Hotohori: The Star

Hotohori is the Emperor of Konan, as well as being a member of the Suzaku Seven. Although calling a constellation "The Star" seems kinda redundant, I'm pretty sure we're losing something in the translation. Hotohori's Suzaku symbol is located on his neck, and it looks like this:

The star is appropriate for Hotohori, after all he is the emperor. Aren't leaders the "stars" of their nations? (Then again, I wouldn't call Bill Clinton the star of our nation. Yuck!) Hotohori is INCREDIBLY vain, but he is not cruel to others because of it. To give you an idea how vain he is, one of his favorite lines is "I'm so beautiful it's scary." When one of his advisors asks why Hotohori ignores the women in his harem, he answers "Because I am more beautiful than they are."

Hotohori's life-changing event is drawn out to include most of his childhood. His father died at an early age, leaving his mother to defend the throne from any that would challenge Hotohori's rule. Unfortunately, she was a commanding woman, and Hotohori was virtually her puppet until her death. Hotohori grew up extremely lonely, and neglected, and this led, in part, to his vanity, as a defense mechanism. Thus, he became a shining star, alone but beautiful and strong.

The "star" that is HotohoriBoshi is represented in the sky by some of the stars that make up Hydra. Hotohori can also fit the ferocious sea snake through his noble strength. He is always proper and polite, but merciless towards those who would take advantage of him. When he loves someone, he loves "not wisely but too well," as Othello said. He attacks love like a beast, attempting to wrestle it to his will, but must always emerge defeated. However, this only makes him stronger and more dear to the heart.

"Now that you have been privileged enough to gaze upon my beautiful visage, you may go on."

Um . . .Ok. Click on Hotohori or here to go to page 13!
