HEY, HERE WE ARE AT QUESTER'S PAGE 10 OF THE PICTURE GALLERY
The Taoist thought of the day:
We may see our life as part of a path and even become the path, just don't try to go through the path backwards with our eyes only on the past. We've been doing that through these dozens and dozens of pictures, but it is only to see what is produced in art has its beginnings in the past to be expressed with some kind of originality in the future.
My son lives in Delaware with a waterway backing on his mother’s home.
He does love to fish. His fishing matched my love for sailing. We never did get together.
In fact he never did get himself a look at our Rose of Jericho. I was very sorry about that.
Here you see our dog Cassie who loves the beach.
As a puppy she used to run and hide behind dunes and stick her head up to look for us.
Again March came along and Port Aransas had
its sand sculpture contest.
This was one of the better done figures.
Here we have a little girl playing peek-a-boo with a dragon.
That and the tinman from Wizard Of Oz is always a favorite for the artists to do.
Of course I favor the artists who let their imaginations run wild and do scenes from the old Atlantis myth.
This was the year that a friend of mine with a local Rotary Club had me in as a speaker.
They wanted me to explain why I chose to write novels. I explained how I had a fascination as a young man with Earnest Hemingway, Jack London, and John Steinbeck. I explained why their writing was appealing.
The mortgage I held on my old Columbus Apartments was suddenly paid off. I thought the money should be wisely invested back again into real estate. Trudy had bought the lot across the street from our house.
Now it looked like the best thing to develop. We should build a house for ourselves. The first step was fill-dirt to level off the property.
After that was done, the second step was to put in the pilings to hold the house.
It took but a couple of days and then the third step could be taken.
Cassie couldn’t resist barking up a storm as we played around in the forest.
As you can see the forest continued to grow.
When the framing of the house began
I found it very exciting.
This was the first house I had built to my specifications. Always before my houses had been built to others desires and I bought from them.
Every day I would watch the workmen at their tasks. Being right across the street
meant I could go over and continually check on their progress.
They agreed to use stainless-steel nails and that was an up-grade.
In so many of the houses I’ve owned, the nails always rusted and left their ugly stains on the siding after numerous rains penetrated the paint. As you can see in this next picture
the outside of the house was mostly finished. Then it would be the inside where most of the work would occur.
We made a big mistake in getting the real Mexican tile.
They would require much work on the part of the owners. Waxing and polishing was just one of the results of our decision. When the house moved in the wind there would be cracking that took place.
However, by May first the house was ready and we moved in. They had started building in November.
This was the kitchen.
I had always wanted a counter between kitchen and dining room. Now we had one. Our library
would be downstairs rather than upstairs as it was across the street. A place in front of the windows
for two computer stations. That was our new luxury. Here you see a little more of the livingroom.
Of course you know who the new queen of our domain would be, the dog of course.
Isn't that sweet of them?
