Intersection: Thor/Tyr

This intersection is relatively nice, if not for the lingering darkness to the

west on Thor Street. Luckily, all the streetlamps here are replaced

regularly..any graffiti is cleaned up almost immediately..and a neighbourhood

police patrol keeps an eye out for any shifty and suspicious types wandering

about. To the east, Thor Boulevard is a much more lively and light

place..housing many people in small housing complexes, and a few larger,

upper-middle class homes. To the South, Tyr Road continues in that direction,

with a mixture of hotels and apartment buildings. To the north, it seems to

disperse at an obscure point..though a few eateries catering to myriad tastes

can be seen.

City Square

Welcome to the middle of the sleepy (yeah, right), humble mountain city of

Midgaard. The peaks that surround the somewhat smallish sprawl of

constructions about you appear a vibrant, cool purple at this distance..capped

with off-white snow at the tops. Although the town itself recieves little

precipitation from being sheltered by this atol of sheer rock, a cold wind does

comb and filter its way through..providing a brisk, though arid, atmosphere.

On the southwestern pointing end of town, a small, manmade pass in the

mountain valley allows for easy access from the bustling world outside. To

your north and west are the commercial districts..manufacturing, shipping, and

selling various consumable goods. In the east, to the 'horizon', appear to be

homes of various architectural influences..the more wealthy of said houses

bordering a small alpine lake and park. To the south, the middle-class homes

continue, thinning out just before the open gap to the highway beyond.

As for where you stand..it is the Midgaard City Square..Several government

offices and the larger buildings can be found on the sides of the slightly

misnomered elliptical, cobblestoned intersection. No actual automobile traffic

passes here, being routed through the side streets..this is a strictly

pedestrian and bicycle zone. A large, granite fountain with a statue of Odin

atop it towers nearly two stories prominantly in the center. There are also

benches about for taking a quiet repose from the hustle of daily life.

>Cloud says, "... yourself? Even a sword used too often will shatter. Your

people will too."

>Arin looks up again. He almost seems to shrink back further into th shadows,

though he hasn't moved an inch.

>Katt . o O ( What's going on NOW? )

>Nabiki arrives from the north.

>Nabiki waves.

>Hex watches quietly from under a bench.

>Harken says, "If we were flesh, that might be true, sweetheart. You and your

people are the ones who'll shatter. But if you do as you're told, you won't

have to suffer."

>Ryouga has disconnected.

>Harken says, "(OOC) Wahahah. First Ryouga, then the rest of you, foolish

mortals! ^_^"

>Cloud stands his ground. "Metal shatter. Humans are resilent." His fists

clenches into balls, watching the haughty lady, not noticing anyone else.

>Katt (OOC) Who're you calling foolish? '=.=' *WHAM*

>Katt takes a long sip through the straw, one of those gurling ones you get when

you're down to almost nothing but ice. She blinks, looking down, and shakes the

cup angrily.

Harken

Clad in armor as red as her hair, this woman is clearly no one to be

trifled with. If the battle-hungry light in her golden eyes fails to

make that clear, the wicked-looking scythe she carries reinforces the

impression. From her stance, it is obvious she knows how to use the

weapon. A dark green cloak swirls out behind her down to her ankles,

and a headband of the same hue serves to keep her long hair out of her

eyes. Winglike guards rising from beneath her high collar help protect

her head from any attack lucky enough to get near her... but that

occurrence doesn't seem likely. If one thing is obvious, it is that

this woman is every inch a warrior.

>Harken arches an eyebrow, and gives Cloud an edged smile. "We'll see, won't we,

baby?" Her gaze snaps to his weapon and back, and she observes pointedly, "I

see you have a new blade."

>Arin looks across the square at Katt. He hesitates, then, "...Hi. Umm..do you

want another drink?" He doesn't seem to care much as to what else is going on.

>Nabiki leaves north.

>Katt doesn't notice Arin at first, being too frustrated with her sudden lack of

refreshment, but Arin's offer seems to have gotten through. "Hey, yeah, you

paying?"

>Arin nods slowly. "Yes," he murmurs.

>Cloud crosses his arms, nodding, eyes locked in with Harken's gaze. "..."

>Seventeen has arrived.

>Katt smiles. "Thanks!" . o O ( Guess he isn't as crazy as he looked before. )

>Harken is having a staring contest with Cloud. Don't mind her.

>Arin half-smiles, walking over to Katt while giving Lady Harken a wide berth.

"...So...where'd you get that from? I'm not really used to..well, drinks...or

finding them."

>Katt taps her chin. "The cafe a few blocks north."

>Cloud's eyes is still locked in with Harken's gaze. "... And I want my original

sword back."

>Arin nods to Katt. His actions seem a mite more hesitant and unskilled than

before -- more like he has thirteen thumbs. "...Err..okay." He looks around.

"You...coming with?" he wonders quietly.

>Katt blinks at Arin. "Well, I'd kinda hafta if I wanted the drink."

>Harken smirks. "If you want it, baby, then come get it. We'll be waiting for

you." With that, she turns to go.

>Cloud shakes his head. "No. On neutral ground."

>Harken leaves south.

>Cloud follows.

>Cloud leaves south.

>Arin nods again. . o O ( D'oh. ) "Errrmm...yeah... I...guess..." A faint

redness creeps into his cheeks. "Weeelllll...err...shall we...go?"

>Katt shrugs, tossing the old cup into a trash bin. "Don't see why not." . o O

( Show seems to be over anyway. )

>l arin

Arin

You take a moment to glance at the tall, oddly-clothed figure before

you. Going by the name of Arin J'ran, this stranger is obviously not

run-of-the-mill. He seems to always hang back in the shadows to some

extent, always around, but never nearby.

He looks up at you for a moment, showing his formerly downcast eyes

to be a startling shade of metallic silver. Somewhat disconcerting is

the fact that those very eyes seem to lack pupils.

His face is made up of fine, almost delicate features, though if

this would hint at an assumption of sickliness, the healthy pink shade

of his skin sets aside any suspicions.

Neat, but unruly, sandy brown hair hangs slightly over his features,

the rest falling back to around shoulder length.

He wears a loose, tunic-like shirt of deep indigo with wide sleeves,

and over that an old, yellow-tan cloak, somewhat frayed around the

edges. A red sash supports pants lack like the darkest night. Those

pants are carefully tucked into black leather boots with the tops

turned down, exposing the undyed, brown leather of the insides. Those

boots, save the area about the ankles, are taped over by bandages, most

likely to protect them from the harsher elements.

>Gourry arrives from the north.

>Gourry leaves west.

>Seventeen walks closer to the fountain.

>Arin nods, yet again. He turns to the north, and walks that way, fairly slowly.

>Arin leaves north.

>Katt follows, apparently.

>n

You depart to the north.

Main Room

This is a sizable and comfy room of a relatively small cafe on the corner of

Thor East and Tyr. Tables are lined about neatly in an L coordination about a

likely L-shaped counter, where foot stools are placed for extra seating.

Behind the counter, a large cutout in the wall allows communication between the

registreers and the cooks, and the waitress or waiter on duty moves back and

forth from this room to the kitchen through a wooden door placed to the side of

it. Set into the northeastern corner, are two public payphones, the restrooms,

and some stairs, apparently leading up to an apartment above. There is little

to know decoration of the mostly wood-furnished structure, and what there is

seems to be following a 50s theme. With a few nostalgic objects of yore, most

notably a jukebox. (Use 'menu' and 'order' to order things.)

>Arin walks up to the counter, looking back at Katt. "..." He looks at the menu.

"...Err..what did you want?" . o O ( I never expected things to be this

difficult... Much different than before. )

>Katt smiles. Wow, this guy will be easy to get a meal out of! "Just a burger 'n

a soda would be fine."

>Arin nods slowly. "..Okay."

>Arin orders a hamburger. Kaori-chan smiles, "One hamburger, coming up!"

>Kaori-chan yells in back to the cook, "Hamburger!" The cook nods, "Hamburger.."

>Kaori-chan finally comes out, Arin's hamburger in hand, and sets it before him,

"There ya are, sugar."

>Arin orders the soda as well, just can't pay for it, since it's not on the

menu.  n.n;;;

>Katt beams at Arin. "Thanks! You're a pal..."

>Arin walks over to a table and sets the burger and soda down in front of Katt.

"...Is that all alright?" He blushes, looking down a bit. "...Thank you," he

murmurs.

>Well, it seems to be alright, the way Katt downs the burger in a good 10

seconds. "Hrmmph?"

>Arin o.O;;; "Errr...nothing. Nevermind. n.n;;;"

>Arin sits down, albeit, as usual, hesitantly.

>Katt swallows, then asks, "You aren't getting anything?"

>Arin shakes his head. "I don't really eat much..." he says, eyes downcast a

ways.

>Katt blinks. "Go fig. Your loss, I guess." She shrugs, and takes a long swig of

the soda.

>Arin blushes anew. "..Sorry.."

>Arin. o O ( Gah...this whole soul thing is rough... )

>Katt smiles. "Nah, not your fault! Just like don't starve or anything."

>Arin smiles a little. "I won't..." He sighs, turning to the side. "I..umm..just

don't need much in the way of solid foods.." . o O ( Might as well not

lie...this conscience thing is rough, too... )

>Katt taps her chin. "Shame, then. Why not get a shake?"

>Arin shrugs.. "That's kind of like solid food, I guess..." He looks up at Katt

briefly before averting his eyes once more. "I just don't need to eat often...

I..uhh...live off of others things, mostly..."

>Katt takes a long swig, replying afterwards, "Oh?"

>Arin nods after a pause of his own. . o O ( Don't blow it...don't

tell...don't... ) So he says, "I didn't used to have a soul..." Like that's a

huge improvment.

>Arin OOC meant that last part as in a huge improvment over not telling what he

was.  n.n;;

>Katt rubs the bridge of her nose, pondering that comment over a swig of soda.

After a rather akward pause she asks, "Doesn't like everyone have a soul?"

>Arin pauses again, this time to think...how to explain... "Well...yes. I

just...well, I hid mine. Locked it away so I wouldn't have to deal with it. But

the defenses wore down, and finally broke..."

>Katt frowns, letting that sink in. "Didja have a bad childhood?" She says that

slowly, her tail lashing.

>Arin smiles faintly. "You might say that... Bad can't even describe it, though.

My father wanted me dead. So did my mother. So did most of my...relatives, for

lack of a better term."

>Katt pouts. Seems rather genuine. "That's terrible!"

>Arin nods slowly. "Yeah.. Well, my mother didn't exactly agree to anything with

my father, and my father and his kind don't tend to like halfbreeds much."

>Katt runs her index finger in a circle on the table, eventually commenting,

"Oh..."

>Arin shrugs. "I figured that dad and the rest of his kind were wiped out in the

last Hunt. Apparently they weren't..." He looks at you. "So..errr...I never

really...caught your name.."

>Katt says, "S'okay, I don't remeber yours either. Katt..."

>Arin nods. "Nice name.. I'm Arin."

>Katt nods to Arin. "Can I ask a question?"

>Arin seems surprised, looking up, eyes widened slightly. "Uhhh.... Sure."

>Katt peers at Arin. "Why'd you stare at me before? You some kinda pervert?"

'=.='

>Arin blinks, then blushes deeply. "N..no! I was soulless and..uhh...I.. I was

scared of you... That part of me was scared that my soul would return, and that

you had something to do with it. I don't know what..but...it seems that, at the

time, I was right.."

>Katt pikus. "Go figure. Wonder why."

>Arin shrugs.. He pauses for a long while, fidgeting awkwardly. Then, out of the

blue, he murmurs, "You really are pretty, you know that..?" . o O ( Erk.. )

>Katt blinks. Long pause. A tumbleweed rolls through the cafe (where'd THAT come

from?). Sweatdrop. "..... Oh."

>Arin's cheeks flush a bit. "I..what I meant was...err...ummm..." . o O ( Maybe

this is why I got rid of my soul in the first place.. )

>Katt . o O ( The guy has a crush on me! *'^^'* .... Now, should I thank

him, or beat him silly for it? )

>Arin just sits there, contemplating his folded hands, trying not to blush to

the point of combustion.

>Katt asks, "Pretty, and not wierd?"

>Arin looks up, the flush to his face fading somewhat. "Wierd?" he asks.

op pats poor Lina n.n;

>Katt doesn't elaborate, but simply looks to the side. "..."

>Arin tilts his head slightly, then shrugs. "No..I don't think you're wierd at

all," he states, manner-of-factly.

>Katt rubs her nose, eventually commenting, "... Thanks."

>Lina, who, as of untill now has been hidden behind a pile of slowly diminishing

hamburgers, finally appears. Well, is able to be seen now if anyone cared to

look. And even though she's been listening to the entire conversation between

Arin and Katt, she doesn't seem too overly interested. Hey, she had -food- in

front of her. You expect her to care what else is going on around her? n.nl

>Arin smiles a little. "...You're welcome."

>Katt stands up. "A... um... I have to go now. I'll be around later, maybe."

>Arin blinks. "Oh..ummm...okay."

>Arin waves.
