Automan (1983)
- The Soooo 80's shows keep rollin' out. Automan was a very short
lived series about a computer generated...man. He was an
artificial intelligent computer that was given a human form in order to
help the police solve crimes, his human friend and partner, Walter
Nebicher, is his tag along sidekick that pretty much gets all the
credit. Walter is the computer nerd who brings Automan into the
real world and even creates Cursor, a small floating droid that changes
into anything Automan requires. Isn't that handy. There was
even another cast memeber called, Jack Curtis, a hot shot police
detective that thinks Automan is a government agent named " Agent
Man". Wooo, how orginial. Hard to believe this show only
lasted one year, eh folks?! Not really.
Alien Nation (1989 - 1991)
- The successful film spawned a series.....was it successful? Not
really. The show had a good start, but then it slid down in the
ratings like snot down a throat ( sorry if that grossed you out ), the
show had made a few tv
movies for the those loyal to the show. Ah well, it was a nice
try. At least it was better then some movie tv shows....but not
enough to last.
Andromada ( 2000-current )
- And so another Gene Roddenberry tv series throw away is
made........well will his wife learn that he tossed them aside for a
good reason? This
is the story of a ship that was caught in a Black Hole for 300 years, a
ship
of the Commonwealth of Earth that was ambushed by a genetic offspring
of
humans trying to overthrow the goverment of Earth, Commander Rick Hunts
crew
all died in the attack before he set the ship into the black hole to
survive
the onslaught. 300 years later a salvage crew tries to recover
the
long lost ship for profit, only to be met by Earths most
formatable
captain ( Rick Hunt - A.K.A. Kevin Sorbo.....yeah you heard me
alright
) and his intelligent ship with personality, The Andromada.
The
Slavage team joins Hunt, after convincing them to come with him and
restore
the Commonwealth of Earth after learning of its fall some 300 years
ago,
so off they go...trying to bring the human race back to the point of
his
galactic hay day. Let me tell ya folks.....this show is
just
plain AWFUL!!
Come on....the whole plot of this show is borderline on the extreme
here,
not to mention some of the manovers of the space ship is practically
IMPOSSIBLE!
Stuck in a Black Hole for 300 years?? Give me a
BREAK!
Skip this one for 300 years.... and find something better to watch.

Battlestar Galactica ( 1978 and early
1980)
- Once again another show based from the movie. It was good for a
while,
but after the many budget cuts and dwindling audiences, it was only a
matter
of time before Battlestar became Battlescarred. The show tried to
make
a comeback in the early 80's, but the show was canceled yet
again.
Not a bad show for its day, quite popular, it was a good
substitute for those looking for some sort of star wars like
void. I have some
fond memories of this show, so I won't bring it down or tease it.
Glen
A. Larson created the movie and the show, he oversaw every bit of its
production and tried to finance it at times. Word around the
campfire is that
he is working on bringing the series back or will try to re-create the
movie again. I would love to get my hands on that project, I bet
I could
whip that show or movie up to speed....ah well, dare to dream.
Battlestar Galactica: The Mini-Series (
2004 )
- The Re-imagined Mini-Series. This show has been brought back in
a different way, instead of the Cylons being made by an alien rival,
the human species are responsible for their creation. No longer
are there any links to ancient civilizations...just a bunch of stupid
humans fighting off their old robot slaves. Oh Pleeeease!!
They've ruined this series completely. Most of the male
characters like Boomer and Apollo are now overly horny women!
This show lacks any real sense of direction as it just ends up being a
sex-starved piece of garbage, the Cylons themselves aren't even that
threatening, now they've even made " Terminator X " type of robots to
go and kill all the humans. This is very UN-IMAGINATIVE and
I think I'd rather have Futurama's Bender coming at us then any of
these pathetic machines. " Hey baby...wanna kill all the humans with
me? " Thumbs waaaay down on this one.
Battlestar Galactica ( 2004 - Current )
- The Re-imagined show is back...but why I ask you...why? Well
some of you think the show is worth having a weekly basis, personally
for those who did...I say your all nuts. The mini-series was bad
enough and the budget for it was stretched as far as it could go, now
tell me how much worst will this series get before it too gets cut
short. Remember Farscape? They had conflicting budget
problems with Sci Fi channel and got their butts put out into deep
space. Enjoy this garbage while it lasts...I think I'll hold out
for a large budget movie that doesn't have memorable charcters being
portrayed as women...no offence ladies, but Starbuck is supposed to be
a guy!
Buck Rogers In The 25th Century
(1979-1981)
- dear god, do I dare talk about this one? Ok, well.....based
from
the old comic book and radio series in the late 1950's, the show tried
(
repeat, TRIED) to create a convincing re-creation. Old buck got lost in
space
(literally) in the late 20th Century and ended up being found in the
25th.
With his trusty robot Twiki ( I'm sorry...what was that?...Twinkie?),
he
battles against the evil Draconians and the Princess Ardala. This
is
way to depressing to go on about....the show sucked...end of story.
BABYLON 5 (1994-1998)-
The most loved underdog show ever. Since Star Trek seems to
dominate
the airwaves, this is the best alternative, the show is smart, funny
and
well constructed. Originally I had no hopes for this show after
seeing
the 2 hour pilot and some of the first few shows, but I soon returned
once
the captain was replaced with another and the storyline began to shape
up.
As the show progressed, a pattern could now be seen, all of the stories
seemed
to reflect on one another. This made the series very interesting,
it
had a purpose....weird. Once you got into the show it was hard to
get
out, the anticipation was too great to miss an episode, if you did you
would
miss some of the whole plot. I must say that this was the best
science
fiction shows I've seen in a long time, it took real imagination and
writing
talents to pull this whole series off. My hats off to the creator
whose
name escapes me right now. But Bravo and well done, pure
entertainment,
I highly recommend you to see this...it may take a long while to watch
it
all...but its a story of Star Wars kind of stature. They have made a
few
special tv movies during the shows run and after, they also tried to
get
another spin-off series made, called " Crusade". But unfortunatly
the
show was cancelled and only made 13 episodes, it will be airing on some
specialty
channels, so I may see it and place my conclusions about it on here
soon.
Beasties or Beast Wars (1997 - 1999)
- This is the Transformers? Thats what I asked when I saw the
show
for the first time it came out, the all computer generated animated
series
carries on the legacy of their predecessors. Despite the shows
end
in the States, Japan has been carrying on the show for some time, four
to
be exact. The Transformers have evloved to two kinds of robots
now,
Autobot / Decepticon and now Maximals / Predicon, Maximals ard
decendants
of the Autobots and Predicons from the Decepticons. The war
between
these two have come to a past world that bears a striking resemblence
to
a certian world their kind once crashed on before. Megatron,
Leader
of the Predicons continuely fights against Optimus Primal, Leader of
the
Maximals. After discovering some advanced alien objects on the
planet
and the second orbiting moon ( which exploded, causing them to become
TransMetal
Formers), they realise what planet they are on, Earth....before the
Autobots
and Decepticons awaken from their ship, The Ark. The Maximals and
Predicons
just recently found the ship, they've merged their lifesparks with
their
namesakes, and have started to evolve into TransMetal
Transformers.
The story took time to get used to, as well as the computer animation,
but
after awhile the story has turned out terrific. I apologize to
the
fine people at Mainframe Entertainment, I take back all those nasty
words
I said to you about making this " Mockery" of a Transformer "Wannabe".
Beast Machines (1999 - 2000)
- Our heros retrun to Cybertron, but what has happened to all the
Transformers......only one thing, Megatron! Having won the
Beast Wars, they were on
thier way home with Megatron as their prisoner, but he got loose and
returned
to cybertron before they did. They were in mid -
Transwarp
when Megatron got loose so he naturally returned a few years home
before
them. Now Cybertron is Dead, Megatron rules over mindless
drones
that he created, and the Maximals are alone. This series
truly
heats up, now it seems it is the fight of thier lives and perhaps
Cybertrons
as well. The Oracle ( a Mega Computer deep in the bowels of
Cybertron)
reformats our brave heros into the next evalution of
Transformer......Technorganic.
The show finished in April 2000 in Canada, and so I do know the fate of
Cybertron and of the Maximals. I won't go into great detail, but
lets just say
that " till all are one" ( the infamous phrase from the Original
Transformers) hints that this may be the final battle between good vs.
evil. The
animation is, as always, beautiful and fluid. The battle
continues
in this dark and some what eerie show, the whole idea of incorperating
other
previous Transformer lore into this one was awesome. I do
have
one prob though. Why are they trying to make cybertron
Organic???
It wouldn't be Transformers if cybertron was made of jungle rather than
the
usual steel jungle. But hey thas my beef. The
show
seems like it maybe over.....but they might have done this to gear up
for
the next season, so I'll just have to wait and see if they have totally
written
off the saga.....or if they have only just begun. I am
Transformed!
Batman Beyond (1999 - 2002) - Holy Futuristic Apocolypse Batman! This show is sooooooo Cool! The animation is fluid, and very Japanese anime-ish. Its almost 25 year later after the orginal Batman has hung up his cloak for retirement, a young spunky kid finds the batcave and dons the new Bat duds, naturally Bruce Wayne helps him fight crime that has become more deadly then his time. Bruce has become a bitter old man...but still has his skills in deduction and knowledge of every corner of Gotham City. Terry McGuiness is the young brash kid who wants to defend the city against the new scum that threaten the futuristic city. The show is dark, edgey, and just how Batman should be all about. The Joker ( long since dead, although they made a movie about his short lived return ) has spawned a gang of young hoodlums calling themselves, The Jokers........and new Supervillians are croping up at every turn as the series goes on. I really hope you watch it sometimes...cause in my opinon its just not for kids....it has storylines that even us adults could enjoy too.
Birds of Prey ( 2002 )
: What if Batman and Catwoman got it on? And what if...as a result of
that
night....they produced a child? Would any of us care?
Ok....I've
only seen some clips of the show to make this quick comment. Its
suppose
to be about when Batman leaves Gotham after Catwoman is killed and
Batgirl
( aka - Barbra Gordon ) is crippled by The Joker. Now Barbra has
to
defend all of Gotham with the help of his come of age daughter, Helena
Kyle
( known as The Huntress ). The show is .....well......on a trail
basis
I think. I don't know how it will be perceived, but at least its
got
some scantaly clad women in it? I really hate the plot
though.....I
mean come on...first of all Batman would not abandon Gotham just
because
Catwoman bit the dust.....hell....he got totally freaky on the
criminals
when Robin died in the comic books. I would like to think that
Batman
would at least brood in his stately Wayne Manor for all time rather
then
up and leave. At least those guy who did Batman Beyond got that
part
right. Update Jan. 27, 2003 : The show has been put out of its misery.
Cancelled due to poor viewership and awful writing ( ok maybe I think
it was because of the writing...ah well).
Captain Power and the Soldiers of the
Future ( 1999 )
: Besides having the longest title for a science fiction series, it was
possibly the worst toy driven series ever to be created. Remember
those old Laser Tag guns? That's what the show was trying to
promote. Set on Earth in the 22nd century, Captain Power and his
Men (and some women) lead an underground resistance against the evil
Lord Dread and his minions of (stupid) Bio-Dread Robots. The
Metal Wars led to the demise of Earth and now Lord Dread was hunting
mankind down to extinguish them for good. Well...nothing gets
more evil then that huh kiddies? The show basicly had live action and
possibly the first ever computer graphics to combine together in a
series, kids with Laser Tag guns could shoot at the TV and help the
Captain defeat those nasty robots. All of their chest plates or
areas on their bodies would flash repeatedly so that the kiddies guns
could lock on and fire away. Some crap shoot huh? The show
lasted only one year (long enough I say) just as the fad of the toy
vanished as quickly as it came.
Charlie Jade ( 2004 - Current )
: Three worlds...one hope...uh...yeah. Charlie Jade is a rogue private
detective dominated by greedy multinational corporations. An explosion
in a desert facility, during one of his investigations, sends him
hurling out of his universe (Alphaverse) to a strange parallel universe
(Betaverse). Both dimensions collide with one another as he becomes
drawn into a conflict with each other that soon incorporate another
universe, Gammaverse, a pacifist dimension. All of which is happening
because of an unsuspecting terror at the heart of it all, and Charlie
is stuck in the middle of it. Well this is a true sci-fi show for those
that dig this sort of confusing jibberish. I tried to watch it, it
looks very well done...but I just don't think it will last. I might be
wrong...but it feels a lot like the other Canadian made series, Lexx:
The Dark Zone Stories. This is a joint venture with Canada and South
African tv studios. I give them full credit for doing a bold show...but
much like Star Trek was when it first started...it's too cerebral.
Charlie better hope he doesn't get stuck out in the limboverse.
Century City ( 2004 )
: Lawyers in the Future! Wooooo...yawn. Set in the not to distant
future, Lawyers continue to find justice for all when stacked against
cloning violations, corporate spying, civil rights for
robots...and...oh....future stuff thats going on. Well, it was a nice
try, but nobody cared for a Law & Order of the future. A brief
season to this one, thankfully it wasn't on too long. Next up...NYPD
Past! What the cops did to bring down billy the kid and no good cow
rustlers. Just kidding. No such thing is going to happen. Unless they
read this review and go "Hmm...not a bad idea".

Doctor WHO (1963-1989)-
The
most longest running tv shows in history, a british program that seemed
to
bring science and adventure hand in hand. A small old man called
the Doctor, his granddaughter Susan, and a pair of school teachers,
Barbara and
Ean, travel through time, space and dimensions. The show was a
huge hit for 15 years, it began to wear down by the end of the 1980's,
due to poor
writing and lack of viewing audiences. The Doctor was a timelord
of
the planet Galifriey, who changed his physical appearance 7 times (
because
of changing the actors to portray the timelord) and has had many
companions
along in his mis-adventures. Evil Daleks, Cybermen and a rival
timelord
called the Master chased after him in his TARDIS ( Time And Relative
Dimensions
In Space), this is what huge flocks of fans watched from the exported
series
in many countries. With a very low budget, the props and special
effects
team did the most wonderful job of trying to keep the show hi-tech of
sorts,
they should be commended for all of their hard work, the most famous
prop
of all is the TARDIS itself, a blue old london Police Phone Box.
Its
more widely known than the enterprise if you can believe that.
The
show was by far the very best, or should I say, the essence of science
fiction.
It can still be seen today, airing on many specialty channels and
Public
Broadcasters. My Childhood wouldn't have been complete without
the
likes of Doctor WHO.
Doctor WHO ( 2005 - current )-
The Who is back! The Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) arrives back on
Earth in our present time and hooks up with a young babe named Rose
(Billie Piper). The first show will had those nasty plastic villains,
The Autons, invading our world with the Doctor in his ninth
regeneration. Daleks are on the way back in this series (After much
long and painful talks with Terry Nation's Estate holders.) and the
producer of the show is promising a much more "serious" look to the
series. That means no stupid low budget effects and props...just brand
new higher quality low budget effects and props (hehe). It's been a
while since we've seen the Doc...but better late (and better scripted)
then never. Get out your sonic screwdrivers, put your feet up on K-9,
and get ready for new trips in the rickity ol' TARDIS.
UPDATE! MAY 2005 - The show is a raging success and the Doctor is doing
very well. But his Ninth Regeneration is short lived. As Christopher
Eccleston departs from being the ninth and his replacement comes in as
the Tenth Doctor at the end of the year. He's losing lives fast this
Doctor. Hope the next one will be just as well received.
UPDATE! MARCH 2006 - Christmas aired the Tenth Doctor (David
Tennant) and now the series is set to begin again in the months of
March/April (Depending if you live in the UK or Canada). The
United States has just begun airing the Ninth Doctor series on Sci Fi
Channel...hopefully it will be well recieved there. The Tenth
Doctor is going to have a run in with some old metal enemies, The
Cybermen, more Daleks, and further adventures in time and space.
Dark Angel ( 2000 - 2003 )
- From the creative director James Cameron " Terminator 2" and "
Titanic", comes a show about a Genetically engineered girl who escapes
a military compound
to live in a post apocolyptic Seattle. She grows up to be a
bicycle
courier by day and a thief by night, her chance encouter with a man
trying
to unlock the truth about the government leads her to a life of
becoming
a super spy. Uh boy.....just writting that made me
feel
ill. Its true what they say.....Movie directors shouldn't
try
to write TV, James must have been on an all time " Top of the World"
trips
when he made this series. It sounded good....it looked
good......but
deep down in the writing, it failed. He cast some unknown
beauty
to play the part of Dark Angel.....no complaints there.....but she
lacks
the talent to portray the character. But its not just her....the
whole
thing just doesn't work, it looks more like a cross between The Matrix
and
Max Headroom. Time to leave the TV scene James......Just
keep
making the Terminator movies and we'll all be happy.

Earth: The Final Conflict ( 1997-2002
)
: This idea about a race of aliens coming to earth and improving our
standard of living is from the mind of Gene Roddenberry. This
idea was one of
many stories he had thought up but never acctually made. That is
until
his wife Majal Barrett found the old story and made it into a tv show
in
Canada, well guess what, the show sucks. There must have been a
very
good reason for why gene didn't want this made, like ...well....I
dunno,
maybe because.....its awful!!?!??! The show smacks of no
design
concept and literally feels like the earth version of star trek, but
with
a urban cop overtheme to it. If earth is the final
conflict.....then
by all means, put it out of its misery.
ENTERPRISE ( 2001 - 2005 )
- With out the " Star Trek" in front of it....and the voyage of the
Pre-Federation days of the Enterprise, the producers of Trek deciced it
was time to begin fresh. This ment a new music score for the
begining ( by Diane Warren no less....ewww), the timeline of the movie
" First Contact " almost 100 years
after the first warp flight, and the first contact with the
klingons. I had very bad hopes for this show.....dreaded the
thought of " messing "
with the Star Trek history, but I soon forgave them....but not the
music (
come on Diane Warren???),
The show is about the first captain, the first crew..and the first days
of
the NX - ENTERPRISE. Captain John Archer( Scott Bakula of Quantam
Leap
), Vulcan Science officer T'Pol and other human crew that no one could
give
a crap about. The show is slow....but it is interesting to see
them
use things that 23rd or 24th Century people will take for granted, like
the
first "Phase Pistol", the first use of the Transporter on humans and
the
fact that the ship has no real "shields" to protect them from enemy
fire.
Its doing wonderful in the ratings, so well infact, that they haven't
seen
the likes of this since the days of The Next Generation! Paramount has
finally
brought the franchise out of the sprial of the abyss and made Star Trek
a
household name again......well more like " Enterprise " a household
name. So look out Klingons, Romulans and you...uh....People from the
distant future
that pop in and out of the series now and then.....its full warp speed
ahead.
UPDATE! MAY 2005: The show has been CANNED! That's right, it seems
that the bad opening music, lousy story arcs and UPN wanting to stick
with the "sitcom" shows is pulling the plug on this mission. One year
short of it's five year mission...but we all saw it coming. The final
Episode was disappointing and rather stale...much like the seasons of
the past. A final tribute to what was a great tv show and ruined by
those controling it after Gene left. Nice going guys...way to bury the
legacy. What's next you say? NOTHING! This franchise is on the shelf
for 5 or 10 years! No movies...no spin offs...nothing. It seems Trek
has been put into dry dock until they can figure out how to get the
darn thing popular again. I think the hiatus will do the trick...theres
been too much Trek shoved at us over the years and it needs a well
deserved rest before relaunching into our hopes and dreams. Till
then...live long and prosper. Sorry Gene...

Fireball XL-5 (1961-1964)-
When Marionettes attack! This was definitely made for kids,
because
it is of such low grade quality, only kids could find it amusing.
It
was a spaceship with a silly mission that it would have made the
original
series of Star Trek look like the intelligent space drama. Nuff
Said.
First Wave (1998- 2002 ) : UGH! Bad shows seem to be the running theme for the end of the century. First wave is about a guy that loses his wife and child because of the impending doom of aliens taking over the earth, now he hunts them down for revenge and tries to warn everyone of their arrival. Welcome to Paranoia 101, sheesh, the show is totally stupid with no interesting motive at all. Basically this is war of the worlds, only the beefed up 90's version of it, with sex, things that blow-up real good, and an overwelming feeling of " whats the point?" kind of atmosphere. They claim its the number one show on Space: The Imagination Station, But I'd like to know where they get that idea from, I don't know any slack jawed hic that would watch it ( they're too busy watching Jerry Springer...You know...with topics like: My mother had adulterious affair with my brother's, sister's, cousin's, dog's alien lover).
Futurama (1999- 2002):
The
Simpsons in space? Nah, it's by the same folks ( and creator ) but it
takes
place during our ( supposed ) reality. A pizza boy is frozen on the eve
of
2000 and revived in the 30th Century. With his new found friends Bender
(
a robot with a homer simpson lifestyle), Leeta ( a one eyed alien
pilot)
and many more characters that come in and out of Fry's life in this
wacky
century. Its funny and great, I love a good sci-fi toon spoof..and this
one
is the one to watch. UPDATE 2002: The show has had poor veiwership from
the start and now has been terminated, Personally....I loved the show.
I
wish they would have reconsidered, when the simpsons go ( if ever )
they
will need something to fall back on afterwards. Oh well.....as Bender
would
say " Bite my shiny metal ass! "
2006 News scoop! REBIRTH OF FUTURAMA?? Could happen....seems that
the show is getting a fan frenzy much like Family Guy and might
possibly return to the TV again. Cross fingers, set your "what
if" machines with your finglongers and pray to zombie Jebus that it
will happen.
Farscape (1999- 2002): Buck
Rodgers meets Space Muppets! This show is brought to you by Jim
Henson's
Creature shop, which is ok by me but it sure doesn't save anything
about
the show. What started out as a show aimed at pre-teen kids,
blossomed
into a cult program to the older viewers. An astronaut is caught into a
wormhole
and is thrusted into the very depths of space, there he encounters a
nomadic
ship and a crew of misfit aliens. Together they " Trek " through
the
stars and encounter many hostile creatures and have odd adventures.
I
will admit the show did have promise, but not enough to save it from
the
Black Hole of being shelved. It only had three seasons and was
about
to start the fouth....but then the Sci-fi Channel ( which was airing it
)
canceled it. A letter writting campain has begun to bring it back
on
the air......but I don't think it will do anything.
Firefly (2002):
Buffy I don't think we're in Kansas anymore. This show is about a
bunch
of mercenaries flying around in the beat up ship called Firefly (
sounds
like a car ), not a lot of aliens that look like aliens in this show,
but
perhaps that will change later on........maybe.
It has a fresh and stylistc look to it and chances are it will do
good......for
maybe half the season. Made by the same man that brought you
Buffy
the Vampire Slayer, so the scripting might be funny and original.
The show was canceled or put on "hiatus" for now. It doesn't look
like this one will be flying back into space anytime soon.
- G -
G VS E (1999 - 2000 ): Well,
this is like watching Pulp Fiction and Chis Carter's Millennium all
rolled into one. Totally hilarious and just very cool to
watch. Its
about two guys: one black - Henry, and one white - Chandler. They
are
part of the Core, a heavenly order of earth bound angels that are
dedicated
to stoping the minions of satan from stealing human soles.
The
idea is fresh, hip and very funny. I highly recommend you to
watch
it if you can ( if it ever goes into reruns ), anyone that is into
X-files
or Pulp Fiction will enjoy this show, the concept is so cool it
hurts.
As Henry and Chandler would say: " deal with the devil is bad....its
our
job to stop them!" " Is he always like this?"
Right on brothers!
UPDATE 2000: The show must have been cancelled to what I can only
spectulate as to low ratings. Shame, it was a good show. It ended in
mid-
2000 I figure there must have been a total of 15 shows in total, so
sad,
no one will know about the daily bouts of G vs E.
Jake 2.0 ( 2003-2004 )
: The 21st Century version of The Six Million Dollar Man. Jake
Foley is a computer technician for the NSA who secretly longs for a
chance to work on the field. Circumstance puts him in a top secret
laboratory, in the middle of a shootout between security guards and a
saboteur. During the battle, a vial containing an experimental serum
explodes, covering Jake with shrapnel. But it turns out that the serum
is actually nanomites, microscopic submachines that heal his injuries
and alter his body. Upon discovering his new mind-boggling powers, Jake
begins to operate at an atomic level, possessing superhuman strength,
lightning-fast speed, heightened hearing, magnified vision and the
ability to communicate telepathically with computers. The NSA soon
realizes Jake is an untested asset and forms a Special Ops team with
him at its core. As Jake finally realizes his dream of being of being a
field operative, he must also contend with the return of would-be
girlfriend Sarah Heywood, who is involved in a Congressional
investigation which threatens to expose his operation. I'll be
honest with ya folks, I could give a crap about this series. It
didn't look interesting to me then and now that it's off the air for
good....I still don't give a crap. It was brain dead nonsense
they fed and just another attempt to milk off of an older series.
Jake is offline.
Justice League ( 2002 - 2003 ) : Animated heros of DC unite! Paul Dini strikes again with this new spin off in the tradition of Batman: TAS, Batman Beyond and Superman. Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Superman, Martian The Manhunter and Hawkgirl ban together to create a new force to protect the Earth. The show has wonderful writing, brilliant voice performances and the slick, cool style of Paul Dini's usual kind. Battling against Lex Luthor, Gorilla Grodd, Solomon Grundy, and alien threats...the team has their work cut out for them as they try to stick together to work as a team. The show literally showed us what each character was like in both hero mode and in daily life, the strain of egos between them nearly ripped the team apart in the end and instead of disbanding the whole concept of Justice League the opted to re-infuse it with more heroes. Which brings us to the next spin off of the series.....
Jutice League Unlimited ( 2004 - Current
)
: More superheros...more action. The animated series returns with a
whole universe of DC characters joining the regular cast to battle the
forces of evil. Supergirl, Green Arrow, Starman, The Atom and more
share the spotlight in this series and each get their own tale of what
they bring to the team. Even obscure characters like Booster Gold, The
Question and Hawk and Dove are put in as if they were important as the
rest. The show continues to blow me away with smart writing and
wonderful comedy. The odd bits with Batman singing, Wonder Woman
turning into a pig and campy moments in the show are just a bit hard to
swollow...but still fun nonetheless. Hope this show lasts for a long
while and give us every bit of entertainment that has made it a hard
act to follow. Sing it bats! "Am I bluuuuue? Am I bluuuuuee?" *Shiver*
Very disturbing.

Knight Rider ( 1984 - 1986 )
: Germans love David Hasselhoff! That explains why this old show
and
his current one, Baywatch, is so popular over there. Any kid
growing
up in the mid- 80's would tell you that they used to watch Knight
Rider,
it was a cool comupterized car that did lots of cool stunts, problem
was.....it kept doing the same ones over and over again. But we
didn't care, after all, it was Knight Rider! Created by the same
guy who brought you BattleStar Galactica, The A-Team, and the good ol'
Dukes of Hazzard. Glen A. Larson must have prided himself back
then on being the best stunt car filmer of all
time, the show was constantly showing us every angle of the Black
TransAm ( K.I.T.T. - Knight Industry Two Thousand ) and would have the
car battling it out with monster trucks, racing cars, laser
cannon blasts, bombs,
etc.... The car was supposed to be impervious to any harm,
and
had a flashing light inside and out, one to show us the car talking to
Micheal
Knight ( Hasselhoff ) and the other to go back and forth to
look....well.....neat
I guess. Ah those where the days, but as I look on those episodes
now,
I find it to be utter garbage. I think its best to leave the
Knight
Rider in the shadows of the 80's where it belongs.

Lost (2005 - Current)
- Why is this on a sci fi tv website? Have you watched the series at
all? Some very sci fi things happen on that show that gives it merit to
be on here. Lost is about an airplane that crashes on a mysterious
island, the survivors try every which way to survive and find a way
off...but they soon find out there is more to this island than meets
the eye. Unknown forces, beings, creatures and odd discovers lead the
stranded people to fear for their very lives each day. People crop up
out of no where, members of their group disappear suddenly or in a
strange way, and questions of their past are explored as we get to know
each one and their lives before the crash. Lost is like watching a
never ending Survivor show with a Twilight Zone twist. While I wasn't
too keen on watching at first, I must admit the show has grown on me,
just how long can they keep the suspense and surprising turns on a
weekly basis I wonder? Well...if you are as lost as I am on some of the
elements or overall plot of this fantasy island....then I guess we're
in good company. Just don't miss a show or else you truly will
be...Lost.
LEXX: The Dark Zone Stories (1997)
- A four part TV Mini-movie series about a group of unlikely heroes
trying to escape the clutches of "His Worshipful Shadow". His
Shadow is the
lord and ruler of the light zone, he is very old and transfers his
essence
to other host bodies so he may continue his rein. Kai, last of
the
Brunnen-G, was made into a walking dead Assassin for his shadow, but it
was
for told that one day the last of the Brunnen-G would destroy his
Shadow.
With the help of Stanley Tweedle ( a wimpy ex-employee of the Cluster
Planet), Zev ( a woman made half human and part cluster Lizard) and
Robot 790 ( the
head of a robot, that has a sex craving for Zev), all fly around space
in
the stolen ship of his Shadow, The LEXX. This show is very
unique, a
mixture of science, fantasy, sex and humor. Oddly enough it
works,
the show has a certain flair and the computer graphics, models and
music
helped to make this a very interesting show. The Original title
is
LEXX: The Dark Zone Stories, but in the states its called Tales From A
Parallel
Universe, why is that exactly?...I have no clue. I found the show
to
be a refreshing change from the usual Sci-fi, it was well planned out
and
very good. There is now a continuing TV series on now, but
unfortunately,
its not as good as the movies. The extreme low budget sets and
designs,
the writing is awful, and the sense of purpose of this idea has
withered
away to nothing. Boo to the producers, perhaps that's what
happens
when you combine German and canadian investing companies.
Manimal ( 1983 ) : Anyone remember this guy? With the power to change into any animal...he was....the Manimal. A snooty british professor named Jonathan Chase, that helped a pretty woman cop named Brooke chase down bad guys and maybe find a nice tree to pee on. Oh yah...this was another "Soooo 80's" moment in time. I barely remember this show, he had a vietnam buddy called Ty that pretty much had to help him out in every single episode. Boy they really must have been stretching for something new huh? Manimal?? "Quick, change into a penguin and attack!!"
Millennium ( 1996 - 1998 ) : Dark, gritty, horrifiying, funny, addictive.....the show centers around a man named Frank Black, who used to work for the FBI. He's recently been working for a group called, The Millennium Group, a secret band of agents that seem to have a hidden agenda that Frank finds un-nerving. He soon left their services, because of a plauge they new about killed his wife, they had an antidote, but only shared it with themselves and Frank ( without his knowledge ). What more can I say about this gripping morbid drama, the show occasionally peeks into the paranormal and is constantly looking into cults, religious doomsday events, and the devil himself. Frank has a power to see within the criminal mind, his thoughts are like an almost window through the killers eyes. The show was created by X-file man, Chris Carter, he just loves scaring the crap out of us for some reason. The show is a huge success and truely lives up to Chris's stamp of genius, not only is the theme music beautiful and haunting, but the cast really puts out a 100% effort into their roles. My advice? Get a big bowl of popcorn, turn the lights down, pump the volume up and get ready for an hour of terrifying, bump in the night, sitting home alone in the dark, bone chilling drama. BOO! Heheheheh
Update 2001 : Took me awhile to correct this, but Millennium was a
mediocre success.....the show was cancelled at the end of the 1998
year,
too bad, it rocked. But in 1999, the X - Files aired an episode
that
concluded the saga of Frank Black from Millennium, with the end of the
Century
being saved by him, Scully and Mulder. All's well that ends well.
Misfits of Science ( 1985 - 1986 )
: Welcome to Soooo 80's! The Superhero series about a group of
young mutants who worked for an
American think tank fighting crime, showing bad clothes and even trying
to be the futuristic X-Men. Elvin could shrink to a size of
eight inches, Gloria possessed telekinetic powers, and Johnny B was
able to fire lightning bolts from his hands. Their leader was Dr.
Hayes, who did nothing but sit on his butt looking real
concerned-like. Ah that was the time huh? This show had
potential though, dispite it's cheesy effects. The pilot episode
had another character they traveled with, a man called " The Iceman
". Guess what he did? Anyway they had to drive around in a
big ice cream truck just to keep him cool, but after the pilot aired,
they dropped his character faster then you could say "REJECT!".
But it turns out...they said the same thing about the show.
Misfits are sooo square, like ooh my god!
Mutant X ( 2001 - 2004 )
: Speaking of X-Men clones....here comes a series that rips them
off. Mutant X is about a group of special people with amazing
powers...A secret government project to create genetic mutants results
in them
being released into the general population. One of the scientists
responsible, Adam, has sworn to try and help them. But his former
co-partner Mason Eckhart, plans on using the project for his own
ends. Adam assembles four mutants and forms the group "Mutant X"
to stop Eckhart and save other mutant kind. Marvel has tried to
sue this show in the past, but seeing how the title and story
"tweeking" has just enough to slip by the courts...they're efforts to
cancel it have been denied. Ah well, I put the ending year on it
seeing how it's surly come to a final run. So sad...too bad.
M.A.N.T.I.S. ( 1994 )
: Mantis...man, where to begin. This show had great
potential for something terrific on TV...but the look and feel of it
made it sink into the depths of hell. Plus it was on FOX of all
stations...I think Married With Children was getting better ratings
then it at the time. The show was about a Afro-american man in a
wheel chair (after being crippled from a race riot that broke out in
the city...hmm...sound familiar?), fighting crime in an Exo-skeleton
suit that literally made him a superhero. I don't remember if it
got out many episodes...or even got past the pilot...but the show was
too cerebral to keep on a wild station like FOX. MANTIS should
have prayed for a better timeslot or even a better concept. But
oddly enough, one of the writers and co-creators of the project was
none other then Sam Raimi himself, the man who did The Evil Dead films
and made Spiderman spin his web onto the big screen!
- P -
Planet of the Apes (late 1970's)
- Not the movies, the tv show. It was made after the last movie
in
'74, the show was drab and not at all entertaining. An almost
copy
of the movies, it tried to pick up where they left off. Lets just
say
that the producers of the show, must have had bananas for brains.
- Q -
Quantum Leap (1987-1989)- A
family show in my view, but still was ok. The show about a 1997
time traveler who used a Quantum time machine on himself causing him to
leap in
and out of time using certain peoples bodies. With his stodgy
sexist holo pal Al to help him find his way through it all, it was
comedy and drama
all rolled into one. It was good entertainment and the show was
beginning
to build a cult following, but the NBC executives and the main star (
Scott
Bacula..if that's spelled correctly) had dis-agreements about the show,
and
money matters. So, Scott ended the whole thing and tried for a
movie
career instead. So Scott......what movies have you done?....hmmmm
Flops?
Each and everyone? Guess you should have sticked with the show
until
your status was a bit better huh Scott?
- R -
Red Dwarf (1988-1999 ) OH
SMEGS!! The usual saying of the crew of the doomed, wandering
ship called The Red Dwarf. A long running british comedy series
set in the distant future. A radiation leak kills the entire crew
except for David Lister, safe in deep cryofreezing in the lower decks,
he awakens three million years later to learn he's the only one on
board. But not for long...his dead roommate Arnold Rimmer, had
his brain downloaded into the holo-image computer and now returns to be
with Lister, a chicken soup machine repairman. Others also show
up and become part of the crew, Cat ( an evolved decendant of David's
cat), Holly the ship's computer, and Kryten, the service mechanoid.
They travel through the stars in an attempt to find the rest of
humanity and possibly make their way back home to Earth. Lost in
deep space they run into many silly and deadly encounters, with aliens,
disruptions in time, space disasters and listening to Rimmer rant on
and on about how filthy Lister is the most disgusting person he's ever
been stuck with. The ship really can't be controlled, no one
knows how to operate it, but they do get around with the shuttle that
looks more like a green bug. The show has had a cult following
for many years, it even tried to make a U.S. made version during the
90's....but that never even got off the ground. The british
version has gone on for many years...and even spawned into a new motion
picture due out any year now. Will the show carry into the
movies? It's certainly worth a try...but if it tanks...re-runs
will be the only thing it has left. That's just Smegging
wonderful isn't it?!
Robocop ( mid-1990's): If
there
is a god, please make them stop turning movies into tv shows, I mean
come
on, Robocop??? The show is soooooooo terrible words can't seem to
begin
to describe, like Total Recall 2070, this was made in Canada. For
some
reason we ( Canadians ) can't seem to develop a good show if our lives
depended
on it. I hope who ever got this assignment got a big " I told you
so"
from the finacial backers, Robocop is Obsolete.
Robocop: Prive Directives ( 2000
- 2001 )- The four part mini movie series is absolutely
the best TV made version of Robocop. Set many years later
after Robocop's
first appearance, the public has lost all interest in his presence, the
cops
consider him outdated and the corporation wants him shut down or
replaced.
His best friend John Cable is ambushed by a reprogrammed Robocop (
thanks
to cable's Ex wife...a shifty, backstabing executive in OCP corp.), He
is
then made into the new Robocop and made a pawn to her little
shcemes.
Robocop's son has joined the evil OCP empire and begins to discover the
secrets
of the company ( Mrs. Cable's secret plans to overthrow the
company,
another young executive who is also trying to gain power by using a
computer
that would control all of Delta City and the real events of his
father's
death ). Meanwhile, Robocop tries to stop them all from
destroying
civilization in Delta City, free his friend's mind from the same fate
he
was in , and restore his relationship with his son. WOW,
what
a stir pot of troubles for them all......and it makes a good story to
boot.
Its being made by a new company in Canada that has severed all ties to
the
old TV series and to some of the sequel movies. Its
gritty....dark....and
subliminally campy....just the way it ought to be. Based on the
best
selling novel of the same title, it has translated well into the tv
movies.......thank
god.
Roswell (2001 - 2003 ) Like
O My God! You're like a narley alien dude! Welcome to pure crap.
I swear the shows they come up with is ....ugh....too frustrating
to
even go on about. But, for this show.....its at the top of
just
plain ol' Alien-soap opera-pre-teen garbage. Three alien
teenagers
crash in Roswell and live out lives in the town while under the
constant
threat of being discovered by the Military and other enemy aliens
living
among us. I've got two words to sum this show up....Monkey Poo!
If
your into this show.....then you really must love Dawson Creek or even
Alley
McBeal. I hope they find those Alien Teenies, strap them to a
table
and give them all better haircuts for God's sake! I mean one of
them
looks like a Troll Doll !!

STAR TREK ( 1963-1966)-
On of the most ambitious series for american audiences, though by
today's standards its very campy style and look is very humorous, for
its day it was
seen as daring and unbelievable. The 23rd Century starship on its
"wagon
trail" to the stars. True, it was all action and some "set in the
time"
storylines, it did however touch on some key science facts and
theories. Captain Kirk was your typical hero, Mr. Spock the
logical right hand man, and Doctor McCoy " bones" was the medical
doctor that had to heal everyone and anyone that was hurt. Blend
it all in with short skirts, guys in
red shirts that get killed the minute they go off to explore, some
interesting time travel plots and its a series that producers had
wanted all along. The first Pilot of the series was made in 1959
with a not so familiar crew as we know today, but the suits thought it
was too cerebral. It dealt alot with telepathy, expensive sets,
and a female second officer ( a big no-no
back then). Only two cast members survived from its redesign:
Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock ( who was Mr. Spock in the first Pilot) and
Majal Barrett as "Nurse Chapel" ( who was the first officer "Number 1"
in the first Pilot).
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION ( 1987-1994) - Everyone missed the old star trek series, and since it was now a movie series, a gap needed to filled for those craving more star trek. So Gene Roddenberry set out to bring back the series he had wanted to do, but since he couldn't use the timeline of the first series, he decided to launch the new one in the 24th Century. With everyone in peace, klingons our new found friends and no trouble in site.....some had their doubts about its fate as well. But with the help of a french ( english speaking) Captain Jean Luc-Picard, a android Lt. Commander Data, a klingon Jg. Lt. Worf and a female doctor Beverly Crusher with her young intelligent son Wesley Crusher, this crew slowly began to grow on the viewers and Trekkers. With a mischievous entity called "Q", a return of Romulans, and a deadly race called the BORG, the show launched into success. The writing, effects, and the technical achievements where always winning emmys, but, the last show ( that had the highest rating in Star Trek history) ever broadcast got itself a nomination as Best Drama at the emmys. Proving that science fiction could be entertaining and informative, a new generation of Trekkers re-surged the popularity and made it the most watched ( and requested) series of all time.
STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE (1993-1999) - Before Gene Roddenberry's death in 1992, they had been discussing with Paramount Pictures to do another spin-off series. One that would take place on a alien space station on the frontier of space, not only that, but it would be near a massive wormhole( wormhole: a hole in space that connects to one part of space to another in the galaxy). The Idea was a risk once again, and so in January of 1993 Deep Space Nine aired. The reviews were mixed and the stories were almost drab, but after Star Trek: TNG left a year later, the writers all shifted over to Deep Space Nine. The writing got better and viewers became interested, now it has lasted 8 seasons and is now drawing to a close too, for what its worth, Deep Space Nine was almost as good as The Next Generation. WIth wormhole aliens, cardassian intrusions, and the continuing war with the Dominion from the other side of the wormhole, the show gradually got its fair shot at success.
STAR TREK: VOYAGER (1995- 2001)
- Now with Deep Space Nine over and done with, something has to fill
the coming
void of devoted fans, and with another spin-off what better way to lure
them
in. Voyager was the far fetch idea the producers had in mind,
taking
a starfleet vessel and flinging it into the other side of the galaxy
known
as: The Delta Quadrant. They took the story of a Lost In Space
kind of approach, having a federation crew and a maquie crew
purge into
one ( Maquie- a group of ex-federation citizens and officers that were
fighting against the Cardassians). The show started off slowly,
the villains
they made were too easy to beat and not very threatening, in fact the
shows ratings were so low that cancellation was looming over their
heads.
It wasn't until they started working the borg into their show, that
made
the ratings jump abit, the death of a few unwanted characters helped,
and
then a new crewmate joined the cast. She was Seven of Nine, a run
in
with the borg and helping them to defeat a powerful enemy of theirs,
Species
10872( that episode got the highest ratings ever since the show came
on).
Now struggling to find her humanity she has become a breath of fresh
air
to the shows success. A female Captain Janeway, a hologram doctor,
native american first officer Commander Chakotay, an insubordinate Lt.
Tom Paris ( Just been reduced in rank), a klingon chief engineer
B'lanna Torres and an alien Chef Neilix. The show ended with a
Borg/Time travel theme,
and although the show's plot was a bit shakey....it did manage to get
the
crew home and have a nice farewell ending. Now the time has come
for
a new series.......
STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE -
SEE THE ( E ) SECTION
Starhunter ( 2002 - current )
- The year is 2275, and man has colonized the solar system, Earth is
now the weaker of all settlements. There are three powerful
Federations, The Mars Federation, The Jupiter Federation and The Saturn
Federation. Space inbetween them all is full of Criminals, Pirates, and
Bounty Hunters. The show is about a band of bounty hunters aboard the
space frieghter, The Tulip. They deal with every scum in the
three federations and take on every kind of dangerous mission they're
assigned too. But through it all they manage to salvage whatever
morals they have left...even if it costs them their very lives.
The show has been on for some time and while it doesn't have the
strongest of followings, it's still a fairly decent show compated with
likes of Gene Roddenberry's Andromada. If your into that sci fi
low budget ( but nice looking CGI graphics ) tv show types...then this
show might be for you. Personally....I'm no fan of it. But
hey thats me right?
Space:1999 (1975-1976)-
At a time when tv studios where craving for something new, one show
came
that no one seemed to know what to do with. Space:1999 was a big
flop,
the colony on the moon that was blasted out into space, met with
strange
alien creatures and faint hopes of returning home to earth. With ships
that
looked like floating scaffolding ( or some would say they looked like
white
ants), characters that you couldn't seem to care about, and guest
appearances that made no difference in the show, this is one limited
series that should be locked away forever. And for the record,
yes I did watch it when
I was young, but that time has come and gone.....much like the show.
Space Above and Beyond (1995-1996)
- a short lived series, it was created by the co-producer of X-files,
and well....it was a good shot. The series followed a group of
young cadets in military training to their assigned ship service.
They were in a
war with alien creatures only known to the earth people as "chiggs" ( a
racial slur for them), but as the battle carried on, so did their
meaningless character
development and boring stories. The concept was good but the
actors
and writers were weak. The series ended with a big "what if "
kind of
story, I guess if he ever feels the need to bring the show back, he can
pick
up where he left off......but why?
Seven Days ( 1998 - 2001 )
: A sort of Space/X-file/Outerlimits show, the stories are supposed to
be events that occur within the span of a week, I dunno about that. I
have rarely
caught the show, but when I do ( on nights where there is nothing else
on
) the show is rather lame. No real interesting characters, no bulk to
story
plots, it just goes on and on like a bad B-flick. I recommend you skip
the
7 days and use them on something else.
Strange Worlds ( or Days..I forget )
(1998- 1999): If the outer limits and X-files are a
running theme here, I wish the people who make these "clone like shows"
get better ideas. Not only is this the worst, and most failed attempt
to grab some sci-fi fans,
it is by far the worst thing the tv network ( ABC ) has come up with
yet.
The only thing Strange about this show is how it managed to get
approval for
production.
Stargate SG-1(1997-current)
: Ok, ok....how many times do I have to say it, stop making movie tv
shows!! This is so awful I won't even give it a discription, let
me put it this way,
if you've ever seen the movie.....this is ten times worst. Its
bad enough
they've got Richard Dean Anderson in it, but they also seem to have the
worst
make up and special effects I've ever witnessed. Do yourself a
favor
and just rent the movie. UPDATE 2005: The show is still going and looks
like not only is the writing improving, but so too is the special
effects...the fans have truly kept this show afloat and made it grow to
something that not even I would have expected. But I still say the
alien guy looks like he's sporting a cresent roll on his forehead.
Stargate: Atlantis ( 2004 - Current ) - Wow...it got a spin off? For those of you that do enjoy the Stargate SG-1 series, this must be the all time next best thing. A splinter group of scientists and military now patrol the Pegasus Galaxy and encounter a deadly new enemy called, The Wraith. What like ring wraiths? From Lord of the Rings or something? Well not being a fan of this show, nor the spin off...I have caught the odd glimpse of it when it was on. The show is impressive and the graphics have enhanced since it's predecessor (which is now also improving in quality.) Yes, I said it...the show isn't too bad. The franchise has a huge following (More so then Battlestar Galactica) and continues to show that fans really do have power in keeping something like this going. So enjoy all you die hard fans of Stargate...it seems you've proved me wrong in predicting the life span of this franchise. Kudos.
Sliders ( mid-1990's)-
The show is unique, but full of flaws, come on how many worlds are all
gonna look like the 90's?? The show started off pretty good, a
young scientist finds a way to travel to many different dimensions of
earth, and had professor , his girlfriend and an unknown singer join
him has he leaped through worlds. The show had good ratings for
awhile, then lagged well into the season, but
began to boost itself with better writing. But like the yo-yo
series it is, it began to sag again. The show was canceled by its
owner FOX
TV, but has recently been reborn thanks to the Sci-fi channel and the
(limited) fans. I still don't care to see it.
Smallville ( 2001 - current )
- Superman's Creek....well thats what they may have just as well called
it. The show is about the " Early years " of the man...sorry..boy of
steel,
this time before supes' even knows about his amazing powers. Set in his
hometown of Smallville, Lana Lang ( his highschool sweetheart ), Lex
Luthor
( before he becomes the evil millioniare bent on destroying Superman ),
the
younger kent parents and Clark all make the bulk of the show. Clark
Kent
and his friends have life lessons, with the back set of some odd things
and
adventures during thier " Growing Years ". The show seems Dawson
Creek-y
with a smidge of Roswell to it, its really great to watch and if you
understand
the world that Clark comes from then it really will entertain you, it
looks
like it might do good for awhile.....but the show may not beable to fly
too
far down the road should it run out of bullets to shoot off him. Sorry
Clark...but
I do here there's an opening at the Daily Planet....just ask for Lois.
SHAZAM! ( 1974 - 1977 ) - The other title it's known to be under is The SHAZAM / ISIS Power Hour, A combined 30min. showcase of both Captian Marvel and Isis: The Egyptian Princess. Billy Batson is a boy with a special duty in life. Accompanied by his Mentor, he travels from place to place in a Winnebago learning about life and helping people along the way. When the situation is heading for disaster, all he has to do is to yell the magic word, SHAZAM! and call down the magic lightning that transforms him into the World's Mightiest Mortal, Captain Marvel. You want hammy performances? A couple of guys riding around in a RV? Then this was the show for you...I faintly remember watching this one as a kid, but thank god I can't remember it really. Just chalk it up as another "dear god what the hell were we thinking back then" moments. Isis isn't even worth mentioning...she did the same thing Capt did...only she'd summon her Egyptian godesses to make her superpowerful. Uh huh....Riiiight. Thank god the 70's are long gone.
Spiderman (1977) - Oh yes my friends, well before Tobey Maguire put on the Spidey duds there was a '70s version of him. Actor Nicholas Hammond was the lead of that very short lived live actions series. The utlra-low budget effects and production values made this a terrible loss for CBS, that will teach them saving a buck or two on that does have a price to pay. This Spiderman was pretty much trying to be the Peter Parker of the comic books, but he wasn't always heading back to the news room in New York...infact...he was out in LA. Huh? If you remember the show like I did (oh man I'm old), then you too saw the wires pulling him up the side of the building as he climbed, the ultra-cheesy rope web he kept shooting out and lets not forget (although we should) ninjas would be fighting Spiderman. Now that whole LA thing makes sense...I mean where else would you find ninjas right? I think we should leave this one in the '70s and just thank our stars for this new Spiderman we have in the 21st Century.

Total Recall 2070 ( 1999 )
: Upside...no Arnold....bad side...it has nothing to do with the
title. This show is supposed to be based
more from the short story of writer Philip K. Dick, the man who wrote "
Do Androids Dream Electric Sheep?", which was turned into the cult
movie " Blade Runner". This show is nothing like Total Recall
which is sad really, because the show
has nothing going for it except for its over use of computer
graphics. It tries too much to be Blade Runner, which is what its
not supposed to resemble,
it was supposed to be TOTAL RECALL. The producers thought this
show was going to be a great success, I guess the very poor ratings
showed them it wasn't, the show
is
awful. Bad acting, terrible scripts, and why is everyone an
android? I suggest you miss this show and hope that you don't get
any total recall from it.
TimeTunnel ( Mid-1960)-
Nice concept, bad writing. The show that followed a couple of
guys
trapped in time was mediocre, it might have been too much for people to
understand then, with all the western shows on at that time ( which
were very popular of that day) no one cared for time travel. They
tried to bring the
audience in by showing some old west episodes, some Titanic episode,
and
some prehistoric episodes. But the show didn't last long, a good
couple
of years, but it was beyond anyone's grasp at the time.
Transformers (1984 - 1987)
- More than meets the eye, they're robots in disguise! Wow, my
favorite cartoon of all time, the Transformers were the flavor of the
decade.
Optimus Prime, Leader of the Autobots, fought endlessly at Megatron,
Leader
of the evil Decepticons. Crashing on earth millions of years ago
from
their homeworld of Cybertron, the battle became relived as they awoke
in
1984 with fragile creatures living on the planet known as humans.
The
Autobot / Decepticon war would last for years, then came the big screen
Motion Picture ( which did almost nothing at the boxoffice, but then
again, a lot
of toons did at that time), and then they battled in the distant
future....2005. They show was a hit until the movie came out,
after that the show slowly declined.
The last show made was the about the rebirth of Optimus Prime ( who was
killed
in the movie), needless to say...that sucked. The show was
my
Icon, a show I could not miss ever! I still love Transformers to
this
very day, not so much for the toys anymore......well, maybe a
little...heehee, I find the movie was a classic and all of the episodes
pure treasure. They have returned in the 90's, a computer
generated version called Beasties ( or Beast Wars in the USA), but to
get a review on that one, go up and see
it on the "B" column.
"Autobots....Transform and roll out!!"
Transformers : Robots in Disguise (
2001 - 2002 )- They have returned.....or is
it....they've been
Re - Imagined. The Japanese creator has brought the show back and
this
time has tried to bring them into the 21 Century to explain them to a
new
young audience. But the only problem with that is.....the show is
awful.
No longer are there any Decepticons....only Autobots vs. the
Predicons.
Megatron ( Leader of the Predicons ) is now a big six changing Flying
hand........Optimus
Prime ( Leader of the Autobots ) is a fire engine that combines with
Ultra
Magnus, a big rig of some sort, to turn into Omega Prime ( ultimate
leader
of the Autobots). The show's writing is childish, clumsy and has
a
dialogue that sounds like it came from a bad B-Movie. The
Transformation
sound is still there from the original, but the characters are 2
dimensional
and a big disappointment. The show is certainly aimed at real
young
kids.......even the new toys are awful and non-challenging. I
hope
you die hard fans never see even a glimpse of this crap given to
us.....cause
your heart would just break from what they have done to screw up
something
that has become an icon of our childhood days.
Transformers: Armada ( 2002 - 2004
): Here we go again. Thanks to the new comic book
made
by Dreamwave Productions, the Transfomers are living legends again.
So
here comes a new animated series about those robots in disguise, only
this
time it has nothing to do with the other Robots in Disguise show
mentioned
above. This is about Optimus Prime and Megatron battling it out
on
earth for the renagade Transfomers that can transfom into small engines
or
vehicles that could boost the Autobots or Decepticons powers. Not only
that....it
gives them a brand new look. Obviously the Toy franchise is
hoping
this will be the second coming for Hasbro....but from what I'm hearing
about
the show.....don't bet your Soundwave on it. The comic book is
doing
awesome business and looks fantastic........but my sources are telling
me
that the animated series looks about as bad as the above mentioned "
Robot
in Disguise " series. Thats not good. I really wonder who
is
in charge of this garbage...I'd sick Ravage on him or her so
fast....that
they'll be praying for death. Come back Oh Generation One
Transfomers!!
PLEAAAASSSEEE! I can't take this anymore!!! Wahhhhhhhhhh!!!
Transformers: Energon ( 2004 - 2005):
Straight off of Armada comes the next evolution in
Transformer's new universe spin. Now that Unicron has stirred up
trouble, the Decepticons and Autobots begin a new search for Energon
and....apparently.....New robotic forms. Megatron has now become
Galvatron and Optimus Prime has become.....well....Optimus Prime, but
in a new " Combiner " form. This show is getting worst and
worst....the new fans of this generation seem to love this crap, while
the older Generation One fans ( like myself ) are shaking their heads
at it and taking it for what it is....monkey poo! I still do not
see it being any better then the G1 days....the fact that it has taken
good characters and made them into watered down punks for this new
series is appauling. I'm much rather looking forward to the
new live action movie being made, it will focus mainly on the G1 robots
and story....perhaps then the younger kids will wake up and see what a
real Transformer should be like!
Transformers: Cybertron ( 2005 - Current
)
Well we all knew Energon was coming to an end....eventually (Although
we wondered with all that Unicron/Megatron nonsense). Now
comes the next (sigh) installment in this "re-imagined" series.
In Japan it will be called "Galaxy Force" and if you think this series
is going to be any better...don't hold your breath. I've seen a
few pictures of the toys...and the designs for the characters. If
I didn't like the last two series, I sure as hell ain't going to break
my way of thinking now. Oh come on Live Action G1 movie....hurry
up and get here already!! This Pokemon-Yi Gi Oh version of TF's
is killing me!! UPDATE FEB 2005: The show is a bit better then the
previous incarnation...but still very stiff in performance. This really
has no signs of getting better, good as it is, I think we could see
this one run out of steam a bit faster then Energon. I just wish they'd
stop putting in more annoying brats into them. At least when you saw
Spike Witwicky...you didn't hope for a Decepticon to stomp the crap out
of him.
The Tick (2001 - 2002 ) - Spooooooon! I loved the cartoon...the comic was funny......but the live action show.....leaves much to be desired. Sorry big man in blue, but your show writing ( not to mention your crappy 1/2 hour of a time slot...come on man...thats not enought time to hear the slight in jokes inbetween the witty chatter ) leaves him feeling flat. The Tick is very funny on his own, still has his cheesy one liners, but his cast is not the same. The orginal crew has been altered to worthless characters: American Maid is now Captain Liberty, Dieflauter Maus is now Bat Manuel ( say what now??) and Arthur....well ....he's still the same. The show is very very short on comedy and riding the bran muffin rollercoaster of pure camp. The show was a complete failure and its not too hard to see why. The characters were not as they are in the comic book ( with the exception of Tick and Arthur ) and lack of special effects didn't grab our attentions enough to sit there and wonder what was going on Ally McBeal..yeesh! I recommend that you all rent the cartoon series, it was far more hilarious and well written then this one.
The Twilight Zone ( 2002 - 2003 )
- Your about to enter a tv series thats been remade a number of times,
full of copied or non imaginative ideas....your about to enter The
Twilight Zone. There was a remake back in the late '80's - 90's, and
this new incarnation is at least a little better then those. Of course
the Original Twilight Zone back in the 1960's was something they'll
never be able to duplicate, the stories were much better and obviously
better writting. Nobody could do a Zone show like the late Rod
Sterling, he had many ideas about various dimensions and freaky
possiblities. Forrest Whittaker ( sorry if I spelled the name wrong )
is the host of the new series, and I wish he would stop trying to act
as if he's copying Rod's traits. So far I'm unimpressed with what the
stories bring, I see no originality, no planning in the way the story
is presented or set up and there doesn't even seem to be any real
segway into each half hour story ( seeing how the show is an hour long
now ). I will keep my hopes up...but I think that the show will end up
like the others.....as Rod would say, " just another drop in the
bucket....in the Twilight Zone ". UPDATE 2004: I was right...the
show sucked. Now it's back into the void from wence it
came...That second stop to the right, known only as...The Twilight Zone.
The Dead Zone ( 2003 - current )
- " I can see things before they can happen! " Yep you sure can, and in
this tv version of Stephen King's novel a whole series has been based
on that book. Starring Anthony Micheal Hall ( from the John Hughes
movies ) he is Johnny Smith, a man that was given extreme powers of
clairvoyance from the result of a car crash. After waking up from a six
year coma, he finds that life for him has changed, not only because of
this new power, but news that his mother has been long gone now, his
girlfriend has married and had a child. Looking to find a reason for
his life....he now uses his gifts to help others and solve deadly
murders. The show is fantastic, and Anthony is the best one they've
cast for the lead role. The effects are terrific and the writing is
very good. I foresee this show will be around for awhile.....but if
you've seen the original movie ( that starred Christopher Walken ) or
read the book, you know how this series will evenually have to end on.
The Six Million Dollar Man ( 1973 - 1978 )
: Bah-da-da-daaaa da da da...Colonel Steve Austin, astronaut and test
pilot, is badly injured when he crashes while testing an experimental
aircraft. A covert government agency (OSI) is willing to pay for
special prosthetics to replace the eye, arm and both legs he lost in
the crash. Highly advanced technology (Bionics) built into them will
make him faster, stronger and better than normal. In return they want
him to become a covert agent for the OSI. It will cost $6,000,000 to
rebuild Steve Austin. This was based on the book by Martin Caidin
called " CYBORG ", about a man that is transformed into a scientific
miracle after the use of Bionic technology. I loved this show as
a kid, as did many others growing up in the 70's, Steve Austin was our
hero. The show had simple plots and repetitive situations....but
who cares! Go Steve Go! The other titles given where The
Bionic Man or Cyborg: The Six Million Dollar Man, it even had a couple
of spin off series like The Bionic Woman (*-Listed) and the Bionic Boy
(which never got picked up as a series. The Pilot only.).
There was even a few TV movies....to name them: Return of the Six
Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (1987), Bionic Showdown: The
Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (1989) and Bionic Ever
After? (1994). Now word has come that The Six Million Dollar Man
will be made into a motion picture, a comedy spoof starring Jim Carey
no less. 2005 is the target date for this movie's release and
well...so much for making a serious movie of this beloved
classic. Typical of hollywood isn't it?
The Bionic Woman ( 1975 - 1978 )
: Steve Austin happens by chance to reunite with, Jamie Sommers, his
childhood love who is now a tennis pro. Their relationship is renewed
and things look bright for the both of them. However, that soon changes
when the pair go skydiving and Jamie suffers a serious accident that
permanently cripples most of her limbs and an ear. Desperately, Steve
Austin begs his boss, Oscar Goldman, to equip Jamie with the same
bionic implants he himself received. Goldman agrees and has Jamie
outfitted with two legs, a right arm and an artificial ear. Now Jamie
must come to terms with the fact she not can function normally, but the
implants also give her incredible strength and speed while her ear can
detect nearly any sound regardless of distance, volume or frequency.
Unfortunately, there are unforseen consequences as well to this boon
that place her in the kind of danger from which there seems to be no
escape. Now she works as a secret agent hidden as a school
teacher. Woooo....sounds gripping don't it? This was the
first spin off of The Six Million Dollar Man in order to cater to the
female viewers, and believe it or not....it worked. The series
was as typical as the SMDM series, she'd save lives, encounter
dangerous people, go on secret missions and even met an alien kid
princess who had special powers ( a very young Helen Hunt). When
SMDM bottomed out and got cancelled so did this series as well.
But what could be more fitting then know that this was the series that
introduced the break through character of the year....The Bionic
Dog. I kid you not.
The Batman ( 2004 - Current )
: The Animated Series is back...sort of. A new spin on the origin of
Batman comes alive on this retelling of how the Bat began, slick
gadgets and introductions to the villains again is going to be a hard
thing to keep up with for Bruce Wayne, young executive of his family
company. The animation isn't too bad, some of the designs for the
villains are interesting...but not the Joker..I hate the Joker's damn
look. Not only that, but the guy doing his voice sounds too much like
he's trying to copy Mark Hammil's Joker (Batman:TAS/BB/Justice League).
The writing is very weak and the plots very uninspired...naturally this
is for kids to watch, but at least Paul Dini and Bruce Timm
(Batman:TAS/BB/Justice League) gave the adults something to enjoy too.
I don't see this one lasting as long as the previous ones, perhaps they
just need to get better writers and make the animation flow a bit
better (And re-design that damn Joker!). But this show is
watchable...but you won't miss much if you forget to view it every now
and then. The Baaaat-man (Thank you Edge of U2 for doing the music).
- V -
V.R. 5 (1995)- lots of 5's
lately? Anyway, the very, very short lived show dealt with a girl
that used Virtual Reality and uncovered a conspiracy of
sorts......uhmm, this is
too lame to go on about. It was bad...it never took off, although
I thought I saw it on one of the special channels, but I could be
wrong.
V ( 1984 - 1985 )- The
1980's sure brougt out alot of tripe for us to swallow, both the TV
movies
and series of V was some of them. It was about a bunch of flying
saucers
landing on earth, aliens that looked like us, promised to bring us
technology
and riches that would benifit us all. Boy were we a bunch of
suckers.
The aliens turned out to be hideous carnivores, bend on taking over the
world and using us as food, geez, there goes the
neighborhood...literally!
The movie lured us into the begining and a major battle that made us
victors ( hence the title: V - Victory ), but a series soon followed
that was make us sick of those damn aliens and their eating
habits. The tele-movies were a huge success, but the series
became trashy and mundane. Odds
are, if you ask someone if they remember V? They'd look at you
and
say......" V what? "
V ( 2005 or 2006 ? )- Looks like the 80's revitalization
is still chugging away. Yes there is a new set of Mini-Series
Movies heading our way and if they do a good enough job...we could be
back in the V zone again. Plans are to either bring the
series back where it left off or just re-make the whole thing over
again. Yeah sure....just like they did with Battlestar Galactica
right? Set your eyes to " Roll ".
Wonder Woman (1975 -1979) - Get up off that thing Wonder
Woman!! Lynda Carter...mmm...even as a small boy...I still had a
huge crush on this woman. She was beautiful, sexy, and could tie
me up any day to tell the truth. Uh...oh yeah...back to the
review. Although Lynda's WW was not the first TV attempt made (1974 TV
movie with Cathy Lee Crosby), the 1975 pilot TV movie did get
better reviews and attention as they set her character back in the
1940's. That soon got updated to the 1970s so that Princess Diana
of Themyscira (The Amazonian Island) could fight modern day crooks and
have many adventures as the scantily dressed Wonder Woman as she helps
Washingon in the fight to stop evil doers. In the disguise as a
military secretary she would soon spin around to become Wonder Woman
and make all men lick the TV sets as she transformed into hot, female
yummy-ness. The show had it's highs and lows...certainly the
stories where rather tame and pointless, but as the years continued on
for this series, it just wore itself out and Lynda Carter as
well. She was not longer happy being this Woman of Wonder and so
too where the fickle fans who soon dropped her like a bad plate of
shrimp. It wouldn't be until the likes of the animated series
Justice League in 2002 before we'd get to see Wonder Woman return in
all her leggy glory again. Tell me, is it wrong for a grown man
to have the hots for a toon character? Stop nodding yes.
- X -
The X-Files (1992-2002)-
Conspiracy
gone mad, the X-Files is a show that all people can seem to get into,
to
know what the government is hiding from us all. The show is about
two
FBI agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, they collect and search for the
strange,
the paranormal and aliens for the main Bureau of the FBI. The
show
seems to be geared for the those who live on fears and wonders of our
physique,
often they would find aliens and monsters, but seem to find one
conspiracy
after another. The show started of with a slow success and soon
gained
momentum after winning a few Emmys, the writing became better and
merchandising
became its biggest cashflow. The show is good at times, but not
always,
I find the writers slack off every now and then for what I call stupid
stories.
I don't always feel that way, I am generally a good fan of it like so
many
others, and find it to be a good watch. I'm not sure If I would
call
this a science fiction show, but since it involves aliens...why
not.
The show has spawned one successful movie, and the show has now come
full
circle to its end. Another movie is planned and spin offs look highly
unlikely,
the much hyped " Lonegunmen " show failed miserably, so any hopes of
another
are dead. Still the show has lasted a very long time, with screams,
chills,
aliens, satanic cults and all. It fed our much over scenced imagination
and gave us all a reason not to sleep at night....and most of all not
to
trust anyone.
The Truth Is Out There.
ZIXX (2005 - Current) -
Finally...a show to put in my 'Z' column! Zixx is an Intergalatic
Network agent who has crash landed onto Earth with her partner Flanngo.
Flanngo?? I almost thought that said Flamingo. As luck would have it,
Earth also happens to be a hotbed of activity for the evil Onccalon and
the Hargokk Empire. Zixx has no intention of letting him win, so she
and Flanngo need to find a way to access the Network and make sure they
can get to the next level of the Keep before Onccalon's henchmen do.
M'kay...This is a show for kids for sure. Two little
brats...er...children trying to be heroes. I think I can safetly say
that I have very little interest in this show. Kids may like it
for the non-stop graphical elements that seem to be bland and
repetitve...but not me. Zixx on outta here!
