Hand Held Weapons
1
x Rheinmetall BR-17 tachyon rifle: After several more years of refinement the tachyon rifle became both easier to
manufacture and maintain as well as cheaper. This lead to the first mass
deployment for the RDF of tachyon weaponry in 2055 with the
RGM-85 Nemo. The
rifle represents the main weapon of the Jegan and while less powerful than
platoon leader models, still packs a good punch. The rifle can fire 60 rounds per minute in full automatic mode at
approximately one shot per second. This weapon fires 320 MJ pulses, with its own dedicated cell and capacitor banks in the
'magazine' with two spare magazines mounted behind the projectile shield
each with a
payload of 18 shots.
or (after 2065)
1 x Rheinmetall BR-22 single-barreled tachyon rifle:

rounds per minute in full automatic mode. This weapon fires 300 MJ pulses, with its own dedicated cell and capacitor banks in the
'magazine' with two spare magazines mounted behind the projectile shield with a
payload of 24 shots.
or
1 x Three Star RU-38 360mm missile launcher: When conducting
heavy assault hit and run raids the Jegan uses this large missile launcher,
a successor to the RU-35. The launcher is designed to use a
new variant of the MPM-23 similar to the old MPM-10D.
The MPM-23C is the same size as the MPM-10D,
but has a longer range and higher top speed. When not in use this weapon
can be placed on a special mount on the back of the unit freeing the hands for
other uses such as wielding the tachyon saber or a projectile shield.
The RU-38 uses an external magazine with seven rounds plus one in the chamber.
The mobile suit can reload the RU-38 in the field using and extra magazine
stored on the projectile shield of the mobile suit holding seven rounds. or 1 x Three Star 180mm electromagnetic rail cannon: When the Jegan needs long range firepower against a variety of targets, the choice is the 180mm rail cannon. This cannon packs quite a punch and is very versatile earning it the moniker '180mm anti-everything cannon'. The cannon fires a 110 kg shell distances of up to 10 km with excellent accuracy thanks to self guided shells. The available ammunition consists of KCP Kinetic Core Penetrating (hull penetration rounds), KPI Kinetic Penetrating Incendiary (plasma incendiary rounds) and MKEP Multiple Kinetic Energy Penetrator (flechette cluster rounds), the latter as anti-mecha formation weapons. The cannon carries seven shells internally in a large magazine. One spare magazine is usually mounted under the projectile shield, however reloading this large and cumbersome weapon takes several times as long as reloading any other type of weapon, usually around twenty to thirty seconds.
Beam Saber
1
x Shinara 0.7 MW Tachyon Beam Saber: These revolutionary
mecha-sized melee weapon were first used on the Gundam mobile suit. The beam
saber only contains enough energy and particles for about 60 seconds of
continuous use. When not in use, the beam sabers are stored on the legs of
the mecha, where they are recharged by the Jegan's reactor. The Jegan can
switch the beam saber on and off while holding it, in order to conserve
power. Once totally depleted it takes 30 minutes for a beam saber to
recharge to full capacity. The Jegan carries one beam saber mounted on its
waist.Missiles

VIII. Armor
The armor on the RGM-89 is a low-mass lunarium tungsten composite plating that is the standard for most Terran mecha. Aside from the good protection provided against projectiles, missiles, and other kinetic weapons, this armor is also resistant to plasma globes (annihilation discs), lasers, and fair against, particle guns too, owing to the fact that the armor can flake off and evaporate in layers under fire from such high-energy weapons, taking much of the weapon's energy and converting it into the latent heat of sublimation in the armor. The armor stops all small arms fire, and has good resistance to all weapons commonly mounted on combat mecha.
The Jegan provides full protection from nuclear, biological, and chemical hazards, using an overpressure cockpit environment activated by radiation and hazardous chemical sensors, or manually when biological warfare conditions are anticipated. The internal consumables supplies can provide atmosphere for three days maximum.
IX. Development
Following the development of both the RGM-85 Nemo and RGM-86 GM III, Anaheim sought to combine the two unique features these suits used, the Nemo's movable frame and the GM III's backpack thruster unit. It was thought that by combining these features, one could produce a mobile suit with amazing agility and speed. A descendant of the GM series of mobile suits , the RGM-89 Jegan was lighter and more maneuverable than any previous model. Although not as well-armed as the previous RGM-86 GM III, the Jegan was an all-around well-performing unit nonetheless.
For weaponry the Jegan kept it quiet simple and basic using most of the standard mobile suit weapons. An optional head mounted autocannons and a new tachyon rifle which was about 50% more powerful than previous designs. These helped keep costs low which was key if the Jegan was to mass produced quickly and cheaply. It also had the ability to use any of the other weapon options such as the rail cannon, missile launcher, and rocket launcher. The Jegan also used a newer model of tachyon saber which was more powerful and was waist mounted for quick deployment. The Jegan also had missiles, which, while not as numerous as on the RGM-86, allowed the Jegan to retain its close combat ability. There was a single three tube launcher located on the right thigh of the mobile suit in addition to the sixteen missiles loaded into the Jegan's shield.
First built in late 2059, the Jegan delivered on its promise of speed and agility thanks to the use of the backpack system and the movable frame. During testing it managed to best most adversaries it faced off against including the Gundam Alex and managed to best the Zeta Gundam on one occasion. With such great ability, the RDF quickly snatched up the design and ordered it into production with the first field units arriving in early 2060.
During the waning months of 2062, Anaheim refined the Jegan and added additional more powerful thrusters giving the mobile suit phenomenal acceleration and agility. Dubbed the RGM-89B Jegan Kai, this mobile suit suffered from shorter range than its predecessor, but had an increased missile payload of 30 missiles when you include the shield launcher. The Jegan Kai was adopted in 2063 just in time for the first battles of 4th Robotech War. During the course of this war the Jegan Kai was produced as fast as possible, but the more powerful engines took longer to manufacture and install and were much harder to maintain placing further strain on the RDF supply lines. However the Jegan Kai remained in service for another two years before it was replaced by the RGM-89R.
Anaheim began looking to take advantage of new tachyon technology to replace the aging GM Cannon II still in use. First rolled out in 2064 in the mist of the 4th Robotech War, the Jegan Cannon delivered on its promise of increased firepower. Utilizing a pair of large tachyon cannons, the Jegan Cannon was able to severely damage most small capital ships and pose a credible threat to larger ones when use en masse. The Jegan Cannon also was used as a medium range artillery unit destroying Marduk ground defenses and mecha. Of course it did suffer from decreased agility, though not much as it was based on the powerful RGM-89B Jegan Kai which had powerful thrusters. To compensate for this the Jegan Cannon added armor at key points across the mobile suit body to increase survivability. The Jegan Cannon served with distinction during the 4th Robotech War assisting in the destruction of many Marduk capital ships and defending positions from Marduk assaults.
The final variants of the RGM-89 were deployed in early 2066. RGM-89R was one of the fastest mobile suits ever produced. Able to accelerate at almost 6Gs it could outrun many of the Marduk mecha and out maneuver them as well. It used numerous small thrusters to gain its amazing agility and speed. These thrusters were cheaper and easier to produce and maintain as opposed to those used in the Jegan Kai making it much more well suited suit to the demands of the 4th Robotech War. The Jegan Custom as it became known replaced the backpack missile launchers with a pair of wrist launchers. These launchers had increased payload versus the ones on the Jegan Kai. The Jegan Custom also was designed to use a new rapid firing tachyon rifle firing at up to 50% faster than any of its predecessors. Although inflicting less damage, it was ideal for use against the swarms of Marduk mecha common to any 4th Robotech War battlefield. The rifle and the Jegan Custom entered service in mid 2066 and were quickly made the standard mobile suit of the day and by the end of 2066 all of the older Jegan types were removed from service.
The full armor concept made its return in the midst of the 4th Robotech War. Faced with large numbers of enemies, a more mobile alternative to the SDR-series destroids was needed. The Full Armor Jegan was developed by both Anaheim and Rheinmetall alongside the RGM-89R. Using the -89R as a base, the add on armor parts dramatically increase survivability and add a powerful weapons suite. Centered around 4 nuclear capable Savior missile launchers and a pair of 6 tube Scimitar missile launchers the Full Armor Jegan was able to inflict heavy damage on enemy fleets and mecha. First deployed with the RGM-89R, the Full Armor Jegan proved deadly against enemy fleets. The downside to this firepower was that the armor system reduced agility and the armor add on packs proved more difficult to manufacture than first believed. Despite the downsides, a large number of GBP-08s were made during and after the 4th Robotech War.
Both the Jegan Custom and Jegan Cannon served throughout the war on all fronts and are scheduled to be retired sometime in the early 2070s.
