I had FINALLY had enough time to watch the tapes my friends had made concerning 'Sailor Overdrive'. Though now, Kate giggled _AND_ drooled at the thought of meeting Sailor Overdrive again.
"Will you stop that, you're terrifying Shammie." I scolded, scratching my black lab/collie/jack russell terrier mutt (Author's Note: Mutt means mixed breed, not what people make it out to be). Currently, we were all at my house, talking about where 'Sailor Overdrive' might live.
"I can't help it, everytime I think about her, I recall her words... 'You're all I want'.... " Kate explained.
"And then she kissed you. You've told us that three hundred times in the past two weeks." Cynthia grumbled.
"And you failed to learn her secret identity." I prodded, grinning evilly as I tortured her with that fact.
"Hey! Don't mess with me! _I_ got to kiss her!" Kate said.
"She probably did that to distract you enough for her to get away." Jason grumbled.
"Well, if we overlay the fact that she obviously didn't know that you were there with the fact that both times, she raced off towards this area... we can limit our search to this area..." Cynthia said, pointing to a map with four lines of projected trajection.
"Let's see, hey, there's my house." I said, playfully pointing to the map.
Cynthia slapped my hand aside.
"Don't be silly. Okay, so..... nothing. She's obviously in the city, but from the way she's on the scene in about one to two days, she obviously has to have a good way of gathering information." Cynthia said.
"Maybe she's in high school." Jason said.
"Good idea, I mean, I heard about that place the day it was closed down." I said.
"That means nothing. Maybe she has an ability to detect evil while in civilian form!" Cynthia proposed (no, not to Kate, sillies ;) ).
"Maybe she was passing by." Kate said.
"Or maybe she caught sight of one of the bad guys. Who knows? In any case, we're not that much closer to finding out who she is." I said.
"What if we put an ad in the paper?" Kate asked.
"Then you'd either get a bunch of weirdoes dressed up like her, a media circus or a crowd of other fans." Jason said.
"What if we-" Kate began.
"Look, we'll just have to wait for her to reappear. Anything else we do is going to either lead us in the wrong way or draw us into a trap." Jason said.
Kate seemed to get depressed at the thought of not being able to find Sailor Overdrive, but conceded to the logic.
Ah, Summer Break. It _SUCKED_. TV was nothing but reruns, nothing new was happening in the news. Heck, I was tempted to run around fighting crime as Sailor Overdrive. Maybe build up a reputation for fighting evil.
About three days later, I was doing just that. Running around fighting crime. Soon, crime was down to a bare minimum. No one wanted to mess with Sailor Overdrive. Unfortunately, my awesome powers don't lessen just because I fight criminals. So, I developed a cool new technique called 'Overdrive Knockout'. By moving my hand forward really fast, I sending the criminals staggering back. Then, I pulled my hand back really fast, pulling them off their feet. Then, I hit them lightly and they go down. Fast, simple, effective and not overkill or anything. Best of all, nothing destroyed so I didn't have to pay for it.
Most of the time, I managed to arrive and leave before the police or media. Occasionally, I'd run into one or the other, gave them a speech about 'Love and Justice' and ran off, pissing them off no doubt.
At least I hadn't run into Kate again. Not that I was afraid of her, it was more of worrying that my secret would come out.
However, crime died down as soon as the word spread that I was taking on more than just monsters, robots and cyborgs (It seemed the remains of the creatures I had taken on had been left behind, rather than vanishing mysteriously). So, when Jason suggested that we all go camping, we dragged Kate along to help her get over her obsession.
"Um, is this edible?" Kate asked, poking at her share of my macaroni and cheese.
"It tastes better, but you're right. It doesn't look like it." Jason muttered.
"Hey! If you don't like, make your own." I snarled.
"Chefs really are touchy." Cynthia commented.
"BITE ME!" I grumbled.
"You sure are picky." Kate added.
I poked at my food more.
"I wonder where she is?" Kate murmurred to herself.
"Probably sitting on her ass." I murmurred back.
Ooooh, I hit a sensitive spot there.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" Kate snarled.
"WHOA! WHOA! CALM DOWN!" Jason and Cynthia said in unison, dragging Kate back to her seat.
"Okay, sorry. I'm just kinda of sick and tired of your little obsession. You haven't even found her and she's not easily found." I said.
"THAT'S IT!" Kate exclaimed.
"What?" Jason asked.
"She's fighting crime, right? I'll just commit one!" Kate said.
"You think you'll have a chance with her if you do?" I asked.
"Well, it'll bring her out in the open." Kate said.
"Yeah, it will. But she's been topping the bad guys in thirty seconds flat. Not to mention that the security cameras blank out a few seconds before she arrives and get real sketchy while she's there. What do YOU hope to do that'll delay her enough to either get away or beat her?" Jason inquired.
Kate sat back down, disaster averted.
"Dammit! I guess since that night... I've kinda been hoping she'd try and find out who I am and contact me......... um, I have to know who she is." Kate said.
"She's probably busy fighting evil and stuff like those Sailor Senshi in Japan are." I said.
"Yeah. It IS kind of a busy job." Kate muttered to herself.
"Let's turn in, okay?" Cynthia asked, yawning.
We decided to go to sleep.
I snapped awake. I was in a desolate plain that looked more appropriate for a war. I began walking across the plain. When I reached the far end, I noticed that the world ended in fog. I circled around the edge and found myself back where I began. What was going on?
"GREETINGS... SAILOR OVERDRIVE." came a booming voice.
I spun around to see a shadowy figure.
"MY FIRST TWO ATTEMPTS AT ATTACKING YOU WERE PATHETIC FOR A REASON. NOW I HAVE COLLECTED ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU. THE NEXT TIME WE FACE OFF, YOU WILL LOSE." the shadowy figure declared.
"WHO ARE YOU!?" I demanded, noting that BOTH our voices were booming.
"YOU WILL LEARN WHO I AM IN OUR NEXT FIGHT." The shadowy figure said, before vanishing.
The plain and fog vanished in a flash of bright light.
I burst awake. Crap. What the hell did that dream mean? Or was it that I was making up a fake enemy to keep myself alert? I looked around. Kate, Cynthia and Jason were still asleep. I stood up and decided to go down to the bank of the stream nearby.
"Not bad so far. You're doing okay for a beginner Super-Heroine." Nabiki said, appearing next to me.
"Hey, I've been meaning to ask you, whatever happened to that girl that was in my place?" I inquired.
"Sailor Sugar-Overdose? She's recovered and she's decided to retire, leaving it all to you. Don't worry, in this day and age, you get allies by the hundreds." Nabiki said.
"And where the heck are you from, anyway?" I inquired.
"Here." Nabiki said, handing me a card.
"'Dimensional Super-Hero and Super-Heroine Regulation Agency'?" I asked.
"Yep. I'll be coming around next week with the written exam." Nabiki said.
"Written exam?" I asked.
"Of course. Right now, you're doing the physical part of the exam. And once you've defeated the main bad guy and crumbled his empire, you'll be given the certificate of a Super Heroine." Nabiki said, leaving abruptly.
Great. Just great.
