Touji is one of Shinji's schoolmates and along with kensuke Aida, they are part of Shinji's small cadre of friends. At first, Touji blamed Shinji for crippling her sister during the first combat sortie Shinji was involved; then after being inside EVA 01 with Shinji, he realized that Shinji was not at fault for what happened and since then, has made ammands with Shinji and has become a close friend of him.
