Born
in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Sarah was discovered by a Vancouver record company
called Nettwerk Records. She arrived to the music scene in 1988 (ten
years ago!) when she released her first album "Touch".
The album went gold in Canada with the encouraging buzz of such tracks
such as "Vox" and "Steaming".
In 1991,
her second release, "Solace",
had an even greater and stronger buzz as many people heard singles like
"Drawn to the Rhythm".
When
her third album, "Fumbling
Towards Ecstasy", came out in 1994, the Canadian fans loved it as the
album also made its way to the American ears with fire. Hits such
as "Possession", "Ice Cream", and "Good Enough" (one of my favorites) gave
Sarah huge success as the album sold millions of copies.
As 1997
rolled along, her fourth and latest album, "Surfacing",
was released. Songs such as "Building a Mystery" and "Sweet Surrender"
gave her even more success. Her single "Adia" currently sits in the
top 5 singles in Billboard.
1997
also marks the debut of the Lilith
Fair, a concert that celebrates women in music and is headlined by
many of today's womens artist. The day long event, which was thought
up by McLachlan, consists of many acts such as Natalie Merchant, Paula
Cole, the Indigo Girls, and Sarah herself.
