Something I notice when uploading file with 56K modem even thought it is only 28Kbps transfer rate my download rate has been reduced to 0 when trying to download anyfile this I tell you a pain in the butt. With ISDN you can upload/download simataneously at total of 256Kbps transfer rate but is very expensive so I am not going to bother putting it. With 56K modem it either download 56K bps or upload 28.8 Kbps no bidirectional. These 56K modem is specially made for leechers Someday we will all go ASDL but who know when seem like 10 years from here to me. It claims to do 640Kbps but who cares if it never become a standard it of no use to us. It has been in experimental stages for at least 5 years now and it has never gotten up on it feet something like this should be forgotten if not used right now as at this time we are desperate for it. Whats funny is that 10 year from here we may all still be using 56K modem because of it high reliability and high availability.

Why is it bad for everyone to have high speed modem?

Heres my theory if 1 user can download as fast the the server send to him he be hogging down all the

bandwidth if two users the download be half as fast.

-------------- Download Rate/ Upload Rate --------------

14K modem 1620 cps --- per min 97.2 Kbyte --- per hour 5.8 meg
28K modem 2900 cps --- per min 174 Kbyte --- per hour 10.44 meg
33K modem 3100 cps/ 2900 cps --- per min 186 Kbyte --- per hour 11.16 meg
56K modem 5000 cps/ 2900 cps --- per min 300 Kbyte --- per hour 18 meg
ISDN 64Kbps 6400 cps --- per min 384 Kbyte --- per hour 23 meg
ISDN 128Kbps 12800 cps --- per min 768K byte --- per hour 46 meg
Cable Modem 256K 25,600 cps --- per min 1.53 meg --- per hour 92 meg
Cable Modem 300K 30,000 cps --- per min 1.8 meg meg --- per hour 108 meg
Cable Modem 512K 51,200 cps --- per min 3 meg --- per hour 180 meg

The Internet do not have Bi directional protocol so it is impossible to download and upload simataneously.
