princess.

   
1769
Oscar François de Jarjayes becomes Captain of the royal Guards.
   
1770
Marriage of Marie Antoinette and the heir to the throne.
   
1774
Death of Loius XV; beginning of new reign of King Louis XVI and the new Queen of France, Marie Antoinette, "the Austrian".

Oscar and Marie Antoinette meet Count Hans Axel of Fersen, a swedish noble.

   
1775
Beginning of America's Independence War. Fersen leaves France to go to America.
   
1779
Fersen back in France. Antoinette and the nobleman fall deeply in love and their love is surronded by a scandal.
   
1783
End of America's Independence War.
   
1784
The scandal of the diamond necklace.
   
August 1785
Jeanne de la Motte and Cardinal de Rohan are arrested in relation to the scandal of the necklace.
   
May 1786
Cardinal de Rohan was acquitted of fraud and Jeanne de la Motte was whipped, marked as "voleur" (thief) and imprisoned for life. Nicholas de la Motte was sentenced to the galleys in absentia.
   
1787
The setting up of the Constitution of The United States of America.
   
5 May 1789
"Les États Généraux", the States General meet at Versailles, after being convocated by the King.
   
17 June 1789
The States General proclaim themselves The National Assembly.
   
12 July 1789
Oscar confesses her love to André and the two lovers taste brief moments of happiness after years of pain.
   
13 July 1789
The National Guards under the command of Oscar François, join the populace and fight for Revolution.

Death of Oscar François de Jarjayes.

Abolition of the seniority (noble) privileges.

Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.

Beginning of Constitutional Monarchy.

The Royal Family tried to escape from Paris, but they were caught.

Fall of Louis XVI reign.

Proclamtion of the Republic.

End of the Constitutional Monarchy.

Start of a period called "The Convention".

Louis XVI is executed.

Marie Antoinette is separated from her son and executed.

Fall of Robespierre.
