Darkness. Much like death, darkness had long since gotten a bad rap. Darkness had the reputation of being the ally of evil and was said to be the very thing that spawned the creatures of our deepest fears. But when push comes to shove, darkness can be just as helpful as light.
Upon finding about Miranda's revival, Yuki's world had been nothing but a world of light. She was a better person than Miranda and would crush the evil woman under her heel. Then, Azumi's declaration and Reimi's confirmation had bitten her. Her attempts at a higher moral ground and a savior-esque mentality had been what made her so much like Miranda.
In her private agony, she had sought to find a better way and came to a realization instead. She had been running away. Not just from the pain or Ayako, but from her own sense of honor and herself. And somewhere, she realized that the only one she had been really hurting was herself.
The desire to destroy Miranda was still there, and it always would be, but Yuki would not surrender who she was just for that cause.
"Let's get everyone and lay the smack down on Miranda." Yuki told Ayako.
Smiling, Ayako hugged Yuki and left to get the others.
[Hmmm, she seems to hug me when I'm not overdoing it. Something to remember.] Yuki thought to herself.
Miranda hummed to herself. She had expected the other VG warriors to follow Yuki to her hideout. She even knew which of the VG warriors would bother to involve themselves. And she knew who she wanted to see.
"RG made a terrible mistake in allowing me a week's worth of time. He thought I would just squander it. And perhaps, I wasted some of it, but now that I'm ready, they have little chance of victory." Miranda chortled.
"Shouldn't you have secured your chance for victory, dearest?" came a rumbling voice from behind Miranda.
Miranda didn't even glance back. She knew perfectly well that M. Bison would have shown up around the same time that her opponents did. After all, he had just loaned two good minions to train up Material and no doubt wanted to see the results.
"It's more fun when they _can_ win. Besides, the data I've been collecting will help in my future training of my clone warriors." Miranda said, motioning to the clones of Reimi, Satomi, Elena, Yuka, Jun and Yuki, recently acquired from the hospital they had been left in.
"You didn't abandon them?" Sagat inquired.
"Please. This is just a trail run of all my toys. When done playing, one should always collect one's toys." Miranda responded, haughtily.
"You're as vicious as you were when I proposed to you."
M. Bison's left hand clasped onto Miranda's shoulder, her hand covering it affectionately.
"I still remember my promise, dear." Miranda soothed.
Bison's grin was at it's largest in the history of his grins. Sagat and Balrog exchanged a glance, both feeling nauseous at the idea of M. Bison and Miranda falling in love. The fact that both were still capable of feeling that emotion was unsettling to begin with, but the two of them brought up horrible images of young girls with enormous breasts... and Bison's ugly mug.
"ARRRRRRRRRGGGHHHH!" both minions screamed at the mental image.
"Now, for the expendables..." Miranda began, ignoring the two screaming men while flicking a switch.
Yuki looked at the door. Behind it was the labrinyth of Miranda's base. And she knew that getting to the woman responsible for her childhood nightmares was going to be harder than fighting anyone else in VG history, her own mother excluded. It had been decided that Satomi, Yuka, Reimi, Jun, and Yuki herself would go through the front door to draw attention away from the others, who were searching for other ways into the building.
Yuki took a deep breath, then charged the door and smashed the offending barrier down. Yuki had been expecting a thousand lasers, hundreds of needles, a pit trap, a legion of pumped up psychos, even a flaming bag full of doggie doo; but she saw the one thing she never expected instead. The other four VG warriors stared in confusion.
"A NUSERY?!" Satomi asked.
In full, soft blankets were laid on the floor, the walls were painted with cute blue and orange characters, mobiles with photos hung from the blue and orange ceiling, and numerous stuffed animals and pacifiers were placed about the room. In the center of the room was a single crib. Yuki walked up to the crib and looked inside to see a bottle of milk with a note attached.
Yuki grabbed the bottle and read the note aloud, "Yuki, my precious baby, drink mommy's milk and you'll grow up big and strong."
Yuki looked at the bottle and struggled not to vaporize the offending container. Instead, she placed it back in the crib.
"Feh, childish, Miranda." Yuki huffed.
"Yuki, I thought you loved me."
Yuki's blood chilled. She had been expecting her mother to be in Miranda's fortress, but she knew she could never prepare herself for the encounter. Mariko Asamiya remained the gentle giant she had been in Yuki's memory.
Standing at a towering 6'7", Mariko had a well-muscled body that left Jun feeling envious. Long flowing brown hair ran down her back and her sharp blue eyes seemed to penetrate anything they gazed at. She wore a blue long-sleeved t-shirt and a pair of spandex shorts underneath a short skirt.
Yuki began to shake, her confidence fading like a dustbunny being sandblasted as her mother walked up to her. Mariko opened her arms and pulled Yuki into a hug.
"Hey, where that XKGB thingy that supposed to be controlling her?" Jun asked.
Reimi paused. Her mother only had a few different designs and all of them had to be on the head. They were always obvious as well. But Mariko's hair didn't seem compromised and almost every other part of the head was unobstructed.
".... she doesn't have one?" Yuka suggested.
"Mother would never let her greatest rival loose in her own fortress. Much like one wouldn't let an underwear fetishiest loose at a lingerie show." Reimi huffed, still looking for the XKB-9000 that should have been on Mariko's head.
"See, you're still my little girl." Mariko teased her daughter as she hefted and craddled Yuki in her arms.
"Mooom!" Yuki complained out of a deeply buried, yet universal teenager reflex.
"I'm sorry, I'm embarrassing you in front of your friends." Mariko laughed, setting Yuki down.
Yuki checked her mother's hair. There wasn't any sign of a foreign object. How did Miranda intend to control Mariko?
"Yes, I'm quite real, Yuki." Mariko smiled, not quite understanding Yuki's reason for checking her hair.
Yuki let go of her mother's hair and thought on the reasons for a while. Miranda couldn't have just...
Lightning arced up from the floor engulfing Mariko entirely. The surprised woman screamed in agony before collapsing. Yuki caught her before she hit the ground hard.
"Sorry, but we haven't got the time for this little get together. After all, your friends have already been captured and I'm sure they want to be rescued." Miranda's voice taunted from seemingly everywhere.
"What do you want, Miranda?" Yuka demanded.
"To be entertained. That's why you are going to fight my daughter." Miranda announced.
"Ganging up on me, mother?" Reimi asked rheotorically.
"Not you, foolish twit. My real daughter." Miranda sneered.
The five VG warriors felt the power before the girl even entered the room. It was impossible to make out her features thanks to the blinding white light that surrounded her. The only thing that any of them could make out was that she was about eight years old and wearing a frilly dress.
"Hello, would you like to play?" the girl inquired.
"Yes, Material, play with them." Miranda ordered.
The room exploded.
Jun didn't have time to think much. When she woke up, a pair of hands seized her throat and hauled her to her feet. Lashing out with a powerful knee, she struck her opponent's face, forcing her opponent to drop her. Jun leapt back to take a good look at her opponent. Elena Goldsmith, in her red leotard bunny suit, was rubbing her chin where Jun had struck her.
"I guess there's no way of telling if you're the real Elena or a clone." Jun mused aloud.
Elena responded by lunging forward. Jun ducked low, grabbing the bunny girl by the front and hurling her into the air. Before Elena could shift her momentum, Jun grabbed her by her throat and left thigh. Together, they plummetted to the mat. As Jun's feet touched the mat, she forced her body upright, slamming an amplified kinetic force into Elena's back, forcing the blonde to exhale forcefully. Jun let the blonde loose and the bunny girl coughed for air. Jun backed away, hoping the attack had knocked some reason into the VG warrior.
"What the hell was that for?" Elena wheezed.
"So, you're awake." Jun acknowledged, walking forward to help Elena up.
Something went *CRUNCH* under Jun's boot. The wrestler looked down to see the bunny ears that Elena had been wearing... or rather what remained of them. Electricity arced helpless from the band on the ears. Jun shrugged. One less mind control device in the world was a good thing.
M. Bison watched the scene with mild disgust.
"Were you planning to have your plan unraveled so quickly?" Bison asked.
"Not entirely. But as I told you before, this was a field test. If I don't learn what's effective and what isn't, we won't have good minions. And good minions are the basis of a good army." Miranda explained.
She turned to the monitor where Reimi was fighting.
Reimi was proud of her fighting style. It was solid style that had few weaknesses. And for the merest of seconds, she was glad for the training she had underwent as Saki's brutal attacks were stopped by Reimi's defense barrier. If Reimi hadn't been trained as well as she had been, she knew Saki's attacks would've left her permenantly crippled, if not worse.
Saki's slashes and kicks continually slammed against the ex-VG Champion's barrier, showing no signs of weakening or slowing. However, Reimi could see the obvious lack of control. The attacks were always powerful, but required too much of a backswing or took too long to do any effective damage.
Even if Saki were controlling herself, the flaw in wasting too much motion was obvious. You tired more easily as you were forced to use more of your strength in order to perform that extra motion. In time, your strikes would become ineffective as your arms tired.
Reimi dropped her barrier and unleashed a vicious kick to Saki's stomach as the green-haired psycho stumbled forward, obviously not prepared for the barrier to drop so suddenly. Reimi followed the strike up with a chop to the back of Saki's neck, which would have made a lesser woman faint instantly. However, Saki had the power of madness on her side. Namely, Miranda, but that wasn't the point.
"Not much of a fighter. Why did mother waste so much time on you?" Reimi demanded.
Saki panted in frustration as she picked herself up off the ground. Reimi noticed that Saki's aura was blazing in a painfully familiar manner as Saki turned to face her. Reimi raised her arms, ready to block whatever attack Saki had in store for her. However as Saki began gathering her power into a tight ball, Reimi realized that the green-haired warrior was going for a super-concentrated blast, which would bypass even Reimi's best defense.
Reimi recalled a wise saying about fighting. The only thing better than blocking an attack is avoiding it altogether. Unfortunately, Reimi hated to dodge an attack as it was a sign of weakness, something Miranda had successfully drilled out of Reimi, thus the head of Jahana was obligated to take the attack and do her best to survive.
Saki unleashed the hellish green ball of energy. Reimi hardened her barrier as much as she could, preparing for the inevitable struggle of power versus power. However, the blast stopped in front of Reimi and seemed to draw in all air and light from the room before exploding outwards.
Reimi's eyes stung. Witnessing an explosion of light followed by darkness wasn't easy on the optical senses, but she noticed a few things as her vision returned. First and most importantly, Saki had collapsed. Second, there was a hole in the wall behind Reimi, a feat that baffled Reimi. Thirdly, Jun and Elena were on the other side of the wall that had been destroyed, as were the other VG warriors that had come along: Manami, Ayako, Chiho and Kaori.
"Where's Yuka, Satomi... Yuki?" Reimi inquired.
Elena and Jun shook their heads.
"Mother must have them somewhere around here..." Reimi growled, wondered which metal-covered wall lead to her mother and which lead to the other VG fighters.
Material was not having fun. It wasn't that there weren't people to fight. She loved to fight and beat on the weak. It wasn't that her mother was restricting her actions, as Miranda had given her the go ahead to kill everyone left in the room.
It was because that annoying boy was keeping her from all of the above.
RG stood in front of Material, grinning like the cat that ate the canary and blamed it on another cat. Behind him, Yuka, Satomi and Yuki were recovering from the earlier attack. Mariko was behind Yuki, the younger girl protecting her ressurrected mother.
"Now, Miranda, you're probably wondering why I'm interfering when you know I don't interfere in the tournament. The answer isn't some moral obligation or even a sense of spite. Hell, this isn't even a favor. I've got a good, solid reason for being here...." RG began.
RG allowed for a dramatic pause.
"In all of the excitement, you forgot to register Material here as part of the tournament," RG declared, before triumphantly adding, "and since _SHE'S_ interfering in the tournament, I have the justification for taking her down."
"You think you can beat me? Go ahead and try!" Material giggled.
That was before RG appeared behind her and sent her flying forward with a ki blast. However, RG wasn't expecting M. Bison to appear behind him. RG felt the psycho energy flux behind him and vanished. M. Bison blinked as RG stood on the crimelord's head.
"Brrr! That was close! For a moment there, I thought there was someone scary in this room!" RG smirked.
M. Bison grabbed the immortal's foot and slammed the teen against the floor.
"Ooow! That's impolite, you know! You should at least extend your pinky!" RG growled before vanishing again, this time taking the crimelord with him.
Silence filled the room.
"Umm, anyone got a clue what just happened?" Yuka inquired.
"Not in the least." Yuki responded.
Satomi flailed under Material's unconscious body, "Little help! She's a lot heavier than she looks!"
"That's it? No more cards up your sleeve, Miranda? Huh, I'm a little disappointed." Yuki sneered.
Silence filled the room for a minute as Yuka pulled Material off of Satomi and the VG champ struggled to her feet.
"Fools. You think that by beating some weak clones that you're ready for fighting me? Even Material dosn't have a fraction of my strength." Miranda's voice mocked over the PA.
"Then why don'tcha come in here and show your almighty power?" Yuki demanded.
Miranda teleported into the room behind Satomi and caught the short-haired fighter. Within seconds, Miranda had one arm around Satomi's throat, and her other hand in Satomi's shirt.
"You're not ready for me, little Yuki. You were almost ready, but then you lost your focus." Miranda responded, her hand slipping inside Satomi's bra to fondle the struggling VG champ's breasts.
Enraged at Miranda's actions, Satomi shot an elbow into Miranda's side and ducked out of Miranda's restraining arm. However, she turned to face Miranda at the same time, the motion tearing her shirt and bra open. Now upset at the loss of her shirt, Satomi unleashed an uppercut, hoping to strike Miranda's smirking face. Miranda merely gestured at the young Champ and Satomi flew across the room.
"Is _that_ what you call a VG champion? I'm embarrassed that I ever possessed her body." Miranda snorted, before appearing in front of Yuka and grabbing her in a crushing bearhug.
"Treat me nice and I'll show you what you could've had." Miranda whispered to Yuka, before licking the brunnette's neck.
Yuka kneed Miranda in the stomach, but the crazed psychopath didn't even give to the blow. Yuka screamed in agony as white lightning filled her. However, it was short-lived as Yuki bodyslammed both of them from the side, separating them.
"A bold move, Yuki-chan! I'm impressed! See why I told you that I wished you were my daughter? You're so inventive!" Miranda complimented.
"Complimented by a psychopath, I'm not sure if I should be honored or disgusted." Yuki responded haughtily, summoning up all of her energy.
"Ooooh, going for the dramatic 'all or nothing' manuever so quickly? But we haven't played yet!" Miranda laughed, before vanishing from sight.
Yuki felt a thousand pin-pricks over her arms and legs, forcing the muscles to relax despite her efforts. She fell limply into Miranda's arms, who cradled her like Mariko had earlier.
"I have a fun game for us to play! You be my baby and I'll be your mother. Now that I think about it, it's probably for the best that you aren't my daughter. Incest is such a boring concept." Miranda told the nigh-helpless girl in her arms.
Miranda's eyes widened briefly as she raised a barrier to block a massive wave of flames.
"I WON'T LET YOU GET AWAY WITH MOLESTING ME, ESPECIALLY AFTER YOU TOOK DAISUKE!" Satomi seethed, rage etched onto her face as she stormed forward, her power building.
"I didn't kidnap any 'Daisuke'." Miranda answered.
"DON'T LIE, YOU MONSTER!" Satomi roared.
"Why would I kidnap anyone? Save for Yuki, you, Yuka and Saki, there's no one in the VG tournament that even remotely interests me. And I wouldn't kidnap someone else..." Miranda began, her eyes flaring as Satomi jerked to a halt, "...when I can so easily take control your body."
Satomi struggled and screamed in frustration, like a dog on a leash too short to let it stop an intruder. Satomi thrashed harder as Miranda began to pinch off her oxygen supply. However, Satomi's struggles served to distract Miranda long enough for Yuka to unleash a point blank ki blast to the back of Miranda's head. The madwoman, unprepared for Yuka's attack, was sent across the room to land in a pile of teddy bears.
"Thanks... Yuka." Satomi wheezed out as she was able to breathe again.
Yuki, now free of Miranda's paralyzing attack, struggled to her feet as feeling returned to her arms and legs. Unfortunately, she wasn't having much success.
"It's not over yet." Yuka coughed.
Miranda pulled herself out of the pile of teddy bears and spat out the pacifier that had landed in her mouth. She glared at the trio with untold hatred, before bursting into unbridled laughter. Her laughter echoed off the walls, before it finally abated, minutes later. Still giggling, Miranda wiped tears from her eyes.
"I haven't had to try this hard in a long time. I'm glad I didn't kill you all outright, this wouldn't have been nearly as fun as it is." Miranda declared, before smiling at the trio.
Yuki collapsed, her body still refusing to recover as fast as she wanted it to. Yuka moved her arms into a defensive position as Satomi shakily tried to do the same.
"But you aren't nearly as powerful as you can be. Damian was right, you all can be so much more powerful. Since I'm feeling so jovial, I'll leave for now. You can seek me out once you've reached the next level." Miranda informed them before vanishing.
The three VG warriors sighed in relief.
