Don't Damn Me (2)

by Jenevivu

I watched them there in complete silence, barely even breathing. They moved about the battlefield and the broken armor husks as if not human, but then again, it was most likely that they weren't. I did not know how I knew it, but it was completely obvious to me that they held great power. I watched as the boys spoke amongst themselves, unaware that i was present. A smile twitched slightly at the corners of my mouth, and perhaps somehow they heard it, but every single one of them in that instant looked directly at me. I froze in the spot, trying to make myself as inconspicuous as possible.
They walked toward me, and then directly past me. I let out the breath I had not known I was holding.
"What do you think of that guy?" Seiji, the blonde asked as they walked by.
Ryou was the one to answer, "he seems safe, we'll have to keep an eye on him though, he could be with Arago, or one of the other groups, I sensed something big from him." The one named Shuu simply kept to himself as if he knew some big secret.
Maybe he did, I would not have been terribly surprised had that been the case, considering the fact that at least one of them ought to have been smart enough to figure it out. But I hadn't come here to befriend a bunch of rather dense boys, my reasons were far more noble than that. I was here to locate a devil who's very existence threatened threatened humanity, a devil which had energies very similar to those of the five boys. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder.
I whirled around to see what was the matter and froze. There, standing before me was a creature that exuded a great darkness from its armored body. I stood staring up at his cold masked face and my eyes narrowed.
"Hello there little girl," he said to me. I took a step back. He continued, "oh don't be frightened of me, I'm here to help you."
"How are you here to help me?" I asked him narrowing my flame-red eyes and trying my best to keep that cool yet annoyed look on my face.
"I can make all of your wishes come true, but for a price . . . "
"No," I answered immediately," there was no way in hell that I was going to trust someone who I had only just met, let alone who was giving off the aura of what I had been trying to catch. He tried to take a step closer, so I took a step back, the look on his face showing that it was just what he wanted.         "What's to be frightened of little girl," he said with a feral grin, the part about calling me 'little girl' was seriously getting annoying by now. "It's not as if I'm the Big Bad Wolf." As he finished that sentence however, there was a howl from the forest, as if the wolf had heard the demon talking.
"I have a name," I said finally, he just raised an eyebrow in mock surprise, "it's Ryuu, so you can stop calling me 'Little Girl' any time now."
"Perhaps I shall, Little Red. I am giving you this one last chance to come with me."
I only glared and shook my head. "Very well then," he said, "I would suggest being very careful in these woods at night. You never know when something scary is going to get you," and with that, he vanished, leaving only an empty spot where the brush had been dented in, and the darkness filling it in rapidly. Another wolf howled in the distance, and an icy cold breeze, which made no sense for the time of year flew past my face, ruffling my hair. I was vaguely aware of a figure coming toward me, but I could hear a slight hint of music on the wind, it was strangely distracting.
"Are you alright Ryuu-san?" Seiji asked startling me. I jumped, only slightly.
"Yes, I'm fine," I answered trying to keep the hint of worry out of my face. The wolf howled again, and Seiji seemed to look even more worried than I felt.
"You should get back to the house, it's not safe out here right now," he said, looking at me with that one visible piercing violet eye. I watched as the wind ruffled around the fabric of his white shirt. "Yami is out tonight, and he's going to be looking for anyone who is out here."
I nodded slightly thinking about how crazy all this would sound if I had not just met this 'Yami' person, if I had not just learned that I possessed a powerful weapon. One even more powerful than my talent with flames.

The night was almost pitch black, especially from up there, in the attic. You could hear the screams much better up there than down in the bedrooms. I sat there, a young girl of twelve years old, watching from the dark shadows, as one of my friends was hurt beyond repair. The screaming had been so loud, that night and many after it, until the day that they decided to drag me up there to that place, then the screams had taken on a whole new flavour.

"Ryuu-san?" Seiji asked, a look of worry on his face, "are you alright?"
I came out of my little trance with a start, "sorry," I said, "I was just thinking."
"Well," he began, "as I said before it is dangerous out here, we had better go inside."
I nodded finally, better to go along with what these boys said, and we headed back toward the house. The air had a certain strange chill to it that it had borne since the dark armored man - or Yami, as Seiji had called him - had been present. We returned to the house somehow just as the others did, strange that they would have been dawdling out in the middle of the 'dangerous' forest in the dark. But I suppose boys will be boys. Another wolf howled off in the distance, the boys all seemed to look uncomfortable especially Shuu, he seemed terribly nervous.
We all went inside, quietly, so as not to disturb Nasuti-san who would no doubt be sleeping now. It was even colder in the house, it seemed that the air conditioner was on full blast. Tiny goose bumps were raising on my flesh. Then there was a knock on the door.
