Angels:

Angels are beings sent by God to test to see if the human race is ready to evolve to a higher existence. In the Dead Sea Scrolls it prophesied that seventeen angels would descend onto to the earth to test human kind. The Second Impact was caused by one of the angels, when it self-destructed. Angels have many shapes including that of a Human and great big giants. Each Angel posses an AT field which prevents any physical contact from hurting the angel. The Evangelion where made to fight these angels. The angels power source is the red orb which is the S2 engine that Evangelions don't have. Angels are also able to regenerate body parts after a fight.

Sachiel is the 3rd angel and the 1st to attack Tokyo-3. He went through the lines of the UN like it was nothing.This is the first time we see a AT filed being used. Sachiel was powerful enoguht that it stopped a missle with its hands and survived the blast form an M2 mine. Sachiel was defeated when Shinji let his mind go berserk. Sachiel self-destructed itself in an attempt to kill Shinji but fails and kills itself.
Shamshel is the 4th angel and the 2nd to attack,
Ramiel is the 5th angel, and it could kill anything that came into a certain distance of it. shinji, in eva-01 had to kill it with a long rage gun, that used most of Japan's energy to fire the big cannon. But it was killed in the end.
Gaghiel is the 6th angel,and it attcked the children while they weere with the UN Paicifc Fleet to pick up Asuka and her Eva. Shinji and Asuka killed by sinking to ships and blowing them up inside the angels mouth.

Matarael is the 9th angel,
Sahaquiel is the 10th angel,
Ireul is the 11th angel,
Leliel is the 12th angel,
Bardiel is the 13th angel,
Zeruel is the 14th angel, attacked the nerv and made it inside of nerv. Unit 01 fought until its power supple ran out and his eva went dead. But the eva woke up after it was thrashed by the angel and went into its berserker mode and killed the eva. In the end eva 01's arm was cut off by Zeruel and (while it was still berserk) took the angel's arm and ripped it off and used that to grow a new one. Also Eva-01 ate the angel gaining its S2 engine, that let it run without it needing any other supply source.
Arael is the 15th angel,
Armisael is the 16th angel,
Tabris (Kaworu Nagisa) is the 17th angel,
