How on Earth did I ever
get such an idea?
To be truthful, I didn't have to look very far. It was there, right there in the manga. I insist on this point: Watsuki sensei is (consciously or not) sending us a message about these two! You just have to fish it out of the plot! You don't believe me? Take a look at my documented evidence below! |

This half of a panel is
at the source of it all. Enishi has managed to injure Kenshin, and a very
concerned Kaoru calls out to the latter, in what I can only imagine to
be a tear-filled cry. Enishi's reaction is immediate: his furious gaze
locks itself on hers... and this is how they meet. What must have been
going through his mind during that fraction of a second? Jealousy is at
the top of the list of course. Battousai has friends who care and worry
about him; all the people that surround Enishi either have their interests
at stake, or have been bribed -or coerced. This particular woman,
Kamiya Kaoru, cares about Battousai, and___ It's easy to build up a whole
theory from there, ne?

2) This
girl is no twit brain! Plus she's brave, she'll stand up to him to the
bitter end (or is it the end?!?)
I'm sure Kaoru's words and
defiant attitude have Enishi wondering. And maybe secretly admiring her,
for how many people would keep their cool and confront him, fully knowing
what he's done, and what he is about to do to them?

He can't kill her! No matter what he thinks, he won't kill her! And she knows it. Come to think of it, killing her was never part of the plan, was it? Or he wouldn't have gone through all the trouble of making a lifelike (or deathlike?) doll of her, kidnapping her, keeping her alone on this deserted island with him... We're talking major suppressed desires here ^^; (that's me talking again). |
Yeah, so the
psycho abducts her, gives her a clean bathrobe to wear, delicately deposits
her on a clean, fresh bed in a nice, spacious room. And look, he's even
provided her with slippers. (Walt Disney's "Beauty & the Beast"
comes to mind, with a few differences of course, the mansion isn't really
enchanted, Enishi doesn't exactly look repulsive, there's no actual spell
to break...But still, imagine Gein dancing around Kaoru, singing "Be our
guest, be our guest~~". A scary thought to entertain...)
But if all psychos were like that, I think lots of women would actually enjoy being abducted. Abduction itself would take on a whole new meaning. For now however, the only thing that my minds conjures up when I hear "psycho" and "abduction" is the movie Silence of the Lambs: you club the girl over the head, rip her clothes off and throw her in a dirty hole in your basement without food or water, while you're in the other room making weird sex videos starring yourself. So the question is: Enishi, where did you ever learn your craft? Other problematic issue: who exactly put Kaoru in the said bathrobe? Gein maybe? Riiiiight. |

A saying that's valid under
any circumstances, and Kaoru follows it to the letter. Enishi cannot help
being a little thrown off, if not intrigued. He also makes a connection
between Kaoru and his sister, which is a positive thing for Kaoru. Too
bad the effect is spoiled by that terrible tasting food ^^; (I'm surprised
Enishi isn't thinking that she's trying to poison him) And Kaoru, don't
give us that talk about trying to use his weakness. You're not just a big
ol' softie, you also happen to have a soft spot for him. Honestly, would
you even bother cooking for this guy if you really thought him to be this
horrible, vile and worthless individual? Why on Earth would you worry about
your kidnapper's health and eating habits?
