Korean Recipe for Herbal Teas: Ginseng Tea (In Sam Cha), Date Tea (Dae Chu Cha) and Ginger Tea (San Kang Cha)

  • 115g fresh ginseng
  • 2 kam cho

    Ingredients for Date Tea (Dae Chu Cha)
  • 225g dried dates (rinsed)
  • 2 kam cho

    Ingredients for Ginger Tea (San Kang Cha)
  • 115g thick ginger (sliced)
  • 2 kam cho
  • 2 dried dates

  • pine nuts (optional)
  • honey (optional)
What is Kam Cho? Kam Cho is a type of herb used frequently in Chinese herbal medicinal and health cooking. It is added in tea to enhance flavor. Kam Cho is believed to soothe sore throat and reduce coughing. This herb can be purchased at any Oriental medicine specialist stores.

To prepare:

  • How to make Ginseng Tea: Boil 7 cups of water
  • Add in fresh ginseng and kam cho
  • Continue to boil for 50 mins (uncovered) till 4 cups remain
  • Serve with pine nuts and/or honey
  • How to make Date Tea: Boil 10 cups of water
  • Add in dried dates and kam cho
  • Continue to boil for 50 mins (uncovered) till 4 cups remain
  • Serve with pine nuts and/or honey
  • How to make Ginger Tea: Boil 7 cups of water
  • Continue to boil for 50 mins (uncovered) till 4 cups remain
  • Serve with pine nuts and/or honey

Why herbal tea? They are soothing and wonderful and makes for a great alternative to coffee. However you need to be cautious about using them as they do have medicinal properties and can be harmful to some people.
