Hey, I found a Daycare for Pokemon! What does it do?: The Daycare is a trap for unexperienced Pokemon trainers. This is how it works. You put a single Pokemon under the Daycare's care. Then, you go out and battle wild Pokemon (or Trainer Pokemon in the case of the Blue Version), gaining experience for other Pokemon. Depending on which version you have, fights may or may not count towards the experience the Daycare Pokemon gets. After a while, if you go back, you'll either hear that either the Daycare needs more time with the pokemon or that it's gained at least 1 level. You need an extra slot to be able to reaccept the pokemon back. Sounds like an okay deal, right? Wrong. Here are the drawbacks. 1) Pokemon don't evolve in the Daycare's care. Meaning that if your pokemon has reached the level where it's supposed to evolve, it won't evolve. It'll stay the same. 2) Pokemon will only learn the moves they have room for. Also, the choice of what techniques the Pokemon learns isn't up to you. Let's say you have a Geodude that you're leveling up. You've just given it a TM teaching it Rock Slide and it's other abilities are Tackle, Defensive Curl and Rock Throw. If it grows to the level where it gets Self Destruct, you may have wasted your TM as the self-learned technique chooses a slot and replaces what technique was already there, even if it was your new TM. (Author's Note: Self Destruct is a stupid move for people who don't want to lose the fight, but also can't win. I consider it the worst move available in the game, right next to Double Edge. Not only does it knock the User-Pokemon out, but the other Pokemon might only get a scratch. It's completely worthless in my eyes.) 3) You have to pay 100 per level that your Pokemon gains as well as a 100 for the service. Even if your Pokemon only gained one level, you'll be paying 200 a shot. 4) The Pokemon in the Daycare only gains the same experience as every other pokemon in the fight. In other words, if you have a fight and use three Pokemon (all of which gain 7 experience points), the Pokemon in the daycare will only get 7 experience points.
