It is often called the 'Kyoto' of the north and the cultural capital of the Tohoku. It is a castle town filled with temples, shrines, and beautiful gardens. | |
| Fortunately, unlike Aomori City to the north, Hirosaki was spared from firebombing by allied bombers, so most of Hirosaki's traditional buildings were spared, like the Gojunoto (five storied pagoda). That was built to honor samurai who died in battle. | ![]() |

With an endless supply of shops and markets selling everything from traditional Japanese wares, to the ever popular raw octopus. Hirosaki really is the place to be. |
