==============Pokemon HAHAHAHAHA!============== ==============By A-kun============== ==============Chapter 14: After-Battle Shock============== Anything between * and * is translated Pokemon speech. Anything between [ and ] is thought The Pokemon trainers of the city of Saffron were overjoyed with the news of an almost total victory. The Pokemon Hospital was filled with casualities, but there were no deaths luckily. However, the vicious overnight battle had left large signs behind, as houses and entire neighborhoods had been laid to waste. Not to mention that quite a few members of Team Rocket had dropped their pokeballs during their retreat or had just plain forgotten their pokemon behind. The ownership of the Masterballs went to the real Giovanni, Brock and Ash. Repairs were being estimated and begun. Now was a time to rest. But there were those who could not rest. Ash, for one. He was currently attacking a punching bag in a way that would've left Yamcha impressed. He had never really been angry before. Not in the way he was now. Angry at the Fake Giovanni and disappointed in himself. He should've sent Pikachu ahead with Ben, rather than kept her by his side so he could defeat Gary. Every punch he sent into the Fighting Gym punching bag released new hatred, anger, disappointment and guilt. It had been terrifying before when Shelly had been kidnapped. In fact, despite his brave appearance, he had been on the verge of fainting or crying. Now Ben was gone. Ash had never really met either of Shelly or Ben in school, but both seemed very close to Ash. They were all from the same town. He needed to know they were all right. Finally, his arms too exhuasted, Ash let them drop to his sides. He turned around, leaned against the wall and slumped to the floor. He spent at least a minute staring at his shoes before he heard someone clear their throat. Ash glanced up to see Gary, then back at the ground. "Ash, this ain't easy for me, especially since I wasn't even here to apologize, but I'm sorry that your friend's Eevee got kidnapped." Gary said. Ash mentally snorted, but continued listening. Gary didn't know the half of it. "The real reason I'm here is that my half-wit little brother, Greg, was sent to prison after leaving his Charmander with my cousin..." Gary began. "Charmander?" Ash asked, raising his head. Ben had mentioned that he had given Jessie a Charmander. Could Ben be Gary's cousin? "Yeah, a Charmander." Gary said. "Your cousin's name wouldn't be... Ben, would it?" Ash inquired, recalling that Gary had mentioned Ben's name. He needed confirmation. "Yeah, he got the same score as you on the Pokemon Trainer Test." Gary responded. "Gary, go to cafeteria and talk to the red-haired girl named 'Jessie'. You'll be able to hash things out from there." Ash responded, lowering his head again. Gary clearly didn't understand, but nodded and left. After another five minutes, Shelly's face abruptly entered his vision. He yelped and fell to his right side. "HAHA! Gotcha, Ash." Shelly said, smiling. Ash shook his head and stood up. "What is it, Shelly?" Ash inquired. "Nothing, you looked like you needed a laugh." Shelly said, grinning at him. Ash smiled, but it wasn't long before it was filled with depression. "Come _ON_, Ash. You almost as depressed as Ben was." Shelly commented. "I wonder why we're sent out so soon." Ash asked, half-asking Shelly, half-murmurring to himself. "Sent out so soon?" Shelly inquired. "I wonder why kids as young as nine or ten are sent on a training journey like this. I mean, come on, what if we die or get kidnapped?" Ash asked. Shelly's face grew serious. "Do you really think there's a place on this planet where you could just group up and never face conflict, Ash? If there was such a place, it would be destroyed in seconds. Wanna know why? Because it would be boring and even if we want nothing but peace and quiet, we crave excitement too. But, with excitement comes danger and with danger comes more excitement. It's how we live." Shelly said. Ash blinked as he absorbed what Shelly had just said. Ash raised his head and looked at Shelly. "That's... really deep..." Ash commented. Shelly smiled slightly. "That's because Ben told me that back before we took the test for our licenses. I was kinda scared about going away from home. Ben helped me get through that." Shelly said, smiling even more. "Too bad I didn't save him." Ash murmurred. "Stop that right now!" Shelly snapped, startling Ash as she continued with a passion in her voice, "I'll admit I didn't know that much about Ben either and I'll admit that I'm sad that he's not here either, but we can't dwell in the past, Ash! Looking at the past and saying 'I coulda, I woulda, I shoulda' will only drag you down in the end and you'll never achieve your dream! We can't change the past, but we can change the future! We'll get Ben back as soon as we can!" Ash stared at Shelly for a few seconds before realizing she was right. He couldn't just dwell on his failures. He had to learn from them and keep going. He couldn't look himself in the mirror if he quit before he even tried. Fake Giovanni took Ben somewhere and they could still find him! Ash Catch'em stood up, vowing that Ben would be free of Fake Giovanni's evil, and probably quite smelly, clutches once and for all. Ben began to wake up. He became conscious of the fact that he was no longer being wrapped up by an Ekans. Making sure all of his legs were unbroken, he opened his eyes and let them focus after a few blinks. He had a very strange nightmare of being in a strange fluid with an oxygen mask attached to his face, but he couldn't remember all the details. Reality and dreams had begun to merge during his enforced nap. "*So, you're awake.*" came a voice. The voice seemed to just be making a statement, nothing more or less. Before him was another Eevee. They were both in a padded white room that seemed to only have a single metal door that was about the size of a Rhydon if it were on all fours. "*What's going on? Where are we?*" Ben asked weakly as he managed to roll onto his stomach. "*You're the guest of that weirdo. Congrats.*" the other Eevee shot back. Ben looked at the Eevee and got the impression that it was a female. A very sarcastic female. "*You mean that-*" Ben began. "*Yep. We're both here against our wills.*" the other Eevee answered. "*Um, well, I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Ben.*" Ben said. The other Eevee nodded. "*Uh... what's your name?*" Ben inquired. "*I do have a name, domesticate, but I'm not going just tell you.*" the female answered. "*Domesticate?*" Ben inquired. "*You have a human name. Therefore, you're a domesticated Eevee.*" she shot back. "*A wild Eevee? Wow! Where do you live?*" Ben asked. "*By the large electric place. Humans made it.*" she told him. Ben floundered. There were numerous places that could be considered electric and a lot more made by humans. "*Um, does it's spit out black smoke?*" Ben inquired. The Eevee nodded. Ben easily figured out that she had lived by an industrial place. If they were still on the same continent that he was born on, there were only maybe eight or nine places like that. "*So, who's your master?*" she inquired, deciding to strike up a conversation as it seemed to be passing the time a lot more than just staring at him. "*Master? No, no, no. I'm a travelling companion. I don't live in a pokeball.*" Ben responded. The female Eevee blinked. "*I thought all domesticated Pokemon had masters and lived in 'pokeballs' as you call them.*" she said. He shook his head. "*Nope, we treat each other as equals. She treats all her pokemon the same.*" Ben told her. The female walked over to him and sniffed him. "*You're right. I can't smell that strange stench on you anywhere.*" she commented, sniffing him more. "*Strange stench?*" Ben asked. "*I guess you'd have to live in the wild a lot more, but all pokemon who live 'pokeballs' have an odd smell about them. It's how we can tell the wild pokemon from you domesticates.*" she responded, sniffing even more. "*Huh. I always wondered...*" Ben began. Ben began noticing she wasn't talking anymore, just sniffing. "*Uh, can I help with anything?*" Ben inquired. Suddenly, she headbutted him in the stomach, sending him rolling. He got to his feet, stunned that she would just attack him. She marched up to him and stared in him the face. Suddenly, her mouth met his. He blinked. Wait, hadn't she been trying to attack him before? She rubbed her body under his chin before turning back to him. "*First time mating?*" she asked. He blinked. "*Uh, aren't we moving a bit fast?! I mean, we've only just met and, uh, well, I, uh...*" Ben babbled, backing away. She smiled at him in a eerie manner. "*I like the shy first timers...*" she said, approaching him. "Enough of that." came Fake Giovanni's electronic voice. Ben looked for the source. "You two aren't here to procreate." Fake Giovanni growled through whatever speakers he had set up in the room. The female Eevee glared at the what seemed to be a hidden speaker or just the ceiling. "*So why _are_ we here?*" she asked. "I'll tell you later. For now, no mating. It's disgusting and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to get the stain out." Fake Giovanni informed them. ".........." was Ben's response. Ben was at least grateful that, once again, he had avoided going too deep into the world of Pokemon. "So, you've got Ben's Charmander." Gary said, sitting down to Jessie, who was trying to get up the urge to eat some chocolate pudding. Needless to say, Jessie was not in a mood to talk. The time that they had spent together had been... enjoyable. Having him suddenly removed had left her very numb. No longer would she hear him squeak along to "Ah, Me So Horny". No more would she see him do a funny dance when he got to eat. She would not see him try and say "Animal" only to mess it up and say "Aminal". And Gary wasn't improving her mood. "Look, Ben did not want it, so he gave it to me." Jessie responded. "Eh. Doesn't matter. I just wanted to know where it was and who had it. Greg sucked as a trainer and I was worried Ben might suck just as badly. Have you seen him lately?" Gary asked. "Yeah, I saw him yesterday. I don't know where he is." Jessie answered. "But I heard you were his traveling buddy." Gary said, forcing the issue. "We were forcibly separated." Jessie answered. Gary looked at her, confused. "I thought the only thing missing was that Eevee." Gary prodded. "........" was Jessie's response. Gary began making minor connections in his head. It didn't make sense, but it was all Jessie was implying. "I'm getting the impression that there's a long story behind this." Gary said. "There is." Jessie responded as she began to relate what had happened. Misty stared up at the stars. It was hard to believe and really painful to hear about. Shelly's kidnapping had been disturbing and a second one happening so soon after the first kidnapping. Misty sighed. It hurt more when she stopped and thought about it. Jessie's mission to stop that Jonathan guy had interupted everything. Then again, while Jessie was concerned about Shelly, she did have other priorities. Misty suddenly got the urge to sing. "%Wishing on a dream that seems far off% %Hoping it will come today% %Into the starlit night,% %Foolish dreamers turn their gaze% %Waiting on a shooting star.% %But, what if that star is not to come?% %Will their dreams fade to nothing?% %When the horizon darkens most,% %We all need to believe there is hope.% %Is an angel watching closely over me?% %Can there be a guiding light I've yet to see?% %I know my heart should guide me, but,% %There's a hole within my soul.% %What will fill this emptiness inside of me?% %Am I to be satisfied without knowing?% %I wish, then, for a chance to see,% %Now all I need,% %Is my star to come...%" Misty sang. She had heard that song a long time ago, but she couldn't remember where or when she had learned it. Nor did she even know what it was even called. However, the abrupt clapping that emerged from behind her caused her to sit up and look behind her. Ash was standing there, looking a lot better than he had when all was said and done at the Silph Co. building. He walked over and sat down next to her. She blushed as he smiled at her. "Maybe you should be a singer." Ash commented, before laying down as Misty had been laying. Misty laid back down and the couple stared at the sky. They enjoyed the stars in quiet, watching the stars down their slow, but beautiful dance in the night. Finally, Ash decided to inform Misty of what was planned. "We're going to look for Ben tomorrow. Jessie thinks that the fake Giovanni will return to Rocket Headquarters and we can attack them there." Ash said. "How long is it to the Rocket HQ?" Misty inquired. "Jessie says the only places it could be are Fuschia City and Celadon City, so we're going to Celadon first. Sabrina has heard rumors that a biker gang around Celadon that might hassle us, so she's suggesting that we go see a bike shop in Vermillion. Apparently the bikers don't bother anyone but pedestrians." Ash said. "How long before we can get to Vermillion?" Misty asked. "It's about three days walk to the south. Once we're on bikes, though, it'll be about half as long." Ash responded. "Awful long wait." Misty commented. "Yeah, but I don't think we want to get hassled by the bikers." Ash answered. "True. They can be real jerks." Misty added. "By the way, we're all going to team up and force Fox to tell us how Pokemon can talk." Ash finished. "I wouldn't miss it if a meteor was heading towards earth." Misty answered, grinning. Fox stared at the group of Pokemon trainers who were staring him down. Fox gulped and tried to back away, but they had made sure that any escape route was closed. Giovanni and Jessie were to his left, Ash and Misty to his right, Shelly and Pikachu to his front and Zappy was behind him. "Fine. I'll tell ya." Fox relented. The Meowth turned his eyes skyward and began the tale. "Long ago, inna galaxy far, far away... da rebel alliance had retreated ta da distant planet of Hoth..." Fox began. Fox barely dodged the shoe thrown at him. "Look, I really don't know. Da best I can do tell ya that not all pokemon can learn to speak human. It's sorta like learning a second language or sumthin'. Ya gotta be smart enough ta understand it." Fox responded. "Well, I guess that's the best answer we'll ever get." Jessie responded. Fox sighed in relief as the humans took his answer for the truth. As the night wound down, it was time for Giovanni and Brock to leave. "Anyway, I think it's time Brock and I caught a bus home. See you all later. Oh, Ash, Misty, Jessie, I left you some presents in your bags. I hope you don't mind." Giovanni said, waving as he and Brock left. "See ya Ash, good luck on your journey." Brock said, waving as well. "Bye! See ya Brock! See ya Giovanni!" Ash said, waving back. Ash smiled despite seeing two friends leave, and turned to return to the Fighting Dojo, where he and Misty were going to be sleeping for the night when he ran directly into Scyther. "Hey, mind I join you on your quessst to get that fake Giovanni?" Scyther inquired. "This is rather sudden, but no, I don't mind. The more, the merrier." Ash said. Scyther simply nodded in response. [I'll get you yet, fake Giovanni. I'll repay you for leaving me for dead." Scyther thought to himself. "Let's go see what Giovanni left us!" Misty said, running backing to the Fighting Dojo. "Yeah!" Ash cheered, running after her. On the roof of the Fighting Dojo, Shelly sat with Zappy, looking at the star-filled sky. "*Shelly?*" Zappy asked. "It's all right, Zappy. I think.... just a few more weeks." Shelly responded. "*Oh.*" Zappy stated. The duo sat in silence, looking at the sky. Zappy hugged Shelly, tearing welling in the mouse pokemon's eyes. "It'll be okay, Zappy." Shelly said, petting Zappy. "*I hope so.*" Zappy replied softly. =============================================================================================== This marks the end of Pokemon HAHAHAHAHA!
