The Usual Disclaimers: All Fushigi Yuugi characters belong to Yuu Watase, Flower Comics, and the others that I am not aware of. . I don't own any of these FY characters, so please don't sue me! I'm only a poor 13-year old and I'm writing this for plain entertainment purposes. Ki'ori belongs to me, and in case you want to use her for some really strange reason, feel free to do so, just give me a sentence of credit? Domo Arigatou! Spoiler Warnings: There ARE spoilers in this fic (of course) from volume 51-52 of Fushigi Yuugi. If you don't like spoilers, please don't continue! Spoilers about Nakago's life and his past?
And the Author's Weirdo ratings: Um, there's blood at the bottom part? Viewer's discretion?
More Author's ramblings: Please don't kill me for writing this fic, I just had to get it out of my system! This doesn't quite follow the anime/manga storyline so bear with me? It's actually an alternate ending or whatever you wish to call it, but I felt like I had to write one? It's about time I wrote something about Nakago ^_^ This is a rewritten version of the original one, since the original one was awfully pathetic. So please bear with me. I'm still improving ^_- This fic is also my *ahem* belated birthday present to the cute and handsome Seiryuu Seishi, Nakago. This fic may be old, but it's rewritten. Would it count? All flames are directed to my daemon please, Dan. ^_- Hehehe.
Special Thanks To: Special thanks to Arcina for pre-reading this!!!!
And finally, I'm shutting up
now Enjoy the fic anyhows, minna-san

~I've Been Waiting
Tamahome slashed a fist towards Nakago, beads of sweat and blood poured down the sides of his face. Smirking, Nakago waved aside the fist and moved away with the speed of light, the kokoro on his forehead flashing a luminiscent shade of blue.
He was invincible, he knew that.
His thoughts wandered then. Even without Seiryuu, he was a god. Mortal, but yet with the powers of one matching a god. Getting that wish to be a god from Yui-sama would be out of the question now. She had given that wish to Suzaku no Miko, she had given that girl the power to summon Suzaku once again.
"Moron," he muttered under his breath.
He would take his revenge. Killing the emperor of Kutou wasn't enough; it didn't lift the dull ache in his chest every time he looked at the mirror. He would always be different, he couldn't change who he was, and he couldn't change the fact that he was the only one left who was like him. He couldn't bring the dead back to the living, either.
The swishing sound of Tamahome's foot broke into his thoughts. Nakago delivered a swift kick towards his jaw, Tamahome fell to the floor with a resounding thud. The blue battle aura that enveloped him intensified as he readied to finish the Suzaku Seishi off. His mouth twitched into a smirk. The kokoro gleamed--
"KAI-JIN!"
Before Nakago knew what was going on, Suzaku no Miko was on her feet. She lifted a scroll high into the air, screaming. Screaming for Suzaku.
"I wish...I wish for Seiryuu to be sealed!" she shouted.
The smirk on Nakago's face vanished. The kokoro vanished as well. He tried to move away as quickly as possible before Tamahome's fist came barraging deep into his flesh--
"Oni-chan, it's time."
He froze before he could move away. That voice, he thought. That voice he hadn't heard in years. Ki'ori. He forced his thoughts back to the incoming Seishi--
"Oni-chan. Please come home."
Tamahome's fist hit flesh.

Soldiers were everywhere. It wouldn't be long before they would reach their house, they had to escape before the soldiers came. His left hand clung on to his mother's arm, while the right one held on to his sister. His mother reached for the handle of the wooden door--
The soldiers burst in.
Chaos broke out. His mother started screaming. His sister broke free and started screaming too, and disappeared. He was left in the center, watching the soldiers grab his mother roughly and started dragging her away.
"Run."
It was too much to take. "Okasaan!!!" he screamed, a burst of blue light emanated from him. Silence. Everyone lay still, unmoving. And in the center of the room, his mother. Still, like the rest of them.
He was alone now.
"O..Oni-chan..." came a soft trembling whisper. A lone figure crept out from beneath the bed, a trembling hand emerging from beneath the sheets that had fallen onto the floor. A small cry of joy emerged from his lips, running towards his younger sister trembling within the folds.
"Ki'ori, you're alive!" he exclaimed happily, hugging her tightly. Ki'ori hugged him back just as tightly, tears streaming down her cheeks. They hugged each other for a few precious moments, each relieved that they had each other, and they weren't alone. He kissed Ki'ori's brow. "I'll stay with you forever, I promise," he vowed, stroking his sister's back, and wiping away the tear stains on her cheek.
Soldiers burst in once more.
"Get away!" he screamed, tightening his hold on his sister. A soldier yanked him away from her, grabbing him from behind. Roughly. He desperately cried out for help, crying out for someone to save his sister. Ki'ori was dragged away, tears flowing down her cheeks once again. His hands reached out, desperately. "Ki'ori....." he cried out hoarsely.
"ONI-CHAN!!!!!!!!!!" she shrieked out, struggling against the tight grip of the soldier.
"KI'ORI!!!!!!!!!"

"Nakago..." Tamahome said softly, his eyes shining with sorrow. "I never knew...."
"Please...let me die now," Nakago muttered, refusing to let Tamahome withdraw his hand.
Tamahome saw more.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
An older Nakago walked through the empty palace halls. His footsteps echoing throughout the dimly-lit hallway. To his surprise, another set of footsteps joined his own, nearing. He was immediately on alert, since no one during this time of night would be roaming the palace halls, save for him. 'It could be an enemy, for all I know', he thought. The footsteps grew nearer. 'But it can't be a man, the footsteps are too light to be a man's,' he debated. A lone figure approached, and to Nakago's surprise, the person was blond. 'Blond? It can't be', he thought. It was a woman, walking alone through the palace halls.
He quickly intercepted her. "What are you doing here at this time of night?!"
The woman quickly looked up, fear etched into her blue eyes. "I'm s..sorry...I couldn't sleep and I..."
'Blue. Blue eyes.' It can't be, he thought, filled with an overwhelming desire to scream out his sister's name. 'It can't be'. Thoughts raced through his mind. He reached out to comfort the shaking woman, brushing a hand through the blond tresses that framed her face.
"I'm sorry sir...it won't happen again," she vehemently apologized, still shaking.
'Only one way to find out'. He reached out and brushed the hair away from her neck. His eyes widened as he saw the tiny mark he used to tease his sister about. A birthmark. 'It IS her'.
"Ki'ori."
The young woman's eyes widened. "Who...who are you?"
"Your brother."
"Oni-chan...Oni-chan!!" she exclaimed, embracing Nakago. "Is it really you?"
"Mmm...honto no Ki'ori...it's you all right," he muttered, holding her close. "You've grown to be so beautiful," he said, stroking the softness of her cheeks, 'I'll never let go now', he silently vowed.
"Oni-chan...I've missed you so much...aishiteru," she whispered against his ear.
They held on to each other tightly. For the last time.
From within the dark shadows of the Imperial Palace lurked the assassin. His kill would be easy--Nakago. The moment he waited for to strike had come. Now. While the shogun was busy with the woman. Uttering a low battle cry, the assassin flew from within the shadows, towards the blond shogun, sword in hand.
'One thrust, it'll be over. I'll be rich. The blood on my sword will prove everything', he thought with satisfaction.
He didn't expect the woman to intervene, either.
Ki'ori placed herself in front of her brother, staring straight at the astonished assassin. Before Nakago could react, the long blade sliced through her flesh, and blood spurted out, trailing through the long end of the knife, and down her lips.
Nakago let out a loud cry of outrage. He quickly caught his sister's falling body, limp and lifeless. He was shaking, and he was scared. He didn't want her to die. He watched her cling on to the last few threads of her life, her moans of pain cutting through his heart. He couldn't save her. He watched her die.
"I'm sorry...I couldn't protect you..." he whispered.
Blue aura had gathered around him, his forehead gleaming his seishi symbol. "DIE!!" he bellowed, raising his hand and projected a large amount of ki. The assassin let out a howl of pain, disintegrating within the blue-white fires of Nakago's power. He was gone within a matter of seconds. All was left was the jeweled sword, encrusted with the blood of his sister.
He cradled her. "Sayonara, imouto," he choked. That day he made a vow.
He vowed to be invincible.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Nakago died with a smile.
Tamahome looked at the ground, feeling a slight twinge of shame. He hadn't known...he should've known before he killed him. He stared at Nakago's limp body on the ground, his features scrunched up into a smile. I should've known first...
"Don't blame yourself. You couldn't have known," came a female voice.
Tamahome turned around, tears of sadness flowing down his cheeks. His eyes widened at the sight of the blonde woman standing behind him. No...it's a spirit. She's dead, he thought as he recognized who she was. "Nakago no...imouto...?"
Her spirit glided towards the limp body, bending down towards his ear. "Oni-chan...it's time to get up."
Gasps emerged from everyone's lips as his spirit materialized beside the female soul.
"Nakago...yokatta," Tamahome mumbled softly.
"Okaeri, oni-chan..." Ki'ori whispered and took her brother's hand.
The words floated out into the darkness, as the two souls faded into the dark sky.
