VIII. Armor
The armor on the MS-15 is a low-mass lunarium titanium composite plating developed by the TMR as a cheaper alternative to Gundarium known as Gundarium Alpha. Aside from the superb protection provided against projectiles, missiles, and other kinetic weapons, this armor is also fairly resistant to plasma globes (annihilation discs), lasers, and to a lesser extent, particle guns too, owing to the fact that the armor can flake off and evaporate in layers under fire from such high-energy weapons, taking much of the weapon's energy and converting it into the latent heat of sublimation in the armor. The armor stops all small arms fire, and has good resistance to all weapons commonly mounted on combat mecha. This new armor is also much lighter than most armors weighing a full two thirds less than the traditional armor's mounted on mecha, but unlike its Terran counterpart, this version is much easier to manufacture and therefore much cheaper costing as much as regular armor.
The Qubeley provides full protection from nuclear, biological, and chemical hazards, using an overpressure cockpit environment activated by radiation and hazardous chemical sensors, or manually when biological warfare conditions are anticipated. The internal consumables supplies can provide atmosphere for three days maximum.
IX. Development
Following the successful deployment of the first psycommu unit, the MA-01 Elmeth in 2050, the Tirolian Republican Guard had sought to miniaturize the system for use in more cheaply produced mobile suits. While the initial research into the the miniaturization process took only until 2051, it wasn't until mid 2053 until the training process required to train those with latent 'newtype' abilities was refined to allow a more mass produced psycommu mecha to be deployed.
In 2053, Zeonic was acquired by Axis and therefore when time came to design the suit, the TMR approached Axis. Using the venerable MS-14 as a base, the MS-15's development proceeded quickly. Starting development in 2053, the first prototype was ready by late 2054. During tests the suit, piloted by ace pilot (and later Senator) Haman Khan, performed incredibly demonstrating an ability to wipe out vast groups of both drone and manned targets with ease. This one suit easily had the potential to be as powerful as 10 older mobile suits. It was ordered into immediate production with the first combat ready unit reporting for duty by the end of 2054. Featuring a large set of wing binders on its shoulders to assist in AMBAC (Active Mass Balance AutoControl), the MS-15 carried a pair of dual-purpose tachyon cannons/tachyon sabers for close combat and a tail binder containing a set of funnels, a smaller and cheaper version of the Elmeth's bits. These small remote weapons, while still armed with a tachyon cannon and thrusters for movement, were powered by an energy cap system which required recharging aboard the Qubeley after a certain amount of time.
The first combat duty seen by the MS-15 Qubeley, as it was called, was not until 2057 when the Neld Zentraedi began attacking the local group. Though hopelessly outnumbered in many situations, the MS-15 held its own and was crucial to the defense of Tirol in 2057 when the Neld attempted to sack the capital. The only flaw of the mobile suit was the lack of any close range weaponry. While the dual purpose tachyon saber/cannons were there, they lacked any sort of heavy punch. So work began on the new MS-15G. The MS-15G would be identical to the MS-15B except for the addition of a pair of tachyon cannons and the additional storage room for twenty more funnels. It first came into use in 2060.
