Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori  Yuri and Mursili

( The Sky is at the Red River )

is an exciting, interesting and romantic fantasy manga with a captivating and sometimes funny story by Shinohara Chie. It is partly based on history of the Hittites, a powerful ancient people who established a kingdom in central and eastern Anatolia (modern Turkey) during 1750 - 1190 B.C. , and on history of Egypt and other countries in the environs of the Hittite Empire.

18 volumes of the manga have been published so far.

Note:  As this nice manga is based on history, I have done plenty of research about the history of the Hittites and some other countries in the ancient Middle Eastern world of that time, and will add a page about Hittite history in comparison to the manga.

Introduction    about  Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori:

Yuri, a 15-year-old high school girl, lives happily together with her parents and her both sisters in Japan.

But one day suddenly a pair of odd hands turns up out of water and tries to pull her down into the water several times. During a walk in a park these hands finally manage to pull her into a puddle and takes her to a strange world. This place turns out to be Hattusa, the capital of the Hittite Kingdom in Anatolia (present Turkey) in the 14th century B.C. .

From then on Yuri becomes more and more involved into intrigues and fights for might between the nobles there. Some of these nobles even possess magical powers. Some often
try to kill her ( because she plays a very important role there ), other always do their best to
protect her.

One of her protectors is Prince Mursili, the intelligent, handsome third son of the Hittite king Suppiluliuma I. . ...
