FORMATION OF THE DAVID WONG SUPPORT COMMITTEE
After David's conviction, Tse Kin Cheong, contacted a Chinatown community group seeking help for David. In response, Asian Americans for Equality asked an associate, Shelly Wong to act as a liason in David's case.
It was not untill 1992, when Asian American students formed the David Wong Support Commitee, spearheaded by Yuri and the late Bill Kochiyama in order to address the gross injustices suffered by David with his wrongful murder conviction.
Currently, the DWSC is comprised of Asian American students, lawyers, activists as well as other people of color. We are dedicated to raising the consciousnetss of people concerning racism, xenophobia, anti-immigration and the criminal (in)justice system.
Organized speakers at various college campuses and community events.
Distributed leaflets and letters to the public and various community organizations
Distributed leaflets anin Chinese and Korean languages in NYC Chinatown and China/Koreatown in Flushing, New York
Obtained signatures for petitions demanding a new trial for David
Sponsored forums, discussions, film screenings, musical and theatrical performances and poetry readings as fundraisers.
Staffed information and food tables at annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Festivals in New York City

The David Wong Support Committee (D.W.S.C.) hopes to galvanize peoples from different racial, ethnic, class and religious backgrounds to fight for the freedom of an innocent man incarcerated for twelve years for a crime he did not commit. David Wong's freedom depends on our collective efforts to fight for justice.
