Nova

Okay, here's what you need to know...Richard Rider was an ordinary person until fate (and a Xandarian power beam) smashed into him--transforming him into "Nova, The Human Rocket!" His powers (at the time), were the gift of superspeed flight, and super-strength. This all happened in the late 70's, which makes Rich an older, more experienced hero. To make a long story short (well, it's still kinda long), Rich gave up his powers to return to Earth, a guy named Night Thrasher dropped him off a building, his powers kicked back in, he fought alongside his new teammates, The New Warriors. A psycho Supernova bad guy came to Earth and Rich gave up his powers (AGAIN) to save the Earth...a few carefully placed words later, Rich is bestowed with all the power of the former planet he was sworn to protect. He goes a little nuts, gets better, restores the planet he was sworn to protect, and everything is peachy-keen. Too bad the UNGRATEFUL planet he newly restored felt he could no longer be Nova...SOOOOO, for a THIRD TIME, Nova gave up his powers to, ironically, the reformed psycho who had just recently stole them away. Well, blah, blah, blah, and the psycho with Nova's powers dies protecting Earth, and Nova receives his coveted powers back! Sheesh! Well, with the cancellation of the New Warriors, Nova has been keeping a low profile-UNTIL NOW! That's right, the rumors are true! Erik Larson is scheduled to take on a NEW ongoing Nova series to begin March 1999! As if the news wasn't enough, we even have a preview of the first cover! Check out the full color wraparound cover at the bottom of the page!** Oh yeah...I almost forgot. He's got it bad for everone's favorite Atlantian, Namorita.

Above is an example of their usual flirting, filled with sarcasm. Their constant picking with eachother and sexual tension finally came to a steamy climax in New Warriors issue #39. Although Rich was involved with civilian, Laura Dunham, Nita soon became the focus of his attention. Even after Nita went freaky on him, and she went blue, they still stuck together (as seen below).

Their long-awaited hook-up left fans clammouring for more. Apparently, plans were made to break up Rich and Nita, but with the news of the series being cancelled, Evan and crew decided to give these lovebirds another chance! Anyway, on with the Nova pictures...
