In the beginning of this episode you see the angel swimming under water towards Tokyo-3. It finally emerges and the UN with its most powerful weapons attack it. The UN don't even make a scratch in the angel because of its AT filed. Which is a field which all the angels have and it protect them from any physical harm. (most of the time). Shinji is shown waiting at a bus stop waiting for Misato Kasturagi why is supposed to pick him up. When she finally gets there the UN has already started firing on the Angel. Shinji and Misato barely got out of the fight alive, when a N2 mine is detonated under the angel, but does not hurt it. Shinji is taken to Nerv headquarters in geofront, which is underground. He is then introduced to his father, and his father wants him to pilot the EVA. At first he doesn't want pilot the EVA, but when his father calls in the replacement pilot it is Rei, all battered up. When he sees this he decides that he had no choice to pilot the EVA. He launches and his shown being shot in the eye by the Angel.
