Now, however, the talented 18-year old has found his true rhythm in movies. He's already starred in Young and Dangerous-The Prequel 1998 (新警察故事之少年极斗篇) and Aiming High (挞出爱火花). His most recent movie is Gen-X Cops (特警新人类), where he plays Jack, a renegade cop who likes to do things his way, and is the unspoken leader among a team of three (the others being Stephen Fung and Sam Lee). Nicholas says, "Benny (the director) told me the reason he cast me as the lead was because my character in real life resembled Jack's: he has a strong and silent character." In addition to that, he did his own stunts. "The most painful stunt was when I stood on a board and there was a plank near me. The bad gut kicked it and it hit me accidentally. I was hurt quite badly and had to be sent to the hospital", he says. He had to lay off dangerous stunts for four to five days.
His biggest stunt lies in his real life, though, dodging rumours. Presently, the Hong Kong tubloids are linking him with Grace Yip, who plays his girlfriend in Gen-X Cops, as well as with popular Hong Kong singer Sammi Cheng. When quizzed about this, his expression turns stony and hostile. "The tabloids in Hong Kong can say whatever they want, as long as they don't hurt my friends or my relationships with them. I think they just have too much time on their hands to cook up these stories... and Sammi is just a good friend."
To finish, we asked him to describe his philosophy of life in five words. His reply: "No news is good news!"
