Tenchi Masaki is the center of the whole Tenchiverse.  He is part Juraian and part human.  Since he is part Juraian, he can control the Tenchi sword (or Light Hawk Sword and Light Hawk Wings according to the OAV).  Most of the girls in his life have feelings for him, some it is just friendship, for others it is deep love.  He is also a decendant of the Jurai royal family.

Ryoko is a space pirate, and at first known in the OAV series as a demon.  She has many powers including:  flight, teleportation, phasing, conducting energy into explosive blast or as a staff, healing, and incredable strength.  She is in love with Tenchi, and whenever she can, she trys to seduce him.  Also Ryoko is constantly fighting Ayeka for Tenchi's affection.  She also uses Ryo-ohki as her battle ship and her favorite pass time is drinking saki.  She has a mental link with Ryo-ohki.

Ayeka is the Jurai royal princess.  She has some powers which include force fields and conducting electricity.  She also has the two Juraian royal guards, Azaka and Kamidake, who protect her and Sasami from any harm.  She is usually bringing up bad things about Ryoko in front of Tenchi.  To me Ayeka can be a royal pain at times, while at other times she can be wise and sweet.

Pretty Sammy

Sasami is the little sister of Ayeka.  She loves to cook, treats Ryo-ohki as her pet, and she has some feelings for Tenchi.  In the OAV series, she is part of Tsunami and will grow to be Tsunami.  In Sasami's own series, Pretty Sammy, Sasami can change into the magical girl Pretty Sammy.  She is sort of like Sailor Moon.  She has a magical staff that can do different things and turn into different things like a bow and arrow.

Keione is a first class detective of the Galaxy Police.  Keione has a knowledge of many GP weapons and files.  She knows what she is doing in any situation and if possible, she can solve any case given to her.  The only problem about her life is her partner Mehoshi who usually screws up their missions.  Keione appears only in the tv series and in the Mihoshi special.

Mihoshi is the clutsy partner of Keione.  She sometimes acts like a child and does not have a clue as to what is going on.  Everyonce in a while she will act grown up and stick up for herself.  She also looks up to Keinone as a role model and for inspiration.  In the OAV series though, she is not a big dumb clutz.  She acts a little more mature, but still can't catch on to what is going on around her; also she has what I call dumb luck.

Washu is known as the "greatest scientific genius in the universe" and also by some "the evil mad scientist Washu."  She can create anything, most of the time weapons of mass destruction, and she has a huge subspace laboratory.  In the OAV series, Washu had a son but he was taken away from her.  She was so upset with losing her son that she transformed her body into that of a 12 year old since she felt that grown ups were evil.  Later, from using her DNA and the power of the Mass, she created Ryoko who was like her daughter.  But the space pirate, and former student to Washu, Kakato took Ryoko and Ryo-ohki, whom she also created, and imprisoned Washu for hundreds of years.

Nobuyuki is the father of Tenchi and is the only full human in the gang.  As a teenager, he was shy around girls and loved to do architectual designs.  As an adult, his job is an architect and he is no longer shy around women.  His womaninzing may be the result of the grief for the loss of his wife.  He has a perverted mind and is always putting the moves on the girls who stay with Tenchi.

Ryo-ohki is a cabbit (cat/rabbit).  She loves carrots and is treated as a pet by Sasami and as a battleship by Ryoko.  Ryo-ohki can transform into a battleship and in the OAV series, she combined with an energy source called the Mass and became into a part cabbit, part human.

Young Yosho

Grandpa/ older Yosho

Yosho is the nobelest Juraian swordsman and is the grandfather of Tenchi.  He could of been the ruler of Jurai but events changed his mind and he came to Earth to escape Jurai's problems.  He constantly trains Tenchi to be a good swordsman just like him.  He also knows how to stay calm in any situation.  Don't let his old age fool you, he can still go into any battle, and come out alive.
