She is the empress of China at this time. Remember what I said about the empress hating practically everyone in the palace? I was right. This empress is NOT a happy lady. She is jealous of all the other wives that the emperor has and she also hates all the sons that the emperor has (except her own). Her biggest dream is to see her son, as the next emperor. Which will be a pretty long shot considering that the empress's son is the youngest and he is not the favorite of the son. (The favorite son is Yong Qi, remember?) So, basically she hates anyone that she thinks is or will be a threat to her. She is actually the second empress of the emperor. The first empress died not long after she became the empress, so this one was titled. I think she is seriously disturbed. I think that if she can be a little opened about the emperor's other wives, she will be much happier. I also think that being the empress that she is titled, she should learn to like other wives. (I know the king is a big pervert and everything, but since he is the emperor, you can't really do anything about.) I say make the best of it.

Some characteristics of the empress:

• She is very serious (meaning she can't crack a joke if her life depended on it.)
• She can be very cruel to the people that she does not like. (Both physically and emotionally. We see an example of both in the book and in the TV show).
• She really loves her son, even though she is cold to everyone else.
