Dear
Sirs and Madams:
For the
past 13 years, IFPI Taiwan has long been contributed to anti-piracy
activities in order to protect copyright owners of sound recordings
and secure the Taiwan record industry against piracies. However,
during the recent two years, the market share of piracies has
remarkably jumped up to more than thirty-five percent (35%) of
Taiwan market. And this situation is becoming worse
Since
anti-piracy is IFPI Taiwan’s
main object, and given the above circumstances, the statistics of
the Chart has not been able to tell the real market situation.
Therefore, it is painful to determine to discontinue the IFPI Taiwan
Chart temporarily in order for IFPI’s
concentrating in anti-piracy campaigns. The Chart shall be resumed
as soon as the piracy has been taken down and controlled in the
future.
Given
the above mentioned, it is regretful to announce herewith that the
IFPI Taiwan Chart will be paused starting from 1 September 1999. The
last Chart will be published on 26 August 1999 (week 32).
We are
sorry for any inconvenient arising thereof.
