The plot of Ranma 1/2 is like the title. A Japanese teenager named Soatome Ranma, was cursed when training with his father in China. He fell into the cursed spring of the drowned girl, so now when he gets splashed with cold water he turns into a girl, but when splashed with warm water he turns back. There are many other cursed characters in this crazy, yet great anime!

Cast

Soatome Ranma:

Ranma and his father are dedicated to the martial arts. One day they decided to go on a training mission in China. While in China the two went to the cursed pools of Jusenkyo. Ranma and his father began to spar on the poles, all the while the guide is trying to get thier attention. Ranma gets knocked off his pole by Panada Genma and falls into the pool of the drowned girl. So now when Ranma is splashed with cold water he becomes a she, and when splashed with hot water he turns back. This curse is one of his minor problems. His father would often engage him to many girls and then steal the dowery. In the series we know about 3 fiancees, (maybe more, i've lost count)Akane, Shampoo, and Ukyou. Ranma and his father live with the Tendo family in Nermia, Japan. In this town men flying to the moon from a swift kick is a common practice.

Soatome Genma:

Ranma's father, who is very strict on matters of martial arts, but very slow when it comes to his son. Tendo Soun, a long time friend and Genma arrange the engagement between Ranma and Soun's youngest daughter Akane. Genma is also cursed, when splashed with cold water he turns into a giant panda.

Tendo Akane:

Tendo Akane is one of Ranma's financees. She is the youngest daughter of Tendo Soun. Akane wasn't to thrilled with being engaged to Ranma. She is decicated to studying martial arts, and carrying on her fathers dojo, with good reason, because every morning she used to have to fight her way to the door of the school. She had to do this because of Tatewaki Kuno, who gave a speech at the Furinkan High School speech contest saying that if anyone could beat Akane in cobat could date her. But eventually the guys gave up after they acknowledged the engagement between her and Ranma. She has a pet pig named P-chan (who is really a cursed Ryouga). One of her many talents is that she can pull a mallet of chi out of know where and hit Ranma over the head.

Tendo Soun:

Tendo Soun is the father of three daughters Kasumi, Nabiki, and Akane. He is Genma Soatome's bestfriend, and is partly responsable for Ranma and Akane's engagement.

Tendo Nabiki:

Nabiki is the second daughter of Soun. She is very cunning and knows how to make an extra buck. She is boy crazy and believes the world revolves around boys. She likes to sell pictures of her sister Akane and Ranma in boy/girl form to classmates. Kuno is one of her best sources of income.

Tendo Kasumi:

Kasumi is the oldest daughter of Soun. She likes cooking and cleaning for her family an her two house guests. She is practically a mother to her two younger sisters. She is a very kind and lovimg person, who can find good in anything.

Shampoo:

Shampoo is one of Ranma's financees. She became engaged to Ranma, because while Ranma and his father were travelling in their cursed forms, they came upon an Amazon village. There was a tournament going on, Ranma (she) and Genma (panda) sat down and started to eat the food at the table. Finally Shampoo infromed the two martial artists that the food was her prize, and she demanded a fight. Ranma beat Shampoo and as part of Amazon law she has to kill any outside woman who beats her in kombat. So when Ranma left she followed. When she found out that Ranma was really a boy, as part of another Amazon law, any man that beat an Amazon woman was engaged to her. So Shampoo decided instead of killing Ranma, she would marry him. Shampoo's cursed form is a cat, much to Ranma's dislike.

Mousse:

Mousse is in love with Shampoo and wants to marry her but two things stand in his way; 1. Ranma and 2. He can't beat Shampoo in combat. In his cursed form he turns into a duck. Mousse can also hide anything in his clothing, without detection.

Colonge:

Colonge is Shampoo's great-grandmother. She is very powerful, and almost no one can beat her. She, Shampoo, and Mousse run the Nekkoken, a restaurant in Nermia.

Kuonji Ukyou:

Ukyou is a long time friend of Ranma. They were engaged to eachother when they were six. But Genma had other plans and took Ukyou's dowery, which was a cart. Her father then disowned her and forced her to find Ranma and make him pay for what he did. She then learned how to fight with spatulas and went after Ranma for revenge, but instead fell in love with him. Ukyou makes a great oknomiyaki, and she opened up her own restaurant.

Hibiki Ryouga:

Ryouga and Ranma have been enemies since childhood when they went to an all boys school. They would fight over the last of the curry bread. Ranma would always get it. Finally Ryouga challenged Ranma to fight, but since Ryouga has a really bad sense of directon he was no where near the fight. When Ranma left to train, Ryouga "tried" to follow Ranma and his father attacking Ranma along the way. Ranma accidently knocked Ryouga into the Heiturnnichuan or the spring of the drowned pig.

Kuno Tatewaki:

Tatewaki Kuno, is very clueless. When Ranma turned into a girl, Kuno couldn't figure out that the were the same person. Instead he calls she Ranma his "pig-tailed goddess." He is a pretty good martial artist, he always carries his bokken around with him. He hates Ranma because he is engaged to Akane and he thinks that Ranma is a sorceror that is keeping his "beloved pig-tailed goddess," trapped.

Kuno Kodachi:

Kodachi called "The Black Rose" is madly in love with boy type Ranma, ever since she tried to elimnate Akane from the Martial Rythmic Gymnastics Match between Kodachi's school and Furinkan High.

Shiratori Azusa:

Azusa is part of the Kolkhoz High School Martial Skating, her partner is Shanzenin Mikado. They met Ranma and Akane when they were ice skating. P-chan got trapped under the ice, and before Akane could retrieve him, Azusa found him and renamed him Charlotte. Akane was upset so Ranma told her that Azusa had P-chan. Mikado took P-chan from Azusa and gave it back to Akane. In return he wanted a kiss.

Shanzenin Mikado:

Mikado thinks that he is gods gift to women and tries to kiss every girl he sees, even "half girls." On one such occasion he desided to kiss Ranma-chan after catching her. Ranma who quickly changed back, challenged Mikado to a fight, and won. Akane, Azusa, and Ranma desided to doodle all over Mikado's unconcious form. When he woke up he swore he would pay Ranma back humiliating him.
